Very nice detailed Video. Thanks. It's better to keep with new plastic housing like the original. Aluminum gets more heat up, which can make leaking effects on plastic hoses clamps later.

I do the oil changes on my 2022 M240ix. On the initial change, the oil filter cover (cap) was so tightly torqued down by the BMW manufacturing plant at San Luis Potosi, Mexico that I was concerned they had cross threaded it with the housing. It wasn't as difficult as when you removed the cap on your replacement housing, but too much torque for a hard plastic housing that's only going to get more brittle with time and high heat exposure. When I reinstalled the filter cover and torqued it to specs, it was clearly not as tight as the factory had installed it, I'd guess they had it 2x torque spec.

Huge shoutout to Kern for making this video. I just did the job on my 17 540i in about 4 hours. Really not that hard to do. Just remember to pull the DME connector closest to the fire wall and give the car three 15 second long cranks to build oil pressure before you fire the engine up for the first time.

@@CarlosPlayhouseif you only have a metal oil filter cap that you twist off to change the filter, the actual housing that the cap threads onto is still plastic and is still likely to leak. Metal housings can be found online for $300ish and if you have one of those then you should only need to replace gaskets, though this is a less likely scenario.

I know this comment is old but N55 cars don’t actually need the intake manifold removed, just bolts loosened which gives you flexibility to lift it and get socket/rachet on that one tricky bolt. I remember so when I did the gasket replacement on my E90 2011 BMW 335i (N55)
