Thank you for posting this. As someone that played in college but after graduating not touching the 88's in 35/36 years while getting back in shape, I came across this clip and WOW! I'm inspired. And I studied George, Ahmad and Oscar big time back in the day. Thanks again.

I have been watching you tutorials for several months and have concluded that your piano skills are fantastic. Your jazz technique is very diverse and your presentations are clear and concise. Just want to say thanks. Also, would like to know how to obtain sheet music or lead sheet. Your tutorials are greatly appreciated. Do you play at any clubs or public venues? If so, where do you perform? Mike
@KentHewittpiano885 жыл бұрын
That's a great comment, Mike. It's people like you that make the purpose in my life worthwhile. (which is not always an easy task). All the free music sheets I have are on my website under the heading: Free Music Downloads. If it's not there, ask me and I may have in a home file. I play gigs in RI and CT mostly these days, but I'm not doing that so often, as in the past (which is the same for most of my colleagues).

You've presented quite a few approaches on piano styles. What should a jazz piano player do? Use as many styles as possible or take only one style and work on it to the highest point? I think that each song tells me how it wants to be played, but then, my piano might be a mix of styles. What do you think?
@KentHewittpiano887 жыл бұрын
It's up to you. I always say the more versatile you can become, the better player you'll be, given any situation or gig. Particularly us journeymen. However there's examples like George Benson or Miles Davis...men of many hats, who both made a ton of money. In contrast, Bill Evans, pretty much stuck to one style, and perfected it to the highest degree.

I think I get what drop 2 chords are but am I choosing the inversion to fit the melody and therefore the drop note will be determined by that?
@KentHewittpiano884 жыл бұрын
That's correct. It's a right hand voicing w/ melody harmonized w/ 6th chords or diminished and the 2nd note from the top dropped down an octave and played in the LH. I have a playlist on Drop 2 (More detailed info) if you go to playlists on my channel page.
