No, Griffith (Femto) doesn't care about them. But since his host body (their child) has instinctive bond with Guts and especially Casca, he is influenced by boy's emotions. First instance of that was when he protected Casca from the rubble. Childs emotions took over and Griffith just acted on that.
@mau345
@mau345 3 жыл бұрын
i think the irony is, femto would have finally reached his final form, completely void of humanity and vulnerability, only to be corrupted again by this child's body created by guts and casca. A profound but unexpected revenge that easily trumps over Gut's expectation which is full of rage, strength, and hatred.

@@Struggler_5 I still think it is the Child. But I also think there is a duality in Griffith/Femto personas. This is speculation because we have seen Femto sparsely. Unfortunately, it won't be explored further. There could be some sort of infight within Griffith because of the presence of the Child which is making him "more human" again. That's why he is trying to recreate the Band of the Hawk, but deep down he knows it's fake. That's the reason why he tried to reenlist Ricket.

Griffith may have seemingly won but he's going to have to confront his greatest sins every full moon. Judging from the final panel, perhaps he harbors a lot of guilt, shame or sadness of what's become him and his relationship with Guts and Casca. Maybe this is better than Guts defeating him in a grand final battle, its bitter sweet but that's Berserk.

Griffith is unfeeling and has sacrificed away his humanity to be a member of Godhand. However, his body was reincarnated by using Gut´s and Casca´s son, and therefore it has strategic weakness. Whenever Moonlight Boy takes over his body, he feels strong emotions again. But when Griffith regains his power and senses back after a full-moon night, those emotions and feelings which do not belong to him, simply wilt away. The tear is just final remnant of Moonlight Child who longs to be with his parents. Griffith himself feels no warmth towards either Guts or Casca, he is just experiencing second-hand feelings from their son.

I really think that the scenes in this "final chapter" was supposed to be Kentaro Miura's version of quiet before the storm as the events within the story yet again descend into the "God" (God Hand) Forsaken world of madness that Berserk has shown reality is. I appreciate this as an ending because my heart would not have been ready for Guts and Casca to have suffered any more treachery and despair. These characters deserve this ending. That being said I would still be interested in knowing what "fate" did Miura have in store for the flow of causality to bring our band of heroes. Thank you Kentaro Miura you will be remembered with love and appreciation.

Kentaro Miura would left a book for his assistant's to finish the story as he would've wanted... The Man is smart to leave something behind so that his student can finish what he started... But as I would say this... "As the Storm draws near, this would be the harshest storm to end everything, Lands would be destroyed, Houses and trees would break apart from the raging winds, Many would be sacrificed but those who live though the storm, Will Be able to survive and tell the tale of the end, So that the story will be a legend for listeners..." It's nice to know this last chapter depicts the three main characters together finally...its warm and mesmerizing because of the nostalgia from their past moments. it's like a dream. Yet again, once the dream had passed, reality had sinked back again. Reality made fans realize that Guts would never be the same Guts, Casca would never be the same Casca and Griffith would never be the same Griffith after the events of the Eclipse. Reality was darker than black, and it is hard to forgive Griffith for his betrayal no matter how dreamy the moment is. After I've seen his face on the last chapter, crying. It wasn't beauty that I've seen. It's the complete opposite. Griffith standing there, appeared like the symbol of Guts and Casca's tragedy. Though, the three of them appeared to have shared a warm moment. Reality won't let us forget how GRIFFITH, was the sole reason, Casca and Guts can't be with their true son. It's bittersweet. I hope the editors continue berserk because GUTS AND CASCA DESERVED BETTER!

Nah... it's not a facade. Just from a storytelling perspective, that doesn't seem right. I'm not sure what the explanation is, but judging by Griffith's words, it's more like he still has his original, human side to him. Like it comes out temporarily in the form of Guts' and Casca's child, only to disappear when the full moon fades. Maybe it's because he forced himself upon Casca, that their child was affected. It's kind of funny when you think about Griffith's dream before the eclipse, in which he and Casca supposedly named their child after Guts or it was Guts even. It's like the roles are actually reversed, with Griffith manifesting as their child.

This. I've never understood how people always set it up as if Griffith is pure evil, void of emotions and never even cared about the Band of The Hawk and his companions. It always rubs me as if people have just skipped the few parts we actually get of Griffith's own thoughts and feelings, especially around the Eclipse. Hell, even him going to the Hill of Swords to test whether he would still feel anything should be an indicator that at some point he felt something. I do think the fusion of Guts and Cascas' child has something to do with his still strong feelings towards Guts and Casca, however, genuine care for his companions was displayed even before his reincarnation, yet people still seem to think that he was always completely malevolent.

I like the idea that the Moonlight Boy becomes the key to Griffith's defeat. After all, Griffith was at the peak of his glory when he cast aside his humanity and was at his lowest, when his emotions got the better of him. Even if it looks like he's absolutely invincible as a God Hand member with a terrifying army of apostles, his returning emotions make him weak. No matter what he does, he will always have a connection with Guts and Casca. And with every full moon, when he turns into this small, mute and fragile child, his humanity becomes stronger again. Guts has always been the only one who managed to make him forget his ambitions. And now, with his current incarnation, Casca's motherly affection is the only thing that makes him experience emotions again. But this time it won't be Guts but Casca. The Moonlight Boy, even before he was possessed by Griffith, did everything in his power to protect his mother. Despite being deformed and crippled, he used all energy to make sure she is safe from monsters and warned Guts whenever she was in danger. When Griffith, Casca and Guts met at the hill of swords, Griffith should have been in his emotionless God Hand state. But he definitely showed some sort of affection for her and was confused by it. As if he wasn't himself in this moment. In the Golden Age Arc, Griffith went out of his way to save Guts and even risked his life and his dream for his best friend while viewing Casca only as a tool and a soldier. But it was that deep affection for his close friend that made him do one big mistake and brought him down. Now, after the eclipse, the roles have changed. Guts is nothing more than a tool for Griffith and their friendship is gone forever, no sympathy left. But now Griffith can't help but feeling a close connection to Casca due to the Moonlight Boy's influence and it keeps getting stronger. Even if he's in his God Hand state. And it will be poetic if this affection towards her will cause him to make one big mistake that brings him down for good.

I didn't cry at this chapter, the feelings are a lot more complex and deep than mere sadness. There's sadness sure, but a melancholic smile to it too, and then the heartwrenching feelings of the ending. Goodbye Miura, you left a legacy that is unlikely to ever be forgotten.

I interpreted it as the loneliness and sadness Griffith feels at the end is just remnants of the Moonlight Boy that fades away as Griffith takes over their body. I dont think those feelings were Griffiths, but a look inside at how the Moonlight Boy is feeling as he longs to be with his parents.
@ayushkhatoi1741

I can't really interpret anything from this. Griffith/moonlight boy says, "I had a dream. That on nights with a full moon, I become an infant, and feel the embrace of a familiar warmth. But, as i wake from that dream, only a faint feeling of loneliness remains......And that, too, takes but a moment to disappear. With a single tear drop, like the morning dew." This is definitely Griffith talking as he uses 'I' and 'Become an infant'. But the feelings, that Griffith describes may not be his own instead it could be the moonlight boy's. Griffith is just describing how he feels just after he transformes back to himself from the Infant. The tears that we see on Griffith's face are actually the moonlight boy's. The "familiar warmth" that Griffith is talking about could be from the time when he used be with the old band of the hawk or it could also be the warmth that the moonlight boy always felt whenever he met guts and casca after the first time(at that small house near the sea) cuz he says it's a 'familiar' one. Man, this chapter was amazing, from art style to writing everything was perfect!!
@jtb2792
@jtb2792 3 жыл бұрын
@@ayushkhatoi1741 the way i see it. The dream Griffith is talking about is when he turns into the moonlight boy. His consciousness takes a backseat just like the moonlight boy does when griffith is awake. And the embrace of a familiar warmth, I'd say is the feeling of the moonlight boy sleeping next to casca or being close to his parents. I think if Femto has a human side, it would be different. This doesnt really fit his character, neither as Griffith or Femto. I dont know what Miura was planning for the confrontation of Griffith/Femto but I dont feel this is in the same direction as the character seemed to be going in my opiniom

@@jtb2792 Tbh, i don't really like the idea of Griffith apologizing to casca and guts after what he did. He can feel guilty about that, but straight up asking for forgiveness is in itself UNFORGIVABLE! Griffith's character has been mysterious since the time he got reincarnated as a human. So, we don't really know what's been going on inside his head. But i thought the members of the god hand rejected humanity, so wouldn't that mean they can't feel human emotions?? The moonlight boy can feel emotions though since he didn't voluntarily choose to become an apostle. If i remember correctly, the count and rosine did have emotions but also they weren't the 'God hand'. Man, there sure are a lot of unanswered questions to which i assume we will never have an answer

I think you misunderstood Griffith and Caska relationship. I believe the warmth griffith feels towards Guts is (concerning griffith) a lingering feeling of affection for his only friend. Indeed Guts "was the only one who could make him forget about his dream". The warmth Phemto feels regarding Caska is the love the moonlight boy has for his parents (as Griffith was reborn using Guts and Caska's baby as a vessel?). Griffith only ever considered Caska as a soldier, a tool to reach an end. Especially in the eclipse in which he exploited her being a woman (Gatsu's woman) as a sword to stab guts with. The tragedy of Caska's eclipse is that she always desired to be, at first Griffith's woman (but this could not happen because he wanted a kingdom and as a commoner he had to marry a princess/queen) and then Griffith's sword (but then Gatsu joined the army and took this role from her). During her rape Phemto, in a twisted, sadistic and tragic way, saw Caska as she wanted to be seen at first, a woman to torture Gatsu with. Griffith never had any form of love/passion for Caska. I hope you can understand this. English is not my first language

well if you re-read the chapters when griffth is rescued just before eclipse. you will notice that griffth clearly senses how the relation between guts and caska is i.e of lovers. so i think griffth got jealous of guts (my perspective) or maybe he just wanted to show his superiority to guts since he was defeated before.
@matteoriva4849
@matteoriva4849 3 жыл бұрын
@@animeuniverse5586 i understand but I think it's an understatement to explain griffith's actions as an act of jealousy or of superiority (both are right, mind you, but they don't explain everything). After being rescued and seeing Gatsu again, Griffith is overwhelmed with anger and resentment towards him (in the cell he first tries to strangle him). Then he gives in and hugs him (at least tries to). This "hatred" is further experienced by Griffith when he is back with the survivors of the hawks. After the tortures he is not a man anymore, he is the shadow of what he was. A symbol of hope for the last hawks. He sees the dynamic in the group, he sees how Gatsu is revered as the leader and caught Caska's affection and attention (which, before, was only directed at Griffith). He feels useless, he is useless, he can't walk, wield a sword, not even speak (remember the chapter in which he was on a chair, incapable of moving and speaking). In his eyes the cause of his fall is only Gatsu and when he gets the opportunity he punishes him, pays him back by stripping him of everything he treasures (their friendship, their "family", and most of all Caska). Just like Gatsu, the most important person for Griffith, left him (to find his dream and be griffith's friend and equal), Phemto takes by force Caska, the most important person to Gatsu.

I think the whole point with that ending scene with Griffith was that he is referring to the "warmth" of the feeling of "safety" the party presently feels while they are there in the land of the fairies. Unfortunately, his dialogue also implies that even that is momentary. How so? Well, if you remember, that land is supposed to be a sort of safe territory, a sanctuary where even people with the brand can live and not be reached by the forces of evil. It is protected from the outside to put it simply. So how will the enemy breach that protection? The same way Griffith did. By returning to his innocent self as the moon child despite already being Femto incarnate, he is able to get inside the sanctuary. Like the witch said, by Guts and Casca being there, the bonds of fate they shared with the child allowed the kid to be "pulled" towards them inside the sanctuary and thus finally able to fully materialize there as all three converged. Afterwards, what's left to do is for Griffith to return to his adult form and his infiltration is brought into fruition. He can finally summon his demonic forces from within and destroy the last sanctuary that stands between his side and the opposition. If my understanding of the pacing and the flow of story is correct, this would've been Miura's opening for the last act of Berserk's story. With Griffith successfully infiltrating the last bastion of safety for Guts' party and the rest of humanity, the age of darkness finally swallows the world in its entirety. The final moment of despair for the main characters. However, in this last moment of despair is where stories like this usually find the last glimmer of hope. The main characters and all their experiences, connections, meetings by fate, all bring together the story to a climactic last stand against evil, and then the story concludes with the ending. At least, that's how it felt like to me. Perhaps Griffith's words would also serve as hints to his remaining humanity being his last vulnerability in the final battle? We'll never know. One thing I do recall about Berserk is that Miura (or somebody who interviewed him) might have compared it or at least referred to it as being a story similar to Macbeth. Now, I don't know Macbeth, only the few things I've heard about that story and its ending. But from what I can recall, Macbeth's story was something along the lines of Macbeth killing the king and becoming king and ruler of all power in the country for the sake of purely his ambition. As a character, he still has regrets in what he has done for the sake of ambition, but his chosen path pushes him continuously towards more and more killing. In the end, Macduff (the protagonist) kills Macbeth who thought of himself as un-killable by any man born of a woman (Macduff was "ripped out" of his mother as a baby/caesarean) off-stage. The characters apparently reflect the characters in Berserk, but I'm not sure how true this is or if it's just an interviewer's impression. It does sound kind of close though.

I think this is the real Griffith like he has nothing to hide and he's finally able to feel something and he's honest about it. In my opinion if they make another chapter it should start with Griffith spilling out everything he has to say while Casca and Guts are in complete shock just trembling in fear and anger. Guts goes to attack but is subdued in a single move he feels completely powerless and not a single attempt from him can even reach him he breaks down from all the emotions it's too much for him he sobs as he struggles constantly but is held down by the force of Griff's powers. Griffith tries to apologize but Casca screams out in anger and rushes him she throws wild haymakers at him. Griffith takes the abuse his face getting bloody and bruised as she screams "BRING HIM BACK BRING BACK MY BABY DAMN YOU!!!!... please please we just had him" she starts to lose steam as Griffith's face slowly heals itself. Griffith gets up off the ground and looks at his two most beloved and tortured friends. He looks back at them both tears rushing down his face he wipes them away and says and his face begins to look more stoic "I needed this... I love you both... I'll see you soon" he fades away with a smile of pure joy and as he does Guts is no longer restrained by the power he tries to make a run but it's too late Griffith's gone. He drops down to his knees goes totally silent with a blank expression on his face Casca goes to him shaking him and yelling at him but nothing is registering after a while she just holds him and tries to give him some kind of comfort.

Last panel aside, which changes nothing in how i feel about Griffith, this was in a way a beautiful ending for the manga. I like to imagine that this is how Miura would have wanted it to end anyway once all was said and done, with them living happily together. Guts training his new pupil, Farnese continuing her magical apprenticeship and Casca raising her child...

I really do hope that Guts, Casca, and the Moonlight Boy will have a happy life together, they truly deserve it. The same for many other characters such as Rickert, Erica, Luca, and Jill (village girl), I hope that they will be alright, that they will survive these times. I also hope that both Roderick and Farnese will grow closer as a couple. I hope that she will give Roderick a chance, he really is interested in Farnese as a person, he clearly loves her. Besides she must know by now that Guts’s heart belongs to Casca alone, correct?

I alway loved that manga, it was really something unique compared to the manga and animé of today. It was really amazing and it is really sad that the creator died. Kentaro miura had so much potentiel... it is really sad but at least whe have his gift that is a real piece of art. Kentaro may peace be upon you wherever you will be and know that you will be missed by all of us. 😔

Causality means “Things influence other things” In psychology there is a term called parts this why there is a tharapy called “ internal family system “ which resembles causality really well i think guts and grifith are a story of a single traumatized psyche told in parts , just when kaska revived grifith was revived as well as a boy meaning he could feel emotions and stoped feeling shame which reflects the purity of children and then guts became vulnerable hence dropping the armor and could stop his rage finally , i think kaska resembles the heart of grifith or the suppressed emotions and guts his rage against his own self they were marked because they were suppressed and the demons they fight are the non suppressed parts of grifith the battle of grifith and guts and kaska are an internal battle of a traumatized psyche or parts in conflict , from what i understood the facade of utopia or happiness is not true happiness it’s pleasure and short lasting only a small friction of error would cause all hell break lose again because the way grifith dream is built on is a persona or a facade which gave away a grandiosity gap that child could see through him and slapped him because grifith was never authentic only when he could feel emotions he became authentic and could truly love , if i could summarize it more its the trauma of narcissism when there’s envy and rage against the world ( guts ) because of the lack of sustained healthy self image ( grifith ) that suppose to be felt from a loving parents , the child repress emotions ( kasks ) the child think “ objects“ or status would give him the same feeling of love that comes from healthy emotions to fill the hole in his heart he would relentlessly chase that. “ dream “ of dead objects that would only give happiness for a very short moment followed by shame and anger and envy hence the demons are still fighting in grifith mind the other side of city or his unconscious and about to come out any moment again i also think what he was trying to say is both guts and grifith are unhealthy cooping mechanisms to the problem , only when gut became vulnerable he could stop being angry and that anger wont go away with owning status and only when grifith accepted his emotions because he stopped feeling toxic shame he was reborn as a child again that got in touch with his feelings as well as stopped his rage and envy to life and self , in those destructive moment when guts go berserk deep inside he knows that hes doing something wrong meaning ( grifith knows hes wrong but keeps on denying it ) , the writer made grifith dream become true because its about a narcissist that reach his full potential and goals that made his pathological dream come true and still NOT BE HAPPY … he was only using characters to show you the internal dynamics of that trauma but from what i don’t fully understand is the eclipse gods , the emulate resembles trauma for sure , the 4 gods i think are the non suppressed parts the narcissist use to reach his dream that fights the repressed parts ( shame / emotions ) Conrad : the part that is inauthentic and most regressed which look like a deformed child this is why narcissist never grow Ubik : is the part that wants to sacrifice people to feel grandiose because narcissism specially overt narcissism have been described like a religion that need “ followers “ to sacrifice themselves for the narcissist to feel like a god Slan : the part that view sexuality as power play and view people as objects ( sadisim ) , also autoerotic and twisted from the lack of emotions , love is lust for this part Void : the part that intellectualize and refuses to feel only living life through the mind Together they form the callous femto “ the ultimate persona “ as the ruler of the eclipse “ the king “ i have no idea what the armor king is or zord

I have heard a lot of people saying that these are moonlight child's emotions and not Griffith's but hear me out: Moonlight child + Femto = Griffith Because it would be like (-) + (+), the two completely opposite forms of Griffith, the emotionless Apostle and the emotional child, combined for a single moment reducing him back to his original human form. Even for a second, even for a tear, we get to see pro-Eclipse Griffith expressing the emotions he holds since the Eclipse that have been buried under the emotionless form of Femto. I hope my theory makes sense

You forget to mention the fact that Griffith is literaly the child of casca and Gates since he used his body to reborn in this world during the second eclipse, wich make the situation even more complicated because they are bould not only by betrayal, hate and friendship but by blood too. As serpico said in the episode, they look like a family and literaly they are. Its so fucked man I love this manga so much.

Right...throwback. Guts, never led the band of the hawk, he merely is a captain of the raiders division. So it makes sense that in Griffith's old vision given to him by void before becoming femto, Griffith and Casca(the actual leader and the acting leader of the band of the hawk) live a commoner's life, with guts as the kid. Now though, with the latest chapter, roles are reversed. Guts is the patriarch, Casca the mom, and Griffith the kid. Pretty much another callback. Guts had no dream, yet still thinks maturely. Casca, suffers from the hex of the past looming over her waiting to be remembered. And now Griffith. Isn't it known as a bit insane and childish to follow your dreams? And when do dreams manifest on you? When you were but a wee child. So, makes sense. Guts, whose eyes were opened to the world very early on, matured faster, mentally. Casca, managed to have a pretty normal childhood up until her teens. Griffith, had childhood, and still is childish. Throwback again to when Guts and Griffith splashed each other with water, and guess what? Griffith's in the nude while Guts is in full armor. So yes, makes sense. Zegodhand gave Griffith a vision, vastly different to what causality planned for him. Turns out there's no MC or true antagonist even. Or maybe, a Trinity against SK.

It’s kind of depressing that Tetsou Hara is going to be still creating manga and art after the death of Kentaro even though Tetsou Hara’s art and work on Hokuto No Ken is arguably the main inspiration responsible for Guts and the world of Bezerk. The high detailed and themed characters and gore as well as the design of Kenshiro are clear inspirations for the many great parts of Bezerk which makes it sad that Kentaro has been taken from us and can’t finish the series while his predecessor is still able to work to a degree even with his eye condition. As a big fan of The Fist of the North Star and the many series that it inspired this saddens me. I would recommend that people check out The fist of the North Star as it will give an insight into much of the inspiration for the art and approach to complex character creation/themes that Kentaro Excelled at. I think it’s important to see the roots of someone important that we lose as it tells us much about them that we can use to celebrate their lives and turn our sadness into strength rather than internal rage and weakness.

I have no idea what Miura had intended for the future of this series. But I’ve come to realize something about the final situation we find ourselves watching unfold. Guts has been searching for his dream since he left the hawk. A lot of theories I’ve seen and some lines point to casca. I agree, but I think it’s this kind of family you mentioned. In these moments of peace, guts gets his dream. I’m sure he realizes it as well. But his dream is also his greatest enemy. He can’t ever forgive Griffith. But Griffith now shares his child. Guts’ greatest struggle is going to be choosing to forgive Griffith. Or kill his own child.
