His strength of will and his refusal to give up is what won the day multiple times in the Clone Wars. However, his love for Padme allowed Palpatine to manipulate him because he was desperate to save her. That could happen to *anyone*. And the seeds of doubt regarding the Jedi, especially the Council, had long been sown, like the Order's betrayal of Ahsoka. Mix that with his history as a slave and the loss of his mother... Honestly every time I see Maul die in Obi-Wan’s arms it gets me, and that’s a cartoon of all things. The fact that Obi-Wan comforted Maul in his last moments of life despite all the pain and grief that Maul had inflicted on him is both heartbreaking and shows why Obi-Wan is a true Jedi. He had love for all things even if they’re his worst enemy, and in that I think Obi-Wan realised that Maul wasn’t his true enemy and that Sidious was the one that destroyed both of their lives and took everything from them, and despite how different their beliefs and views were, Obi-Wan couldn’t have related to anyone more than Maul. I can’t wait for the Kenobi series honestly.

@@martin.ellingsen yes, in the last few episodes of S6 of The Clone Wars, Yoda begins to learn how to commune with the dead. We see the effects of this training when Obi speaks to Luke during the Trench Run in Ep4 and is a force ghost in 5 and 6. Darth Sidious manipulated Darth Maul. Sidious rejected Maul and tortured and imprisoned him. Sidious killed his brother, Savage Opress. Sidious killed his surrogate mother, Mother Talzin. Darth Sidious manipulated and turned Obi-won's best friend and pupil, Anakin Skywalker against Kenobi. Sidious ordered Darth Maul to murder Kenobi's master Qui-Gon Jinn as well as Obi-Won himself. He manipulated Anakin into critically wounding Mace Windu thus securing Skywalker's allegiance to the dark side. While Maul could not put aside his enmity with Kenobi, he recognized with his dying breath that they were persecuted by the same enemy. Sidious was the primary cause of both their suffering. Thus, his final wish is to know whether Kenobi is watching over the one who will finally defeat Sidious and avenge them both. Though they are enemies, they are also both pawns who've suffered due to the machinations of the same dark lord.

Sir Alec Guinness served in the Royal Navy in WW2, an enlisted man in ships patrolling the English Channel, which was an active combat zone all the way through 1944. What he would have most certainly seen and experienced made "PTSD" very easy to share, at least through expression, body language, and voice. Lucas sorta had the back story in place, though he wasn't absolutely fixed on Anakin become Vader until Kasadan pressed him on it for Episode V. There was press material even at the time that revealed Obi Wan battling Vader around lava puts resulted in Vader going into the suit, so presumably Guineas had that as well, and perhaps remembered a horribly burned pilot, British or German, his ship fished out of the Channel... In short, Obi wan has PTSD because Alec Guinness had PTSD.

From a certain point of view it is wrong as understanding the dark side of the force ultimately grants a Jedi to become more powerful and overall a better force user, as seen with Anakin and Revan.
@okayfam56434 жыл бұрын
@@NhBleker Yes but it also is self destructive. It will grant you power but you will lose everything else, making you weaker. A great example is Darth Sion in Kotor 2. He cannot die because of his depth in the dark side, but he is broken, unable to do anything but destroy. Anakin as darth vader becomes incredibly strong sure, one of the strongest siths to ever live, but even still his power is stated multiple times that it will never reach the potential he had as Anakin in whole body. Also define power. One power a jedi can obtain that no sith can ever reach is the ability to die and not return to the force, sith can use the dark side to create ripples or shades of their former selves like what you see on Korriban, but it cannot reach the same level of a true force ghost. True strength is likely somewhere in the middle, or apart from the force entirely. In Kotor 2 Traya talks about how she hates the force, that without it she is nothing sith or jedi, and that she cannot escape its destiny. Everyone is bound and enslaved to the will of the force in her mind, except for the few echoes in the force, like the exile. The entire struggle between the jedi and the sith is controlled by a force no one using it can truly control or dictate, so maybe its better to be neither.

Character development requires twists and turns. How a character overcomes sorrow and loss defines them. Luke, Obi-Wan, Anakin... all lost horrifically. Rey has lost nothing. So it makes her a depthless, worthless character. Her ability to quickly overcome any obstacle removes her from danger. In consequence, there is no suspense or peril about her predicament. So you arrive at a destination, where people are asking who cares about what happens to her? It's easy to care about something, but very difficult to care about nothing.

The truest Jedi there was in my opinion. Sacrificed love, his friends, his lifestyle (having to hide away for so long doing everything from the shadows) and his life for the light side. He's everything the Jedi Order stood for. I wish we could see more of his canon backstory before joining the Jedi because I feel like we know him but we don't!

They’re taken to the temple at a very young age, no time for a “before” Jedi Story! 😉
@KyleDavis3285 жыл бұрын
In fact, in clone wars they show just how young children (infants) are taken to the Jedi temple, it seems to be within the first year of the child's birth. Through the power of the force they are (apparently) able to discern force users from around the galaxy at a very early age, how the likes of Anakin and Palpatine weren't found kind of defies this and really shows how incompetent the jedi council really is Tangent: think how the galaxy would've been different if Palpatine was inducted into the jedi order as an infant instead of being discovered by Plagueis as a youth, everything would've been different.

Looking beyond Maul's hatred, I think he and Obi Wan could have become very close friends. Obi Wan did understand Maul more than Maul wanted to believe, and I personally believe Obi Wan was also merciful and would have set aside their differences if only Maul let go of his hatred and the Dark Side. Does anyone agree with me?

When you are a warrior, combat(the physical fight) allows you to know your enemy better than a conversation. How many times they fought, and the conversations they had. Maul at the end, if he could look past his hate, could have realized that Obi-wan was probably the closet thing to a best friend he had.

I’d agree with that. I think adds to the tragedy of their rivalry. In the end, Obi Wan was able to let go of his bitterness and grief, but Maul wasn’t able to do the same...

In my opinion ObiWan's story is as tragic if not more than Anakin's... He lost his Master Qui-Gon, his love Satine, his Brother/Best Friend Anakin. Everything he knew, everything he had ever loved or cared for, the order, the whole republic crumbled right in front of him. To me, he is the True meaning of a great Jedi, always choosing to do right. Anyways love Star Wars and Hope Episode 9 which is to come, will light up and make Star Wars a LEGEND again! Make it even greater than Marvel's Endgame, make it so that it will impact this new generation as it has impacted us. :)

His story will never fail to move me. Every battle he won resulted in immense loss. He defeated Maul to lose his master and his lover. He defeated greivous to effectively strike a decisive war winning blow against the enemy only ti be betrayed by his troops and watch his order fall around him. He defeated Vader, only to lose Anakin. Finally, standing there in the Death Star, he gives a smirk to Luke; knowing it’s time to give up the battle in the name of winning the war. It’s beautiful.

I really do believe that when Maul says "He will avenge us" he isn't implying revenge. I believe that as his last words he was finally letting go of his hate. On the other side, the fact that Obi-Wan perfectly baited and countered the move the killed Qui-Gon shows that Obi-Wan never forget who and what killed his master. He remembered the detail down to the exact move, but didn't let that memory fill him with hate. Yes you can argue that precognition played a role in the fight, but the fact that he takes Qui-Gon's form shows his mindset clearly. It's one of "I never forgot, but I never let it consume me either"
@peculiarpangolin46384 жыл бұрын
I also believe that the "us" does not refer to him and Savage, but rather him and Obi-Wan. They both lost everything to the Dark Side, once being the most powerful and greatest of their order, but now being reduced to a shadiw of what they were, but Obi Wan retained hope, which Maul gained at the end. Maul knows that the two are practically bound together, causing each other's misfortunes along with the Sith. In the end, he saw Kenobi not as his worst enemy, but as his closest friend.

Agree with @@peculiarpangolin4638. "He will avenge us" means that this chosen one will finally make all the sacrifices Maul and Kenobi, and by extension, everyone on all sides of this conflict, have had to make finally worth the expense and make sense, somehow. It's a final statement letting go of the thirst for revenge and destruction that consumed him his entire life.
