Ken Stabler, and the then Oakland Raiders, provided many exciting moments in the '70s at a time when NFL football had few superstar QBs throwing the ball with accuracy. With Stabler leading the Raiders, the team was always capable of changing the script and win games that seemed lost. RIP, Snake.

No their was a script they stuck to it ! Absolutely obvious as hell now not so much then. It's real until it isn't. My 76 Broncos threw that game or st least Craig Morton did. A 10 year old who absolutely knew the game and could tell when people stopped trying during special game changing plays. Still was all in until the broncos lost to Seatle.

I was a Raider fan back in the day. I grew up in Atlanta but I couldn't wait to watch Kenny play. He threw one of the most beautiful spirals, I have ever seen, the ball seemed to float in the air. I read his book, it was very interesting . He could be up all night and play the next day. I hated to see him play after leaving Oakland but he still had it. He was an amazing, magical player, to me the best of all time. R.I.P SNAKE!!

I hung out with Snake for about 15 minutes at Ricky’s in San Leandro right after his patch things up meeting with Al Davis in 2009. I was an assistant coach with the Raiders at the time. We talked about the team and his conversation with Al Davis. As a fanatical Raiders fan since birth, naturally Stabler was my hero growing up so it was a great honor and a dream come true to be able to meet and spend time with him in person. He was the coolest Raider that I ever met and I have been fortunate enough to meet 100s of former players from the 60’s on up to the players that I was fortunate to coach. Stabler was exactly the person that you would envision him to be. He was very humble, polite, and kind to everyone and yes. He was drinking Johnny Walker Red and chain smoking cigarettes.

You keep talking about his off field antics but in the 70’s that was pretty much the whole team if not the league itself. The fact of the matter is Stabler could ball , hungover, injured or seconds to go on the clock there was nobody as qualified as he to get the job done. With how many times victory was snatched away by Bradshaw and the Steelers (look at his off field antics as well ) the Raiders were still the team to beat in the 70’s ! Just Win Baby ! @@billallen8998 They would have beaten Denver if it weren't for that BS call on the Lyttle fumble! Tatum drilled him at the one, knocked the ball out of his hands, and Big Ole Mike McCoy was headed toward the opposite endzone. Assuming they make the extra point, that was a fourteen-point switch. A Raiders/Cowboys Super Bowl with Roger "The Dodger" against Snake could have been one for the ages, unlike Dallas putting The Broncos away with very little fight.

As a young boy, my dad & I attended Oakland Coliseum home games as season ticket holders from 1968-1981. I witnessed Snake Stabler prove to be the most exciting & the finest QB in Raiders history! His countless Q4 come from behind victories consistently electrified the Oakland home field fans & resulted in roaring cheers + absolutely thunderous foot stomping that truly sounded & felt like large earthquakes under the stadium ! I will never forget how & why legendary announcer Bill King ecstatically referred to the 1970s era Oakland Coliseum as the House of Thrills, largely owing to Snake Stabler’s spectacular QB performances. Ken absolutely deserved to be in the NFL Hall of Fame many years earlier. May Kenny rest in peace in the presence of our Lord Jesus, I pray.🛐

I've alway admired the 1970's Oakland Raiders. When a team played at Oakland they didn't have injures, they had casualties. The Raiders had a feared defence and a charging offences line that wore out many other defences that many team folded under. They were not my favorite team, but I always watched them when they were broadcasted.

Great video showing the positive impact Ken had on the NFL and Alabama. Truly a very gifted athlete and would have done well playing any of the three that he chose. I am from L.A., but was a Raider fan when they were in Oakland before L.A. . I believe Al Davis is the reason that Stabler never got inducted into the Hall of Fame until after he died. Al Davis was a hateful, and spiteful man and got worse with age. He tried to ruin Marcus Allen's career by benching him for a full season because Marcus dated Davis's daughter which Al Davis went crazy over. To make things worse, or better, depends on how you look at it, Marcus Allen still broke rushing records and other stats records even with being benched for a full season. That pissed Al Davis off even more. So I believe Davis, who had a lot of pull in the league made sure Stabler didnt get Hall of Fame while he was alive

The reason he was blacklisted from the Hall of Fame is that he told the truth in his 1985 book. I believe it hurt some people close to him and the sports press took it personal and forever held a grudge and were never going to let him in the Hall of Fame while he was alive. He was a great person who came from a humble beginnings and made a name for himself. Many of the press people who looked down on him passed judgement on a life they could not understand.

My Dad insisted it was because he had been caught gambling.(Not on Raiders)! Part of the plea deal he agreed to was no induction to the hall while he was alive.I never found out if this was true but it seemed believable. Some of Stabler's 4th quarter come from behind performances are what initially made me a Raider fan even before living in California. I don't think of football's HOF as being all that relevant to the game because of the people that aren't on their roster. The game isn't necassarilly all that subjective. It has measurements in stats that less famous players who aren't nominees for the HOF have earned. When it is subjective it has an example in that era's safeties that controlled the quarterbacks game in whether he passed down the middle or not for fear of his recievers being knocked out of the game. Jack Tatum is one such safety that is missing from the HOF roster.

From a Raider Fan's POV it hit a Steeler first and was an illegal reception, but from my point of view it sure hit Tatum first and was totally legal. Well, I'm sure your point of view and mine will be held sacred by the both of us and all fans, on both sides, until the day we die and, on our death bed, both of us will hold that out point is correct and is sacred. In this part of the video he talks about Kenny Stabler,or by his nickname THE SNAKE, but I remember when he was playing for the OAKLAND RAIDERS, as QB ,man could he throw the football as the RAIDERS are my most best NFL team ever other than the GIANTS, playing out of NEW JERSEY but when I watch the NFL DRAFT many elite players are coming into the league and now you have another league called the UFL, and many of them are formed NFL players and I remember years ago when I was working in construction a fellow worker played in the UFL,and he was black but this guy was huge big body and full of muscles, so I told him to go back into the league even if it meant that he was a 2nd or 3rd string line man because in the NFL they get paid very well because football is not a easy sport very physical that's why they have so many pads

The SNAKE was amazing. But he threw A LOT of INTERCEPTIONS WOW! 20-30 INTs in a season? He did that multiple years. That's hard to imagine now. Imagine as a fan today ... your franchise QB throws 25 INTs per year??? It's TRUE haha.

I was fortunate enough to shake Ken's hand twice. Once, in his Diamondback Saloon behind the Alameda-Genoa mall in Houston and once in my restaurant in nearby Pearland.

I'm so glad I got to enjoy football in the 70's it's hardest playing decade. I learned in 77 that it was sports entertainment after Denve (Craig Morton) threw the game. WWF scripted bullshit. It's real! Until it isn't.

The raiders were always hated. I just wish she could have got in before he passed. But he got in and that is what counts
