That was hard to watch. SMT component removal can be accomplished using the non-standard method seen here but the application of heat should be minimized or there is a high risk of circuit board delamination, which can typically cause lifted traces resulting in loss/diminished continuity as well as stressing neighboring component tolerances. I personally wouldn't modify a $600 portable without utilizing proper SMT equipment.

It is just a resistor... I would have used some wick+flux though on top of the resistor so that you don't have to go back and forth from pad to pad. I feel like using hot air for this is over kill and you would have more of a chance of messing something up if inexperienced.

I usually work with hot air but this time I was in a hurry :-) Indeed, the temperature was a bit lower than necesarry.

Please don't melt your radio!!!!Use a pocketknife and pry the resistor off of the board. It breaks the resistor off of the board without any heat or mess. I did it to mine. It took about 2 seconds and no soldering iron required!

The components are not only soldered but also glued to the board. i usually do not recommend the "brute force" because you can damage the copper and often under the components are some thin traces.
