Hoping you can clear this up. I have a 2023 540I RWD and my engine block says B58B30C. As far as I can tell that is the Supra version. I cannot find a single source that says they put those in 540s. Any insight?

2020 840i would have the B58TU but middle output so the 2 port B58C 335hp.

The reason why they put the lower output version B58 in the later bigger cars - 5 and 7 series must have been because both of them have a 50i version car with the N63. I think bmw didn’t want to confuse 5 and 7 series performance buyers with a high powered b58 vs a n63, likely would have hurt n63 sales

the same could be said for the 3 and 4 series. The M240i makes more power than the 340i, but the M2 makes less power than the M3. So the gap in 2 series is closer than 3 series. It depends on a lot of factors.

@@kern417 where is gets complicated for the bigger cars is the extra engine they have in the performance versions. I.e. B58, N63 and S63. The smaller cars have B58 and S58.

it's no different. the smaller cars have b48, b58, and s58. but the b58 is put in everything from a 1 series to an X7. so in a lot of cases the bigger cars come with more power because the bigger cars have more weight. so again it just depends on how they decide to approach it. Also they introduced the M-lite designation so those cars basically come with an MMPSK tune similar to what was offered as an option on Gen 1. Now it's just a standard package, so all the cars come with Msport trim, MPPSK tune, Mperformance LSD, etc.

Still not sure what I’ve got in my 2018 M240i rated at 335 hp. Everything on it and the hp rating matches the series 1 B58 with 2 port heads EXCEPT mine has the 6 port exhaust head. I bought it new so it’s stock. So WTF is it, and would a tune instantly bump it to 380 hp as the other 6 port B58s ?

@@kern417 Was looking for a 2019 x3 m40i for a while but recently picked up a g05 x5 40i - Production date 2019-05-01. Through your videos, I am aware of the differences in b58 between the 2018-2019 x3 m40i (6 port) and 2019 x5 40i (2 port). For the x5, I am thinking the b58tu and a higher quality catted DP (something like AA - don't want smell) + MHD. Would you suggest anything else? Would you recommend a different catted DP? I can't find much info on the g05 forums - it's super quiet there..!

@@g.thandi824 keep in mind the 2 port vs 6 port conversation is dealing with the gen 2 engines. All gen 1 are 6 port. A catted downpipe is fine for stock turbo and moderate power levels. They all work similarly but some people like finding a downpipe with a gesi cat since they are good quality

I have a M440i 2019 i have the tu pump, does that mean i need to tune my mhd stage 2 + or i woyld need to upgrade to dorsch stage 1 for that? Im currently tune mhd stage 2 with 95 oct. Im using 94 oct tho, thats what we have in Canada here petro 94.
