It's the FINALE of In Defense Of, Season 1! Judge KennieJD is unraveling the case of VANILLA SKY, a 2001 psychological thriller starring Tom Cruise and based off a 1997 Spanish film entitled Open Your Eyes (Abre los Ojos). Can Vanilla Sky decide what kind of movie it is? Can Judge KennieJD decide whether or not she likes it? Should Tom Cruise stop acting in dramas? The answers to those questions and MORE are right around the corner (or maybe 150 years away) on the season finale of In Defense Of!
This show is sponsored by Jarritos, buy yours today: jarritos.com/
This is In Defense Of! Step into the courtroom of the Honorable Judge KennieJD, where she presents the cases of poorly-rated flicks and box-office bombs to determine whether or not they are truly guilty of the sentencing they received! Episodes release Thursdays at 2PM EST.

There is an Spanish movie called "3 metros sobre el cielo". Is the worst movie I've ever seen! I watched it with some of my college friends. The vast majority of my girl friends loved it. I will never understand why they liked so much this movie. So now I need judge Kennie to see it and solve this case.

My one, traumatic memory of this movie is seeing it with my dad in theaters when I was 15 and the part where Cameron Diaz’s character flips out and is like “YOU F--ED ME FOUR TIMES! There’s Jerry Maguire, A Few Good Men, Eyes Wide Shut, Magnolia, Risky Business, Rain Men. There are definitely some non action movies with Tom Cruise that are at least solid. He’s rarely the standout element of those movies though. And he needs some pretty solid direction and to be pretty well cast.

It’s a passable movie. For me it’s not really clever enough, romantic enough, entertaining enough, involving enough. It’s just decent, well-acted entertainment, like many of those Miramax movies that got a bunch of Oscar nods in the late 90s and early 2000s.

That film is food porn for chocolate lovers 🤤. I love the side characters and side plots of Chocolat more than the main couple. I like the MC(Julliet Binoche), but didn't care about her romance with Johnny Depp's character. I hope I can find deleted scenes that spend more time on the other characters. On a funny side note, Julliet Binoche's character is half-indigenous South American in the film and in the novel, she's a witch.

This movie has some interesting moments, and most of the best moments are pulled directly from the original. Cameron Crowe is just too sentimental and not a visual enough filmmaker to really pull something like this off. Cruise was a miscast. This was also Penelope Cruz’s first English role, and you can tell she had yet to get comfortable with the language. The movie is an intriguing failure IMO. Mulholland Drive, Memento and Donnie Darko all came out in the same year as Vanilla Sky. Each was purposely confusing and surreal. And each of those were way more artistically successful to me than than this. Mulholland Drive in particular I feel is a masterpiece.

This was fun! I liked this series, I always love watching Kennie talk about movies, but it's interesting that we don't necessarily know if the movie is good or bad until the end. I'm surprised that it's already been 1 season or 13 episodes, I mean, honestly speaking I'm surprised that I've watched nearly all Bad movies and a Beat episodes (other than twilight, at the time I was very much in my twilight Renaissance so I refused to hear anything other than praises, and I know Kennie was about to DRAGGGGGG them) but I'm always surprised when I see the playlist and there's like, over a month's worth of videos. I really liked this though, watched every episode, can't wait for season 2!

I remember when this movie came and a lot of people loved it. You have to remember when this came out, a lot people had just recovered from freaking out about the Y2K apocalypse. The internet 2.0 was just coming into play. So perception of reality and the possibility of Ai as an alternative way to exist was being seen as a possibility of the future. I remember discussing it in an English class. Ultimately my take away from it was we paint our perception of the world which in turn paints our reality. Also that our perception can influence our choices and our choices have consequences that alter our perception. The last thing was that life’s about the journey aka “the little things “ and your little things(only you know what these are) is what makes you happy. Anyways came across this video after watching vanilla sky and thought I throw my $.02 in.

I just saw a video about “Basmati Blues” and it looks terrible. 😂 I’d love to hear your thoughts on it.

I admit I skipped this back in the day. I think it came out around Eyes Wide Shut anyway, another cruise movie.

I would love a followup on thos movie especially comparing it to the original, because I remember watching it as a kid and not understanding any of it, and always wanted to revisit it to understand what the f*** they were trying to do lol

Not sure what you mean, because she did compare it to the original?

I saw this movie in the theater… I think I’ve seen it once or twice since then… I still remember nothing from or about this movie. I still have no strong feelings, positive or negative, about this movie. Makes me question if I really saw the movie at all…🤔

Bro I saw an AMV ft THIS MOVIE n I had 0 clue what it was. It was for that "what if God was one of us" song n I had no idea what the movie was n still it didn't click till you showed him with the mask thing. My only memory of that video is girl pulling off pieces of the mask n then a smash cut to a car accident with no more music. I still don't know why anyone made that
