Your tutes are terrific - thank you! As I am an enthusiastic, but new, student of precision hand piecing, I’d appreciate seeing how you press the backside of a finished complex block. 🥰👏

I am new to all this sewing .by hand is how I want to go for now.I decided to make your little pincushion seen in video. I cut all little pieces the same size and sewed them together.I found some had shunk in size. and were not square. I sewed from edge to edge and tried to maintain a small seam but some were still smaller than the others when joining them together.I noticed on here that you draw a seam line around all four sides of the little squares. I have a misshaped pincushion. and some of the squares don't match up on the finished pieces.some are more rectangular in shape now. doh!.

Is there a reason that you do not see the seam allowance?
@kristinesser Жыл бұрын
It's the traditional way to handpiece. I think there are a few reasons. The first is that it gives you all the possibilities when you press--you can press to whatever side works for you! The other may be that if you stitch the seam allowance down, you would be hand sewing through multiple layers of fabric--which is harder with hand sewing. It feels strange at first, but you can really get nice seam intersections this way!

Just discovered the hand pieced quilt along and signed up. I love hand piecing. . . . until six or eight pieces come together into one menacing “I dare you” point!! Help!
