That is some impressive pivot lube. I've been using Hoppe's no.9 gun lube, which is, basically, mineral oil. It does do a pretty good job for me, however, I plan to try the KPL product. I have already bookmarked their website page. Thanks for the demo!

You are absolutely right about the Lock bar tension. When I play with mine for around 20 minutes or so my thumb starts to hurt from pushing the Lock bar to drop the blade. It’s very strong. And also about the point being center but the blade looking closer to the show side. Optical illusion? I don’t know 🤔. It seems our 0609s work similarly. I didn’t write you back about the Mini Griptilian 20CV cause when I started making my numbers I came to the realization that I spent enough money for the next months. I got my Giant Mouse 5 today. Beautiful!!! I should be quiet until Xmas!! Hahaha

Excellent vid. so many people use sooooo much oil. its not worth it. just gonna slow it down. the only reason to apply lube to the bearings themselves is to prevent corrosion/rust, and only a very very thin layer over the metal needs it. so one tiny tiny tiny drop is all thats needed to oil all the bearings. the action is dictated by the detent, so the tiniest bit on the detent track is idea. i apply a drop to a qtip and just smear it on the detent track. the qtip allows it to get to where it needs and not where it doesnt and soaks up the excess lube. tests were done on knives to show that the lightest amount of lube was the best action. knives like the grimsmo dont even need lube for action. its the same with or without. the reason why grimsmo offer lube with there knives is that sometimes it gets gritty and instead of taking it down and cleaning it with soap and water like they should do, they just do a quick fix and apply a drop of lube on the detent track (as per there youtube video). its too bad the tool was an after thought. it sucks they didnt include it too. and it sucks it doesnt work as good for the ZT as it does the kershaw. zt needs to THINK AHEAD. your zt may drop shut with time. steel bearings take a while to wear a track into the metal races and blade. one reason why ceramic bearings are often used elsewhere, is because the ceramic is harder and wears the races in faster.

I like the 0609 but the pivot is what has had me holding off. I daily the 561 and it's been my BFF for 3 years running. If they would put out a pivot replacement kit that let you change it out for a standard star or even a slotted top I would buy it in a heartbeat but my concern is if I edc-ed this I would be taking it apart everything 3-4 weeks and I just don't see that pivot holding up long term for me. Great action for a week or so old and great video.

Did you use an heat gun to melt the locktite
@mrblauer15 жыл бұрын
That is some sweet action you managed to get. I wonder if the difficulty breaking the Locktite is in part due to the size of the threads. That is a lot of surface area to loosen.
@Stassa235 жыл бұрын
mrblauer1 yes I’m sure that had a lot to do with it and I think they put a little more than normal since they New the tools weren’t ready and they didn’t want them to loosen up on people and they not be able to tighten it just a guess
@mrblauer15 жыл бұрын
That makes sense. The tools the provide really do need cheater bars lol

I’m disappointed if it’s that easy to scratch the pivot using the proprietary tool on the knife as it comes from the factory. Got any advice to prevent scratching? Tape over the pivot?

Hey stassa. I'd like to hear your opinion on a problem with zt knives. I've seen a few videos talking about lock failures on zt's. I didn't give it much thought until today when I figured I'd test my nine zt's. I gave them what I consider spine taps, not whacks. Four of the nine failed. 0452cf, 0462, 0562, and 0393sw. Would you trust a knife that can so easily disengage the lock? I've been a big zt fan but now I don't want to buy any more of their knives. My $52 Bestech swordfish passed the test but $220+ zt's didn't. To me this is unacceptable. I sent a strongly worded email to zt but I don't expect it to amount to anything. I believe these knives are a danger to the user. Appreciate your thoughts on this. Thanks man.
@Stassa235 жыл бұрын
srg914 yes it is definitely a huge problem and is a problem you would think they would have figured out a fix for because it’s a lock geometry issue because when you have a steel lock face coming into contact with a steel tang there is a good chance of lock slip and that’s what’s going on with the Zt’s there lock faces are flat like they should be but the angle on the tangs needs to be cut just right because if it’s to steep the lock will slide off of it and if it’s to flat then you will be able to push the lock bar over 100% which I was able to do to so of my Zt’s. Let me do some more research and talk with a few makers about this topic and once I have enough info to put together a informative video I’ll do one but if I wouldn’t be able to hand pick my Zt’s to completely inspect them I wouldn’t own any which is a shame because I love to support my US companies when possible but it’s hard when there’s QC issues like these that are potentially very dangerous. Well brother hope you’re having a great day talk to you later

KPL vs Nano Oil? Who would win ?
@Stassa234 жыл бұрын
Foxrock321 I prefer KPL especially on knives with washers cause I find nano oil can cause some drag but there are some knives that I started with kpl only to find nano oil was a better fit. That said if I had to choose one or the other it would have to be kpl.

Cool. I have both, and Daiwa reel oil, and good ol Hoppes No 9

Hey, does this knife have a free spinning pivot , if so it’s really disappointing why in hell they wouldn’t install a D shaped pivot , there is no excuse to do a free spinning pivots unless you are Shirogorov then yes it’s ok. Was thinking to get this knife for my brother from another mother birthday as a gift present…

I can’t remember sorry it’s been a while since I’ve had that Knife but if it does have a free spinning pivot that’s garbage

@@Stassa23 I totally understand, thanks much for the answer. Much love & respect from West Ukraine. I’m really digging the content on your channel, real man solid and fair reviews, you enlighten people with knowledge about knives and how good they are , is a price tag of the knife screams proper value et cetera, so you are a good man doing it the right way, thanks to your information and conclusion people are watch your channel will already know how to make a wise choice when it comes to choosing, buying, carrying, cleaning and maintaining, sharpening etc. My favorite knife as we speak is a TRM Neutron 2 in textured CF , I have an Atom as well bur Neutron is just a perfect lil cutting tool, thin, light, slicey, does not look scary to the non-knife ppl, and the price is fair especially if you are lucky to live in the US, I wait up to 50 days sometimes, usually a little less than a month to come to Lviv , the city of Lion, UKRAINE! What do you think about a Neutron ? Respect! put in huylo lalalalala
@doejon94242 жыл бұрын
Of course it's a free spinning pivot, if it was a "D shape" pivot or similar self locking pivot.. that goofy tool wouldn't be two pieces. It's the reason I'm holding off on this knife, eventhough I love the looks. If it was not free spinning, you wouldn't need that spiked tool on each side when tightening / loosening the pivot screw. Shame too because I love everything about this knife except the free spinning pivot.

I sent KPL a email requesting a contact phone number and company address. I never received a return email to my inquiry. Have you had a better experience with them? Do you have a contact phone number? Please advise. Excellent video.

Zak Beaulieu sorry I was in a bad industrial explosion 3 years ago and the smoke along with the blast tore up my throat and crushed my sinus cavity and I’ve had surgery on my nose but unfortunately there isn’t much I can do about the throat even though since I had the surgery on my nose it has made my throat way better so I hope it shows in my more recent videos.
