I do not believe addiction is caused by mental illness. Most addicts are highly intelligent. I think it’s caused more from emotional abuse or trauma. We need more counselors available not psych meds.

came off the streets in jax fl, cleaned up for 3 yrs, had a bad day the other day got some fet, woke up in hospital and jus got out today after 5 days, thro up had went into my lungs they actually had to transfer hospitals. Been in and out of treatment centers but God is what woke my soul up. The church and helping others. We all have a purpose. May God awaken your beautiful soul and live u live life babygirl u r not dead! Sometimes we lose it all and get it all back and lose it again. I felt like that. I was blessed to get a group counselor at treatment who loved and accepted us all til we could accept ourselves. Thank you Gwen! My hero! Do you know how many treatment counselors were judgmental and disrespectful? Gwen was in recovery, too. That’s why none of us people in addiction and recovery can give up. The world needs more heroes!

I. Not sure if the host has ever worked in social work/social sevices but he's very good. He never judges them, just opens the possibilities of a different life, offers helps, redirects them when they get down on themselves, always says something positive, and asks open ended questions. Great interviewer, this is what they taught me in intro to social work courses

I think we all carry around our inner child ( that little boy or girl that we once we're) They don't leave us. I remember getting "spiritual healing" yrs ago + it helped me. Iwent into deep trance, Slowly I went back to facing my self each yr from 16 then stop, hug her( it was like looking at myself as that little girl until I saw myself as a 1 yr old in the cot+ I went over to her+ hugged her. Sounds ridiculous to some people but it really helped me. Be kind to yourself and that little child you were. Life is tough+ unfair+ sometimes violent. Find strength . It must be hard if Ur an addict. Addicts are so vulnerable. The drugs/ alcohol numb feelings but is it worth it. So much to gain when standing up to your demons. I hope she tries. Not easy 🌹🍀

Abstinence isn’t going to many. Medication assisted treatment such as methadone or Subutex. Pro tips for being successful on methadone: Don’t make friends Don’t keep raising your dose looking to get high. You’ll just get fat. I’ve seen it hundreds of times. You won’t feel euphoric anyway. Do get on a dose within the therapeutic dose range. Don’t get obsessed over the number of milligrams you’re on and instead aim to feel stable Do not date anyone from treatment Don’t hang out. Get your dose and leave. Educate yourself on methadone maintenance treatment (MAT) Medication assisted treatment isn’t cheating at anything. Most opiate addicts need it to come off their drug of choice. Progress not perfection Good luck 🍀
