Guy Lombardo's sister first heard Kenny Gardner sing on the radio and she mentioned to her brother Guy that she thought Gardner would make an excellent band singer for Guy. Guy hired him and Guy's sister married him! Thanks for the upload.

Thank you for putting this on. I had not heard this nor ''Dangerous Dan McGrew'' for more than three decades where they were both played on record over a loud speaker at an outdoor ice skating rink outside of East Liverpool , Ohio called The Casting Club. Had last heard them both for the last time March of 1966, along with Auld Lang Syne. Sure brings back good memories.

This clip came from Guy Lombardo's filmed syndicated tv series, produced during 1954-56. "Frankie & Johnny" was the b-side to the 1947 Lombardo recording, "I'm My Own Grandpa".

Pretty much the perfect singer for the Lombardo orchestra. Guy once found out that Gardner was taking voice lessons and told him to stop, it would louse up the orchestra's timing.

Is it true that Guy told Kenny to give up singing lessons because they were ruining his voice?
