Heh the NanoNest founder is talking like there aren't zillions of these on AliBaba in this exact design and layout produced by various factories and he's not just turning around and placing orders. Cool to see he actually managed to get them state-side. They all seem to have similar awkward layouts with things like fridges in front of windows and standalone closets rammed into the middle of rooms.

Still an amazing price plus the superfast turnaround. Hopefully someone comes up with something similar for the victims of the California fires too. Although I would imagine it would cost $200k to due to the permitting and red tape California requires.

It would've been great if they made a full house out of 4 of those. First floor would be a main bedroom with a bigger and open floor plan of the kitchen and living room. Turn the small bathroom into a laundry room. Second floor can have 2-3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Perfect layout in my opinion.

I’ve looked at a few of these designs and most offer customization. And they can add more than two side by side creating bigger and bigger homes. It looks interesting. All that said, I don’t think you’ll get a final answer until you contact the individual company directly.

I dont understand why these arent double stacked like so many duplexes that once stood there. Even tripple stacked in the back or wherever its aesthetically copacetic with the neighborhood. Arent the corner points strong enough to hold? Or are these just not as strong as normal shipping containers (hollow steel post corners) that can go skyscraper high?

@KerryTarnow Having two bathrooms is always a good idea. You can always put bunk beds in the little bedroom if you need an extra bed. If you're just going to sleep in there it doesn't matter who else is there as long as everybody's asleep.

Serious question: I am reaching the age when stairs are the enemy. I want a manufactured home that sits with the floor top level with the ground or darn close to it. I want a zero height entrance. As the pictures in this video show, the homes are placed on an above-ground foundation. Can one dig a pit to put the foundation in so the home sits level with the ground? Is there are foundation system that does stick up? What are the choices for us older folks?

Concrete homes are not suitable for earthquake prone areas, like California.

Not exactly. Homes are increasingly built to be manageable in their environments. Steel framed homes, cement-imbued panels, coated aluminum panels, rammed-earth, etc. are landing in places where it makes sense. As mentioned, cement is not good for earthquakes, wood is not good for fires and high winds. In more and more places experiencing extreme weather and fires, steel structures with non-flammable panels make the most sense.

I love the concept and the design. I hope the snap together design can be expanded. Hopefully they will be able to move here as Trumps tarriffs will likely affect imports from China, but it would be a great company to have here. I do hate that frosted shower. Putting on shows, even muted ones for the neighbors is not my idea of fun. Not a fan of the fridge in front of a window or that many windows. Cat 5 is nice but I would still like to see shear walls on at least one end...Some metal inserts on the end would erase that showers glass as well.

Essentially a Chinese RV without the trailer. Are the interior materials safe from off-gassing? $79k? plus foundation, assembly, shipping, $125k+ completed, and without site costs? In the 2+ years since the fire a whole bunch of USA made manufactured homes from companies like Cavco & Champion could have been shipped to Maui, but more than likely Cavco etc would decline the "pay to play" required from Hawaii government officials. What will these be worth 5 years from now? or will they be scrapped? Good use of taxpayer funds?
