No doubt about Kenny being a star player, and soooo versatile!

I had the pleasure of hanging around where Kenny was playing in the Denver area in 1975 and 1976. Wow. Great memories.

Just in case you havn't got to hear these 2 songs i highly recommend SHIMMY, and MYSTERIUM, ,Though he plays with Marty Stewart and does a lot of great country playing he can pick through Rock , Blues , Jazz, Old School country and some of the coolest instumental tunes you'll hear. 40 years of pickin has made him one of the best in the biz, Even his wife Carmilla Ramsey is one hell of a player, Fiddle ,Guitar , Mandolin & one hell of a great voice, you'll hear play with Patty Loveless, COOL.
@paullevine18137 жыл бұрын
Thanks , i have been playing guitar since the late 60s . I know Kenny's playing very well & his wife's talent on Fiddle as a fan of Patty Loveless. Though i came up on the hard rock side of the 60s & 70s i like all non commercial forms of music. I also think Marty Stuart is very underrated & one hell of great player as is Kenny. These songs you mention are some of the best clips of Kenny playing other styles than what he's known for. Both him & Marty can play many styles which show just how good they both are. Again thanks .

Yessireee I can't get enough of Marty and Kenny... The guys backing them up are top notch too. I play too, and seriously appreciate what all the Superlatives do... I'd kill for a bassist/drummer like them.

Always such effortless relaxed magical playing from this Tele twanger!! I did see him with an SG on another video, but the single coil sound belongs to him.
@pauld7704 Жыл бұрын
He’s working the mixolydian scale like Jerry Garcia, this sounds like Dark Star if it was played at two or three times the tempo. I saw an interview with Kenny where he said he saw the Dead three times back in the day, said he "never saw 'em after Pigpen died”.
@pmccarty Жыл бұрын
I believe the quote about PigPen was from his interview w/ Otis Gibbs. Mixolydian scale….yippee! I could listen to Kenny riff for hours….

It kinda reminded me of China>Rider from like '72-'73. But yeah, I get the Dark Star thing as well.

Kenny Vaughan's performances are always a huge payoff for the listener - he's been absorbing American music all his life, and he's generous when he gives it back. I'm guessing he attended some Grateful Dead concerts back when Pig was with them.
@darkstar92772 Жыл бұрын
I picked up the Dead vibe as well. At the beginning it sounded like he was channeling his inner Garcia. Kinda reminded me of the jam in China>Rider. He has mentioned in interviews that he loves Jerry Garcia.

@pauld7704 Жыл бұрын
Yeah! I noticed that too, he’s working the mixolydyian scale like Jerry did a lot, this sounds to me like Dark Star if it was played at twice the tempo.

If the bass player used any less energy in his playing he'd be comatose...
