The keto breads that you find online tend to be pretty expensive, so naturally people are going to be curious about the less expensive breads at places like Wal*Mart. In this video, I review three different loaves: two from Lewis and one from Brownberry (Orowheat on the west coast; Arnold on the east coast). I also do blood glucose testing to see what impact, if any, that they have.

If you notice the morning glucose spike on this video's thumbnail, that had an interesting cause. I was pulling on a t-shirt as I was walking out of my bedroom and hit my elbow on the doorframe hard enough to leave a mark. It definitely rated a 9 out of 10 on the pain scale and per the Levels software for my continuous glucose monitor, I had a 36 mg/dL spike in my glucose. Wild stuff... Also, the reason I do these glucose tests on some videos (even though I'm not diabetic) is that I feel that these tests are still relevant. First, if a product spikes my glucose as a non-diabetic, I think it would be concerning to a diabetic. Second, maintaining a level blood glucose is important to metabolic health whether your diabetic or not.

I have to be honest with you, the companies who are trying to appeal to the Keto Community, we are concerned about our health, so when you put in unhealthy ingredients, well, a true Keto person just puts it back on the shelf. Soy Oil, Canola, Cotton Seed Oil, etc are not healthy oils !!!

I have to tell you. I had bought the Lewis Healthy Life Keto Bread 2 days ago. That night I made for dinner 2 slices toasted. Then I spread half of a small Hass Avacado on top. On top of one toast I put scrambled egg and top the other toast with a soft boiled egg. By morning I did not feel good at all. Trying to figure it out I tested my glucose and it was 130. My chest hurt and my glucose stayed at 130 for hours before it started to come back down some...115. I drank 2 glasses of water forced myself to exercise and go walking. My husband walked with me concerned. Then I saw this video and I felt so betrayed by Lewis Co. for using bad ingredients that actually are bad for people. Thank you for caring and help weeding out (false products) as I call it. Thank You, Bless you and your family.

I am with you in that I preferred darker breads such as wheat, rye, pumpernickel, etc. when I ate bread (over 5 years ago). My downfall on the bread was the Hawaiian rolls and homemade bread (I used to be very good at baking bread). I keep some commercial keto bread in the freezer in case I have a craving, that doesn't happen too often. Your testing is very informative and definitely helps me make decisions on bread products.

I eat 5 slices of the zero carb Lewis bread daily. I've been on Keto for 5 months, and so far I've lost 48 lbs. I'm not diabetic, but I started my journey at 307 lbs. So, I was pre-diabetic. My new doctor did my blood-work and said my sugar is "normal", and my cholesterol is "good". (This was right around Valentine's Day). I think it depends on the person as to how one's body reacts. I admit I use it as a crutch. But, when I started Keto on August 30, 2021, I had someone drop me off in front of whatever store I needed to shop in. If there weren't any electronic shopping carts, I'd call them to come and pick me back up. Now, I drive myself to the store. I never use an electronic cart, and I walk all over the store without needing a rest break.

Only a plain blood glucose monitor. I am Canadian so I am familiar with Mmol vs the points Americans use. I’m not diabetic but I think it’s like 4-7 points that’s normal. Would you have any idea how big a spike in mmol would be considered insignificant vs moderate ? Maybe like 2/10’s of a point? Btw I pronounce it tumor-ic too. The ingredients are so much better for the body - almond flour, coconut flour, avocado or coconut oil. The idea is to keep the inflammation down. My mom is 86 too. Thanks for saving me the time of looking at those. Wheat anything causes a reaction and I am having success making the eggwhite protein variations from Indigo Nili. Arrowroot, butter powder, whole egg powder and now the psyllium or oat fiber are all making it interesting as I experiment with which I add and the amounts. I have not ended up with anything inedible and I like the toast test too - if it browns and gets a little crunch factor it makes me happy for a breakfast sandwich or just plain with butter. There are so many companies trying but few are wheat or gluten free (unBun did it but I did not care for the texture of those). I appreciate all the testing you do - I am sure many learn from what you find and can make better choices for themselves.

(Harry here) Yeah, we bought our share of store-bought keto bread in the beginning and all I can say is "We make our own bread" I understand why your blood sugar count went up. Yeah, the ingredients of this bread is nuts. I unlike you love white bread In fact, I'm on my way to the kitchen to have a slice right now. It took a long time to come up with a bread that really comes close to white bread, in fact, today is a hamburger day and I'm using buns that wendy made for the hamburger bun. So watching this video was FANTASTIC because it just updates my knowledge on buying keto bread. Thanks . Oh yeah, when you said cotton seed oil I gringed.

Hey Harry! Just getting ready to mention you guys! I know you have bread recipes that use different ingredients according to your needs which is great, so people don't give up, you will find the one you like if you keep trying because the effort is worth it to find a recipe you will eat forever and know its good for you and won't cause you pain. So thanks to all you bread gurus out there and those who test bread for us like Serious Keto.

So, you are saying your own home-made bread recipes do not spike or consistently raise your blood sugar? I have been thinking of buying a bread maker. Reading reviews now, on the best for gluten free, and low carb breads. I guess some handle these recipes better than others.

I've been Keto for 6 years now and have tried just about every "Keto" bread on the market (and just about every other Keto product for that matter). This video affirms my experience that Keto bread is not a "set it and forget it" Keto food item when it comes to reliance on net carb theory. I've experienced the same with Carb Smart tortillas as well. I tell all people who go Keto to test, test, and test some more when it comes to different kinds of food. Make notes of what works best for you regarding glucose spike management. You will also find that everyone is a little different. What might spike my blood sugar, may not spike yours, and vice versa. Conversely, some foods you think for sure will spike you don't, while others you think are safe do. The same caution regarding net carb theory should also be applied to Keto sweets, in my experience. An interesting variable you could add to the bread tests is take a glucose reading with eating the bread alone, then add a protein to it and test again. I realize that is a sandwich test, but the protein sometimes helps to temper the spike. You may have already done some of this on other videos. Enjoy your content.

I agree with that. I'm currently more low carb than keto, and started with Atkins over 20 years ago. But, I will incorporate other things when they work for me. Years ago, Dreamfields pasta promoted themselves as having a proprietary method of suppressing glucose spikes, although their carb count is pretty high. I've tested, and for me, Dreamfields works. But, I still want to try both Steve and Keto Asian's pasta when I can afford the specialty ingredients. Definitely test, test, test if someone wants to give the Dreamfields a try.

Can you interpret the data a bit Steve? Meaning, "the blood glucose spike"? Does that mean you're knocked out of ketosis? I don't have the inflammation reaction to those ingredients and am not a zealot about dirty keto. 2 slices, maybe, in a week, usually on a very Chef'y (Kerrygold butter, fancy deli cut cheeses, flake salt in the butter) grilled cheese with the Lewis plain is next level! Also, do you have a category "Top 10" type of list; like which store bought bread do you recommend? Thanks!
