I’ve worked for KG for 37 years and it’s called circular breathing…. which is when you can temporarily hold air in your cheeks and continue blowing while you catch another breath through your nose and this seamless continue the note or series of notes and runs….a very rare talent that he has mastered to the pint of holding the Guinness Book world record of the longest sustained note at 45mins47secs…the real hard part is doing this while maintaining correct pitch…maybe 5 or less sax players have accomplished circular breathing but non to the degree he has…anyway, that how it’s done…

They are very good musicians for sure, impeccable time between the bass and drums as well. When Vail isn’t on the road playing bass for Kenny, I’m blessed with having him play bass in my jazz trio, and it’s been amazing to work with him on every gig! He has amazing time and feel, so natural and yet so in the pocket exactly on beat without fail. Even the best drummers up their game when Vail is on the bandstand. He’s an easily one of the top 10 touring bassists in the world. And such an amazing human, wonderful nice guy and so giving. Love him and Denise and their cats! 🙏🏽😊❤️ - Ed B
