To say the least, the DP is a brilliant, composed and focused leader, who the interviewer found difficult to twist. In many areas Kaikai clearly explored, the DP had a ready and satisfying answer,. On a scale of 1 to 10, I award him 8. He's my next president. He's just an advisor, among many, and not a decision maker.

The Deputy President's argument that taxation should be proportional to income makes sense. Those who reap more than others from the system should pay more for maintenance of the system, not merely because we all depend on it but because we can all live better if we create a more prosperous society. The term Hustler, I feel, has been misinterpreted for political reasons. Rather than doing whatever one can do legally to earn livelihood, it now means reliance on charity of others. The hustler movement is about empowerment of every member of our nation by lifting those at the bottom of our economy to rise and catch up with those at the top. The DP's view that no ethnic group can win the presidency without alliance with others is correct, no matter how large the group is. The interviewer's attempt to drive a wedge between Uhuru and Ruto, paint Ruto as anti the Jubilee government of which he is a member was pathetic. Like many other leaders, Ruto has been connected with scandals that have never been established. Trying to pin those on which Ruto has been mentioned on him turns the interview into an inquisition rather than an interview,; rather than pursuit of information, it became a prosecution. For example, the death of Tenei is in the hands of the police; was insinuation that the DP somehow knows more about it than he said before really necessary. I admired the D.P's cool and his vision of a new Kenya, his admission that despite Jubilee's many successes, there have been failures and that he intends to build on the successes and try remedy the failures. Who can ask more of a man. Please excuse errors and omissions.

Investment is a function of saving that is one view. Another view is that saving is a function of investment. The nature of relationship between the two is a matter that is yet to be settled by economists. Debt of Kenya also has to do with the fact that we do not build our infrastructure, it is built and operated for us at great foreign exchange expense. Our savings denominated in KES cannot settle our debt that is denominated in foreign currency. The debt of Japan is denominated in Yen, their Yen savings can settle the debt. There is need for Kenyans to emulate the Chinese strategy which is about financing enterprises to be key domestic as well as global players. We need hustlers to be major exporters of wheelbarrows amongst other goods and services.

NHIF contribution being capped at 1700 is pretty much okay! Contributing on percentage just creates a new avenue for the government to rip off an employee off their hard-earned income with no promise of actually providing value for the money contributed. Currently, if you are employed in the private sector, and your employer gives you a medical cover as one of the benefits, NHIF only pays for the bed. In other terms, you will just be giving off your income to the government for hospital/health services you will never get. Unless it's put voluntary, I would never want to give the government any more of my salary just for them to misappropriate it. As for NSSF, yes contributing on a percentage makes sense, because, at least, this is income you can access in old age, or at least your family can acces.
