A delicious and crispy appetizer that is keto and low carb friendly! This egg roll is filled with veggies and ground pork and wrapped in a tofu skin (yuba) and deep fried. We will also make a keto-friendly sweet chili sauce for dipping.
Ingredients:
1 cup shredded cabbage
1/4 cup shredded carrots
1 tbsp mince garlic
Tofu skin (3.8g carbs) Not all tofu skins are made equally, make sure to find the ones with lowest carbs.
1/2 lb ground pork
1/2 tablespoon oyster sauce (2.5g carb)
2 tablespoon soy sauce
Dash white pepper
Low carb sweet chili sauce
1 tbsp red chili flakes
2 tbsp monkfruit sweetener or sugar substitutes
1/4 cup water
1 tbsp white vinegar
1 tsp xanthan gum
dash of salt

I've been searching online for a keto spring roll wrapper. This is just fantastic! The bean curd *tofu" wrapper is available at my local Asian store. I have one in my freezer, and I got it to make a chinese kikiam recipe. I am so excited to use it for spring roll! Great video. Thank you! I just now subscribed to your channel!

I've been making a very similar and relatively inexpensive sweet chili sauce for years. I prefer allulose-based sweeteners for condiments, sauces, compotes and jams so that crystallization does not occur. I also recommend making a very large batch and splitting it into jars to freeze - which it does very well. The xanthum gum continues to thicken over time so you would need far less than 1 teaspoon per 1/4 cup of water. For the above filling, we soy avoiders would use coconut aminos to sub for the soy sauce and mushroom powder or unfortified nutritional yeast or Red Boat fish sauce (no carbs) for the umami. We can make the skins ourselves using non-nut keto flours (lupin, coconut, carbalose, bamboo) and eggs, it is just very time consuming. As with the above skins, the filling needs to be cooked because the skins brown/crisp incredible fast. An alternative dipping sauce more like duck sauce is easily made from a low carb stone fruit jam (like apricot), vinegar, dash of coconut aminos (or soy sauce), water, sweetener (or keto honey sub) - heated and mixed in a small pot or in a bowl in the microwave. Yours looks great - I just wish I could save myself the work by using soy - even non-GMO soy once in a while. Thanks from a very challenged keto-eating person who must avoid soy (estrogen receptive cancer), fake folate (MTHFR), sugar (diabetes), and nuts (allergies) for medical reasons!

That looks fantastic! *edit update* ----I bought the skins at the asian store but were so dry & brittle they cracked. --- I thought I could use guar gum in place of xanthan gum... big mistake as it made my egg hard like dry scrambled egg. ---- word to the wise, follow recipes exactly.... and try to find good bean curd/tofu skins.

This is the best thing I've seen. I am missing spring rolls. Egg rolls. Allllll Chinese food since starting keto. I could not find the wrappers you used but I found the original soy wrappers. Would those work. Omg. Wish you were my friend and cooking me dinner. Lol. Thanks for the video and I hope you answer my question. Ty again. ❤ wish I could add a picture. They are very thin paper like and called sushi party original soy wrappers. I seen comments of people making sushi and spring rolls with them. Just wanted your opinion. Hi thank you for your comment! I’ve never tried the soy wrapper before but you can def experiment. You should def soak it with some water first to rehydrate it so it will roll better. Not sure how it will turn out when you fry it but please let me know!

So wish I could try these but I have a soy allergy. The filling looks great though. I may try to roll it and fry in a chicken skin!

Great idea! There’s this product called Moo Gloo that is like a meat glue that I’ve used to make chicken skin egg rolls that helps seal the skin together.

A pack yields about 20 squares but it also depends on how big or small you want your eggrolls.

Can you make it with uncooked filling and then fry it? Can we freeze these for later?

I have not tried with uncooked fillings since cooking it is when you put all the flavors together. Also it helps you fry them faster without worrying about if it’s still raw inside. But you can definitely freeze these if you want to fry them later.

how does it turn out if you dont precook the meat? will the tofu wrappers burn?

You would have to fry it longer to cook the meat so yes there might be a chance of burning. You can fry it briefly and then bring it to an air fryer to finish to ensure the meat is cooked thoroughly.

Either hoisin sauce mixed with soy sauce or fish sauce mixed with some monkfruit sweetener or swerve brown sugar

great recipe BUT soya beans and canola oil are extremely inflamatory, so therefore no ideal in clean keto.

I am a soy avoider due to multiple estrogen receptive cancers, I've been experimenting making wrapper skins from lupin/coconut/keto flours and egg. It is a bit tedious but doable. Avocado or fractionated coconut oil would be preferred in clean keto but keto can still be done dirty and cheap.
