This is so interesting. For the longest time, I thought ketamine was the same as angel dust and so I associated ketamine as a recreational drug. I have MDD and I rarely feel emotions at all. Depression is not all sadness, mine rarely is, and while I’m cognitively aware that the feeling of sadness sucks, I’m glad that I don’t often feel it

Heard about this from a anesthesiologist on KZbin who does live streams and promotes (well, I wouldn't directly say promote in the most direct sense, but he has positive disposition regarding this tranquilizer.) This type of drug due to it's beneficial psychotropic when administered to people diagnosed with ailments under the neurosis spectrum of diseases.

Speaking from experience, ketamine has no impact on OCD. I would recommend psychedelics as they are a mainly cognitive experience compared to ketamine which mostly has somatic effects

This is no surprise at all. Ketamine was approved for depression after one trial showed a statistically significant effect. Before that there were 5 trials that did not find a statistically significant effect. This is simply p-hacking. Just repeat the trial until you get the desired outcome. The effect was low at cohens d = 0.3. That's 1/3 the effect of aspirin on headaches. Quite likely there is no effect at all, as all blinding is broken. Edit: should have watched the whole vid first. /facepalm

@@A_Psych_Nurse it's a measure of how far apart two distributions are. Roughly: difference in means divided by a pooled standard deviation. If you think of it in terms of height, cohens d = 0.3 is like growing 1 inch. It does not turn a small person tall. For comparision the effect of sex on size is 2. Men are about 2 standard deviations taller than women. Measures of efficacy are often missing from psyhopharmacology research. Instead they often abbreviate statistically significant to significant. Those are not the same.

hah! okay, maybe it wasn't clear--so they did receive saline water injected as the "placebo" but they also received anesthetic as well since they were going under general anesthesia. So they may not have been able to tell as easily as we might think.

@@A_Psych_Nurse why would they go under anesthesia? That totally defeats the purpose of injecting them with ketamine in this scenario. You have to experience the dissociation in order for it to affect you in any way

When ketamine &/or psych meds ADDRESS & RESOLVE THE ENVIRONMENTAL TRIGGERS that cause mental health conditions, then I'll reconsider. Until then; it's not happening w/me.

I know people who have perfectly good lives with loving parents. They’re still depressed somehow. I don’t think there is a cure for being ungrateful

@@reddbendd W/all due respect, I believe that u have somewhat misconstrued what I've said. It's not so much a family issue; it more has 2 do w/in a social structure. For example; a school student getting bullied & harassed by other students & the student being bullied brings the situation 2 a teacher's attention. The teacher's reply (most often); "Ignore it" (w/o dealing w/it 2 avoid future similar incidents). As if the student being bullied "brought it upon himself/herself". When that happens, the student being bullied gets prescribed psych meds 2 "control" his/her behavior & the students who provoked the situation get away "scot-free". From THAT stance, psych meds nor Ketamine DO NOT ADDRESS NOR RESOLVE CONFLICT (including abuse, bullying, & harassment committed against some1 by other people)!!!!! Conflict is a MAJOR TRIGGER of mental health conditions (including depression). Conflict is an ENVIRONMENTAL (NOT CHEMICAL) IMBALANCE!!!!!

@@billybandyk0720 yes, there are always certain causal factors related to the etiology of psychopathologies. My favorite rhyme so far. For the specific problem of bullying, one could go so far as to remain stoic. Or switch schools? Moving is hard on some kids but I really enjoyed moving. It’s unfortunate that the modern day health system relies so much on atomistic theories of biological reductionism and how widespread medicalization has become. My bully got stabbed with a pen when he decided to take a swing at me. There’s honestly a lot of ways to resolve that situation and none of them are psych meds

@@reddbendd Completely agreed RE: solving problems w/o psych meds. Although NOT a psych med, Ketamine would do no better 4 me. Hence; the premise of my comment. W/that said; it does vary from each individual. We r in lockstep there.
