Kenyan runner Willy Mnangat has said he let China’s He Jie win the Beijing Half Marathon, explaining he did it “because he is my friend”. The end of the 21km (13-mile) race on April 14, 2024, caused uproar online as suspicions were aroused about the leading runners, all from Africa, appearing to let He overtake them.

But their behavior and gestures is how you know it’s one of the matches where they’re threatened just when the match starts not to defeat their Chinese opponents. It happens in their boxing a lot too! These people come for balanced game and just at the last minute before the game start, they’ll be told that they’re not allowed to be victorious over the Chinese opponent at the end. Happened to a friend of mine. He had no idea they would do that till the last minute.
