Fantastic video. Really like the exercise of kicking over the belt (between two chairs) as I can see how this would force you to ensure proper technique.

You guys ROCK..!! NEW Sub here. OMG...ain't seen the belt tween chairs drill in 30 frickin yrs. !!!! What a flashback !! Awesome. And ain't seen ANYBODY teach 4 count slow kicks (fast in this case) . But THAT is how I was taught every kick. 4 count slow.. then speed up.. then on a balance beam or a post in ground !! Yea.. had GREAT balance back in da day !! Lol.. as the book says.."That was then, this is now.." lol. Great Jon guys

Turning on the standing foot might feel stronger to people who have less hip flexibility and weak/tight hamstrings. However it should be clear that for a powerful forward trust, the alignment should be forward. Having the standing leg sideways also makes you lean back in a way that it sacrifices power and stability.

Hi teamki!! I have taken karate up, i am a judo guy and i have also some japanese jujutsu trainning. You said mae geri’s technique don’t have to move your standing foot, but i see both of you moving and twisting the standing foot a little in the explanation and performing kata much more. Don’t know if it is because of the speed you have to perform katas and at the moment of kicking you have to twist your standing foot fast to do the next stand form, i am confused 🤷♂️ 😐. Great channel and please teach us more karate lessons 😊.

One thing I know about this kick. You better keep that hamstring stretched. I ripped my ham string doing front snap kick in Kangku Dai right before competition. I had been sitting judging for too long. I had warmed up before I judged. And didn’t stretch enough before my competition. I still won grand champion that day. But all I could do was a reverse punch. COULDNT KICK AT ALL. I even had to change Kata. From Kangku Dai to Basi Dai. To many high kicks in Kangku Dai. Which is my Black Belt Kata. We use to do Maegeri over the back of a chair. Stretch, Stretch,Stretch.

I'm sorry, but may i give correction especially for the shotokan guy? For the basic i suggest you to minimize front knee movement. Mae geri technique is to deliver your body weight to the front. If your front knee moves (usually upside), the power delivered will decrease, so the effectiveness. When you want to mae geri push your front knee forward. Correct me if i'm wrong. Thank you 🙏

I like your technique, those were usual technique in Mae Geri/front kick............but, if I cud make suggestion, may be better if you buckling your front feet about 30 - 45 your become relax than before. Also your kicking wl be faster since your muscle move naturally........hope above mention useful and sorry for our suggestion......

Double Trouble when you do mae Geri you also use your hip to kick stronger. Therefore your back gets a little bit Backwards
@carloparisi99455 жыл бұрын
Hi guys, very interesting. Can I ask why you don't want to turn on the standing foot?
@alexlionheart53854 жыл бұрын
I was curious as well. I do not take Karate, but in Taekwondo, we pivot the supporting foot about 30 degrees which I believe is to apply a forward hip movement with the actual kick. Still training and learning!
@somebloke134 жыл бұрын
Not from this channel, but we don't turn the foot either in our dojo. It is because we roll into the front hip. Imagine ou are left foot forward. As you kick you close the left hip and form a strong platform for the kick by not moving the front foot. If you move the front foot you open the left hip, and loose the strong platform. Difficult to explain in words, but it is basically to "lock in" the centre when the knee is raised, and to maintain that lock during the kick. Hope that (sort of) explains it.
@abdelhakyac72854 жыл бұрын
@@somebloke13 I do find Taekwondo's technique more logical
@ramican91554 жыл бұрын
And if you noticed at the end of the video, they did move their standing foot during tournament.
@thachhoang19054 жыл бұрын
Because in real life, if the enemy blocks your kick, you will use the heel to "slide" back to position with balance. Once you turn the standing foot, you could hurt your own ankle
