Something that shocked me a lot was to find out that even Steven Seagal's claim to be "the first Westener to open an Aikido dojo in Japan" was only a half-thruth, because he co-founded the dojo with his first wife... in a building own by his mother-in-law... and Seagal's wife was among the last students to be trained by the founder of Aikido so he was pretty much leeching on his wife's accomplishments. And is funny how I found out that, because I was watching the Gamera movies from the 90s one day and was like "that actress is cute, I wonder what other movies she did" so I open Wikipedia and read "Ayako Fujitani is an actress and writer blablabla *she's the daughter of Steven Seagal... WHAT?!!!"* and I felt into the rabbithole

His son with the first wife is a model/actor in Japan. his name is kentaro seagal. His daughter with the first wife is Ayako Fujitani, an actress/writer. Also, the marriage with the first wife made him kind of owner of Dojo that belonged to his wife's family. This is the part where some misinformation spread around internet saying he's the first foreigner who owns a dojo in Japan.

Ok, *true story*, everyone: I'm from a very small, God forgotten town situated on an island in the far east of Russia. Nobody, not even russian celebrities or politicians, have ever visited my hometown in its history. BUT one day we got news that Steven Seagul would bless us with a visit to MY school of all places, because we had finally finished building a gym class (my school never had a gym prior to that). So the day comes. The whole town basically surrounds my school. He arrives in a blacked out BMW (mind you, we have terrible roads), comes to the newly built gym, watches a small welcome performance for 10 minutes, cuts the ribbon, shakes the school's principal's hand and drives away.... We still don't know what that was for

Okay, but what’s wild about the tank story is that the sheriff at that time in Arizona was Joe Arpaio. Infamous ‘I hate people darker than a powered donut’ Joe Arpaio. Joe Arpaio who ran a crusade against undocumented people unilaterally ruining thousands of lives, who had prison conditions so abysmal they could have sparked human rights violations, who backed Trump in the election, and very proudly cheered people who called him the biggest racist. That Joe Arpaio, the guy who was literally such a doo doo human that he had to be pardoned by none other than the head Cheeto himself, Trump. Just thought I’d throw that one out there

I'm old enough to remember when Seagal was in his heyday. He wasn't a sex symbol except for a few odd people (i guess). If you weren't into martial arts films you probably wouldn't have known who he was. My brother did kung fu so I watched all of them, Bruce Lee, Jean Claude Van Damme etc but i always refused to watch Seagal. Even as an 8yo I knew he was crap. Lol.
@morri2542 жыл бұрын
same.. i remember under seige and above the law being pretty good, pretty on brand for late 80s early 90s action. i liked martial arts movies! also don't remember him being much of a sex symbol, more like guys wanting to be him but even then, he was no van damn. i think i noticed the wheels falling off when he was in some movie and he made a big show of going into a chinese medicine shop and its like 'oh.. he's really leaning into that eastern mysticism'... good for him.. i guess.... then i saw On Deadly Ground and its like ffs a vision quest.. teenage me was getting pretty offended at this point (as i was prone to do at that age). i wasn't an avid fan so i wasn't watching these movie on release or anything but i came across the stupid vampire movie and did a full body cringe. at that point jenny mccarthy had tried to out him for his casting couch antics. she didn't get a lot of traction at the time, but she did create a website where you could make a little cartoon jenny fart on stevens head! but i had actively avoided his content until that late night vampire farce.. i showed my bf a scene from under seige thinking, oh i will try to explain he used to be a pretty entertaining fighter.. seriously misremembered that entire fight. he wasn't good.. and knowing now what i know about martial arts, hitting your stunt ppl sounds more like lack of control. you can try to act like you have a good reason for punching ppl getting paid a lot less than you, but it mostly sounds like you just don't know what you're doing

Van Damme being done with his s**t told him to come outside so he could prove it to everyone, Seagal said that he would, but his ride was here and he couldn't have them waiting and left the party 🤣🤣🤣
