When you say the movie is making him out as a mastermind but he's just Bob, I think that is probably a super accurate representation of most serial killers. They just do dumb shit and no one notices and does crap to stop them. Also can just be a reflection on society that most people are invisible and people don't report weird crap so nothing stops the dumb Bobs

I swear this premise, the taxi driver killing women and abducting the son, was an episode of Law & Order: Criminal Intent when Vincent D’Onofrio was starring on the show. I'm commenting before i finish watching: From the sounds of this it feels like this is loosely based off of the Steven Stayner kidnapping. The guy who kidnapped and assaulted him told him his parents sold him to him and he was raised as his son for a bit. He eventually escaped when the kidnapper found another boy and Steven didn't want that boy suffering the same fate. Steven's brother actually ended up being a serial killer. So it feels like it took from both of their lives.

hella late on this, but i saw this movie recently and there actually were a few hints that his father and bob were brothers; at the beginning his dad says “in one ear, out the window.” and granted, that’s not something that stands out a ton but it stood out to me because it’s not the actual phrase, the typical phrase is “in one ear, out the other”, and bob says THAT EXACT PHRASE to rabbit later in the movie. and the flashbacks showed that bob had a little brother that presumably had no resolution. i actually was able to call that rabbit was bob’s nephew from that line alone, so i’m kinda surprised that came out of left field for you.

Just going on these descriptions, feels like Bob (Vincent D'onofrio of Law & Order/The Cell/etc fame) is inspired by if THE Bob (Robert DeNiro) tried to play a campy psycho murderer (but not one with DID whose daughter is Dakota Fanning). ...also D'onofrio has done better threatening camp. I mean his possesing roach alien in Men in Black is my nightmare assumptions of rando winos on street corners.

i think one word of advice is to probably do a quick rundown of the sequence of events of the movie, or add clips on what you're referencing. maybe im a dumbass and missed it but i feel we didn't even get a proper plot summary this podcast. maybe its the type of experience where i should watch the movie first to relate to the conversation, but i find it is hard to keep up with the content otherwise. i would describe it as hanging with 2 friends who are both interested in something and i awkwardly stand on the side trying to piece stuff together.

I think it would have been a cooler end if the girl killed him instead of him letting her live. Like she was another protege of Bob the whole time, he was grooming them both but the final test was one of them killing each other. Nix the whole uncle thing. Too obvious?
