Hi Kenny, I’m enjoying this tutorial and must say I almost PMSL when you started getting jiggy with it, machining the last long piece can’t wait for the end to see the end result.

I am really enjoying this series of videos. I'm not sure why but I have the urge to build a new work bench I think it was the dancing. you make building it seem like a lot of fun I also think you make it look a little too easy you sir are a true craftsman.
@acutabove_woodworkings9 жыл бұрын
Adrian Butler Thanks for the kind words Adrian. They are appreciated. Glad to hear that you are enjoying the series. I worry that folks might get tired of watching the show when every week seems to be a repeat of the week before. Not to worry though, the bench is almost done and the regular programming will continue after that. Thanks for taking the time to drop me a comment.

I was aghast when you chose not to use the band saw for your dovetails. It came out nice though. Use sawdust when gluing to hide the gap. Nice work. You're inspiring me to build one myself.
@acutabove_woodworkings9 жыл бұрын
Hugo Danilo I'm not concerned with the gap. It's part of the character of the bench and in years to come that character will shine even more once the bench has a few dents and scratches. Thanks for tuning in.

thanks for another great video Kenny. I love the way you have tackled a lot of the challenges of the build. While the base of the bench you are building is almost identical to mine, the tops are quite different but similar in a number of respects. Great videos.

Hi Kenny another good episode on the 'The Great Build Project', as for those Dovetails I wouldn't worry about it, wouldn't that trick with the glue and sawdust work? Try it? After the amount of time and some very very hard work you have put into this build, I'm sure a tiny bit of Dovetail work wont make to much a difference to the final look, (I'm trying to say this in the nicest possible way). As for that Dancing around? I think you will be doing a lot more of that, once this build is finally finished for you. Looking forward to Part 5. Take Care, Barry from England.
@acutabove_woodworkings9 жыл бұрын
Barry Roberts The dancing is just for laughs. Life is way too serious and people take these youtube shows way too seriously. Nothing wrong with a good chuckle. As for the dovetails.....I'm not really that concerned. They came out great and I'm still very proud of them. They are much better than the first ones I cut so obviously I am improving. Thanks for chiming in Barry. It's always great to hear from you.
@chemcody51199 жыл бұрын
Well that was interesting! I didn't know you were gonna 'busta move'! :) I was nervous watching you cut those dovetails. I think you did a good job. I would have wussed out and used something easier like biscuits or pocket holes or..... If that slight gap is really bothering you, maybe you can cut a little shim piece to fill it. Anyway....I enjoyed the video. I'm looking forward to the next one.
@acutabove_woodworkings9 жыл бұрын
Chem Cody Thank you sir. Busting a move is what I do best. Ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha. I'm not too concerned with the small gap. It adds some character. I don't think that I would have been happy with anything but the dovetails for this back board of the tool well. It's just something that demands that type of joinery in my mind and I'm very glad that I bit the bullet and went through with them. Glad that you enjoyed the show. There's more to come so stay tuned.

A half an hour isn't too long, I could have stood another half hour. I am really enjoying this build. Do you know yet exactly how much wood this bench will take? Thanks for sharing this build.
@acutabove_woodworkings9 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words. I'm not exactly sure how much lumber was used, but if you are seriously interested, I'd be more than happy to figure it out for you.
@frankingram33829 жыл бұрын
kennyearrings1 No, I was just wondering and was going to check and see how much it would cost buying the lumber around here.
@acutabove_woodworkings9 жыл бұрын
That's okay Frank. I went ahead and did the math anyway. There is approximately 85 BF of maple in this bench. That should give you a rough idea of how much the lumber would cost in your area. I hope this helps you out.

Was that the Macarana? Bwhahahahah!!! Don't quit your dayjob. :) Don't feel bad, most of us watching probably suck at handcut dovetails too. A bit of glue mixed with sawdust will fix that. Nice build anyway. The bench is looking real nice. Just an FYI about Titebond III.... I learned that we don't need to wait overnight to mill glue-ups. Time is a premium. I join boards all the time, wait 1 hour tops, pull the clamps, and then run them thru the planer or tablesaw. I've never had a joint fail or a piece warp. I even tried to tear a joint apart after 1 hour and it was impossible. The wood broke instead. That glue is amazing.
@acutabove_woodworkings9 жыл бұрын
Hardnox No, that wasn't the Macarana. It was the Kenbo two-step and if it made you chuckle, then it did its job. As far as the waiting overnight goes. I run a Sawstop and if the glue is not completely dry, it might trigger the brake mechanism in the saw. I know what you mean about the glue holding after an hour. On my model builds, they are rarely clamped for longer than that, but on a build like this, I just felt better to let it dry overnight. Personal preference I guess. Thanks again for tuning in. If you keep this up, you'll end up with the Kenbo's Viewer Loyalty Award.
