Hey guys, this was an older video that I put together when I noticed that I wasn't doing as well "sickness" wise. Maybe I'll make a video about what's going on since I have a better idea now. I really appreciate you all sticking with me and supporting me even though I haven't been able to post as frequently. I love you all so much.

Is there a reason you chose to put the heat mat on the side of the tank instead of under? I’m getting a KSB in a few weeks and want to make sure I set up his tank properly is all.💗
@MaddieSmith4 жыл бұрын
Typically animals burrow to get cooler, so my thought was that I could contain his hot spot more towards the top as well so he can still go to the bottom of the rest of his enclosure and stay cooler. Typically he hangs out towards the very top against his mat with his lil head poking out. :)
@courtneybrown90722 жыл бұрын
Generally that’s what the other side of the tank is for. They can burrow through the gradient and get to the cooler side

Hey maddie or anyone else who knows, why put the heat mat on the side of the tank vs the bottom?, I'm getting my ksb today and my mat is on the bottom.
@MaddieSmith5 жыл бұрын
luvlost03 the heat on the bottom is okay too! As long as the bottom of the tank isn’t squishing the heat mat right against a table or hard surface! I just put it on the side but the bottom is fine too! Congrats on your new snake!

Is there a benefit to putting the heat mat on the side vs bottom?
@safetyzone29623 жыл бұрын
Cord doesn't get pinched, it has better ventilation, easier to monitor, doesn't heat the surface below, and the manual of the Zoo Med Repitherm heat mats come with a instruction sheet that tells you that you can put it on the side. Belly heat is a myth. Also, I wouldn't even recommend heat mats anymore. They can catch on fire even with a thermostat, and they sometimes don't last long. The better option is a Deep Heat Projector. More info can be found on these at the channel "Leopard Gecko".

Can you put one female and one male in the same enclosure?
@GavnerWinterLuver5 жыл бұрын
Cohabbing isn't a good idea unless you have a lot of experience. KSB can tolerate living with each other, though, if the enclosure is big enough. If you are super set on putting two in a tank, I'd recommend a 40 or (preferably) bigger with a lot of hides and places they can get away from each other. In general, I find putting multiple snakes into an enclosure is just more work than it's worth-feeding becomes more challenging, there's a lot more cleaning involved, health problems are more likely to go unnoticed. Also, there is always the chance of males and females breeding. All in all, I dont recommend it, but I'm also not an expert :) hope this helped a little

Huge question. Do you recommend cohabitation for sand boas? I am getting a male and a female but I have one 20 gallon long tank
@SohiHien2 жыл бұрын
no, they should not be cohabed. These snakes should only ever be together for a few days during breeding season if you plan to breed them. There are very few snakes that can be kept together. If you want 2, buy another tank.
@itscris012 жыл бұрын
@@SohiHien What about two females? And I thought these guys lived in groups out in the wild?
@SohiHien2 жыл бұрын
@@itscris01 No. Pretty much no snakes live in groups in the wild minus garter snakes and a few others. These guys are solitary.

You can visually sex a kenyan if you are actually curious what Harold is. Females get a lot larger, ive had a make but i personally am wanting a girl. My boy is a pain to feed lol
@MaddieSmith5 жыл бұрын
Based on just visual I'm thinking Harold is female because of tail shape and how fast they're growing but time will tell!
@connievoyce90575 жыл бұрын
Hey no hate but kenyan sand boas need alot more floor space than that. Your enclosure looks great but it's not about appearance. They love to burrow and if there's not enough floor space, they won't be able to do that properly.
