I immediately hated the main character and usually don't like found footage flicks but it was much better than I expected. Ultimately I'm a creature feature guy, and this feature had a creature so it worked enough for me. I also like that the lead is a musician in real life, playing a fictional version of herself. I could see myself watching it again but only 2/5 💀's for me. Oh and stretch is hot, like most long haired brown guys ✊🏽

If they had just killed off Annie at the end it would've justified her character being so unbearably annoying because I was honestly rooting for her to get it thru the film. That would've been a satisfying payoff.

What gets me about the director purposefully making the film as confusing/annoying as possible is that he’s making the assumption that enough people will seek out those emotions to make the film profitable. As though we don’t have enough to frustrate us in the world anyway, as though we would rather complain about a fictional horrible person rather than have the catharsis of $hitting on the actual horrible people we have to deal with day to day. It’s like he heard a vague description of the Always Sunny characters and thought he could make a character so hate-able that everyone would be inexplicably drawn in to watch that character over and over again. I guess he missed the part where Always Sunny is funny? And also bad things consistently happen to the characters in that show as a result of the horrible things they do, so there’s some element of catharsis there? Guess he didn’t get that memo 🤷🏻😂

I think there is also a difference between characters that make you think "Wow I couldn't be friends with them in real life" and characters that you just want off screen.
@krismarshall3803
@krismarshall3803 2 жыл бұрын
Like the main character toe-to-toe acts like my friends dad and his friends (granted, they're all in their 60s) and minus the techno/live-stream stuff he does say A LOT of this over the top alt-right stuff and will randomly get offended with superiority and just like to just start political shit at the drop of the hat.......... why the fuck would I want to watch a person who acts like that for over an hour....and survive XD? Legit though.....I think a chunk of those good reviews are from people that also are super conservative that thought "Wow, a person I can relate to and thinks everything I do.....and they survive!?"
@elleofhearts8471
@elleofhearts8471 2 жыл бұрын
I dont want to be negative, but I think it worth saying. I think you're underestimating how many people really would rather complain about fictional charectors rather than real people. Any rabid fandom not revolving around a celebrity will disappoint your lowballing in that regard. The difference between those fandoms and this movie tho,is that those fandoms have emotionally and sometimes intellectually compelling charectors to talk about and this movie doesn't. the director fundamentally misunderstood what keeps fans of fictional works talking and a misguided attempt at chasing clout.

The fact that Annie is just playing herself, and that her twitter is basically this movie's "script" makes me think that the director didn't really give her any kind of actual script, just let her know what stunts she'd be doing and then she was "authentically herself". Yikes. Big yikes.

*busts out latent knowledge from growing up in a super religious household* So the book of Isaiah is essentially the book of prophecies from the prophet…Isaiah lol. The 49th chapter is told from the point of view of the Messiah, aka Jesus (as later revealed within the New Testament), and tells the tale of him being called to lead the people of Israel before he was even born. The second verse speaks specifically about his words having power and effect (like a sword would for others), and how he is hidden and ready to be used by God at the right time. There might be a couple of things here where Dashcam is trying to be a commentary on words and power (judging by how awful Annie is that is reflected a lot in her words and how she has actual REACH with her live-streaming with those words) or even the second part referencing the hidden nature of whatever is possessing Angela and how it’ll emerge at the “right time”. But honestly, the fact that this is a book of prophecy (and this piece is specifically speaking about an unborn messiah) probably leans towards this being a reference to the cult in the movie and they are all waiting on the prophesied being (whatever is in Angela, which could be considered a being in a “womb”) to come forth. Or it’s a random Bible verse they threw in to make my head hurt 😁

See I watch a lot of horror movie youtubers and the general consensus from other horror lovers is that annoying and unfun asshole side characters are made that way so it's more satisfying to see them get ridiculously killed off in the most camp fashion. This movie not only doesn't do that so it makes us all pissed at the end when she doesn't die, but also she's the main character which makes it even WORSE

i love that despite absolutely none of the movie making any sense i paused at "how did a random middle aged woman in/around london get access to a full on shotgun" like i know there's still hunting and stuff in england and you can also get a gun illegally for a ton of money but. the likelihood of a random mom in london who's stressed looking for her daughter that's been missing for 2 weeks getting a shotgun about it feels really low. that said, i can't imagine that attention being paid to really any detail and being chased by a stranger who has a shotgun is a pretty common thing in horror movies set in the US so. i'm not shocked that they didn't focus on this character that's just used as an NPC body for an action scene at the end of the day. it is kinda fun to take all the details that were sort of a plot in this and make it a movie about the missing girl's mom chasing down this insane american livestreamer who has her ghost demon aging daughter in her car. god there is too much shit going on with the demon woman like information overload is accurate in the worst way. pick one to two scary things happening with her and stick with them ffs

Yes I decided to watch this movie. I hate to say this but I think I get it, as to what this movies whole angle: it's "satire"(question mark?), of social media generation. The people in their 30s behaving like their still teenagers, the anti-maskers, the Karen's, the Trumpers, Annie is an archetype of just The Worst. I'm pretty sure the mentality is "its easy to follow a final girl who's the Good Girl, but are you able to do the same for someone who is absolutely DESPICABLE?" Its very much Dark Comedy. What made it easier to take in is pretending I'm watching Gabbie Hanna🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 It was definitely a comedy, but dressed up as a horror movie.
