I also see the keto diet as a threat to the food industry which bases it's profits on value added products, highly processed foods and high carbohydrate meals. Imagine a future with only healthy options at restaurants, cafe's and grocery stores. But until the majority of the public realizes they are literally killing themselves with their diet they are going to keep on eating the wrong way.

The keto diet made me so "sick" that almost all my Metabolic Syndrome symptoms disappeared and people say I look 10 years younger. I lost 40 lbs and have kept it off since 2016. Triglycerides used to be almost 300 but dropped to under 70. HDL that was under 35 for 25+ years is now in the 60's. My blood pressure slightly elevated is the only part of the Metabolic Syndrome that I still have but I've reduced my BP meds by 75%. My vision even improved. Inflammation tested as CRP is less than .5. I am thrilled with how sick the results have been.

They always find a "Low-carb" study that shows slightly increased risk of all-cause mortality and cardiovascular disease. You know. Weak studies, that consider 50% of calories as carbs "low-carb". Then when the run out of things to say they insist "saturated fat and meat is bad". Which is absolutely baffling because they never isolated a biological pathway for supposed cancer and cardiovascular disease. The cholestorel is triggered by arterial injury and the cancer is caused by carcinogens in processed food. ie. smoke and and industrial chemicals D:

I went Keto about 5 years ago, and for the last 6-7 months have been mostly carnivore. I say mostly because I do still eat some low carb veggies, but very occasionally. I used to be 458 lbs., I was on Metformin and 300+ units of insulin per day, for 3 years I followed the Diabetic Nutritionists advice as close as humanly possible. It made me fatter and sicker than I had ever been in my life. My last bad A1C was in the 14's, and my highest one ever was in the 17's. I was going to go blind from Retinopathy and Macular Edema. I had a knee that needed replaced. I had all kind of problems. Today, the Retinopathy and Edema has quit getting any worse, and they have gotten a little better. NOTHING HURTS. So I had a cheat meal the other day, first one in a LONG time. Two Homegrown Potatoes, fried in bacon grease, with Keto Mayo and I had 2 handfuls of Raspberries, and two Hamburger patties with cheese, pickles and onions. When I was done I had a chocolate chip cookie. It was delicious. I took my Blood sugar ever half hour for the next 3 hours and the highest reading was 113 and the last reading was back to 98. The next day I went right back to carnivore, with no problems at all. I used to take 300 units of insulin per day and I was happy if my blood sugar got under 300. Is my diabetes cured. I think so. It definitely hasn't gotten worse. I EAT A TON of Saturated Fat too. The more reading I do, the more I am convinced that Seed Oils play a huge role in insulin resistance. Last time I weighed I had lost 201 lbs now. I am tall and I have a very thick muscle mass so 257 may be my normal weight. I will see. I don't care what my weight is as long as I feel good. Now I can fit on all the roller coasters as well.

I like the part you said about eating a ton of saturated fats..😉 Eating normal amounts of protein is good enough already for most people on a keto diet.. But definitely restrict carbohydrates! Another reason is a Keto diet is definitely cheaper than full carnivore. It will bring your glucose level right down with fasting and you will no longer be diabetic no more..😁

PCRM president and psychiatrist Neal Barnard's gunking up insulin receptor hypothesis is based on the false premise that free saturated fatty acids in the blood serum come from exogenous saturated fatty acids, that is from the SFA's you consume. But the type of SFA in blood serum is palmitate, and this is endogenous SFA made by the liver via denovo lipogenesis from excess carbs as Ben Bikman notes in this clip with on Dr. Hyman's podcast: kzbin.info/www/bejne/anzKfp6KndCnr5Ysi=atkUddrehBNXck3n Vegans keep pushing this false hypothesis by a psychiatrist because it fits their food religion. Michael Greger has redefined diabetes to mean the elevated insulin response which arises when someone on a keto diet has the standard glucose load as part of a glucose tolerance test. Vegans have a tricky choice - they could go with trying to make keto vegan - but it is hard to do - or they could attack keto. The problem is that veganism is a philosophy - based on their ethical position (which is fine for them) but here we have dogma driving the interpretation of science.

The standard glucose tolerance test should include a 3 day "high" carb eating before it (e.g. 50g, 100g, 150g), since case studies have shown that insulin response is normal for keto eaters after that adaptation edit: not to mention, the problem with diabetes is high blood glucose because of glucose toxicity, so it makes sense for diabetics to remove the toxin

@defeqel6537 I agree. But that still leaves the problem that testing a response to 50g of carbs is only important if you plan to eat 50g of carbs 6 times a day. Insulin resistance is not defined as "all cells in the body don't respond to insulin". If that would be the case, you would die quickly. Maybe it is a bit like making a 50g of alcohol response test and every one who fails it is deemed sick and everyone who passes it is healthy. 50g are also arbitrary as are the expected responses. Why not test 5 grams or 150 grams? Would be more realistic for people on certain diets. A pre diabetic would probably fail the 5g test and most people would fail the 150g test.

I have a Phd and Masters from UCL(UK)in Human biology and chemistry and Im just really shocked at the ignorance from this vegan doctor. Im so shocked because her answers are not even logical according to basic understanding of GED human biology, chemistry and Nutrition. The main cause of Diabetes type 2 and obesity is exactly insulin resistance, in the absence of insulin we cannot store fat.(actually we always have a little bit)because the blood contains about 4grams of sugar in about 8-10 pints of blood normally, frankly anything higher than that will cause insulin to rise.Thats why I don't agree with too many meals a days only want my patients to have 2 meals a day separated by at least 4 hours to allow MTOR and sugar/insulin levels to return to baseline. This Vegan doctor is actually contradicting herself, theres ONLY Protein,FAT and carbohydrates in the food group, actually all plant matter is cellulose which is sugar!the body has a wonderfully efficient system for processing fat but a flawed system for Sugars and carbohydrates, actually sugar, fructose and carbohydrates are really all the same chemistry and biologically, its only the speed at which they impact the body.If you think that once slice of white bread has 25 grams of carbohydrates, which will have more or less the same effect long term as eating 25 grams of sugar, now you get the idea of how the constant toxic assault of sugar in various forms actually destroys the body, high sugar intake is toxic to the human body and all organs.Im really shocked at the educational ignorance of this"Vegan Doctor"because what she is saying makes no logical sense and im 58 years old and worked in human sciences for over 30 years.

So the tests are likely flawed since all parties would be eating similar amounts of unsaturated fats reguardless Not that the research was very convincing to begin with. The idea that ancient people didn't live to old age is possibly a myth, a pretty harmful myth at that. I never bothered to check my claim they didn't live to old age and there's enough references to such old ancient people I think I couldn't put it up to luck.

I was suffering from brain fog, gut issues, had a lot of heart palpitations, and experienced anxiety most of the day. The list goes on. I remember how i was always tired when i was a teen/young adult..then you kinda get used to it and think this is how everybody feels... Between 2019 and 2020, I had two kids, and since then, we had the flu-like symptoms every two weeks, including coronavirus. The worst was hand, foot, and mouth disease. A couple of months later, I was diagnosed with LADA diabetes and was put on insulin. I said to my family, 'I won't lie down in the fire.' The first thing I did was quit eating any grain products. I immediately noticed an improvement in my blood sugar levels. Then, I started reducing my carbohydrate intake, against my doctor's and my country's medical advice. A couple of months later, I didn't need to take any insulin. My blood sugar has been near perfect with no significant spikes, etc. I have to say that I have never felt this good; my mental clarity has improved a lot. I no longer have anxiety, i have great focus and I have the energy to do everything I want. And all of this is thanks to the ketogenic diet! And btw im soon 33 and i have never felt so good :)

They said to never attribute to malice what can be explained by stupidity/ignorance/incompetence, but... This woman said that keto will make numbers look better while keeping the underlying cause intact (and even making the person sicker), forcing the person to stay on medications. But doctors who work with low-carb diets are amazed at how much they can decrease medication. If she's making a video on this subject, you'd think she'd have given it enough research to know that. So... it's either extreme malice (telling people that a diet that could save their lives is bad for them), or extreme incompetence. And in this day and age, it's really hard to tell which.

By her argument, if I was suffering from arsenic poisoning due to consumption of arsenic, and I stopped consuming the arsenic, I would only be in 'arsenic poisoning remission'; I would not have reversed my arsenic poisoning because if I started to consume it again, my arsenic poisoning would return. A ridiculous argument. Sugar is just the same; too much sugar is toxic (the poison is i n the dose). So if I can reverse my arsenic poisoning by not consuming arsenic, then the same goes for sugar.

Not to mention, most former diabetics on keto actually can transition to eating more carbs, it depends on how long and bad diabetes they had before, ie. whether their pancreas is still capable of creating insulin. They only need to transition over a few days, a sudden influx of glucose is bad for a keto dieter.

Yes it's very worrying, as people in authority that are pushed to the front are never challenged on their beliefs/opinions. I've noticed that 90% of people just regurgitate what they hear on mainstream news or social media, without ever trying out or researching deeply for themselves. There are a lot of anti nutrients in some plants like lectins, oxalates, solanine etc that are there to stop humans eating them. Indigenous tribes would have a very hard time just prospering from plants alone, as the calories needed for sustainability would never meet their requirements. The food pyramid we are taught to follow is so fraudulent, it made me wonder. I've come to the conclusion this was designed to make and keep us sick by the food and pharmaceutical industries, as they are owned by the same people.

So can someone clear something up for me? The one thing that made sense to me that she said was that keto doesn't cure diabetes. He refuted that by saying your blood sugar is normal and therefore you're cured. The problem is, her logic makes MUCH more sense to me. Just because your blood sugar is low while you're not eating sugar doesn't mean your diabetes is cured. Yes, as long as you stay perfectly on the diet and never stop, the negative effects of diabetes won't affect you - but if you were to go back to eating some sugar you'd still be diabetic unlike a normal healthy individual that can eat sugar without serious adverse effects. That's not curing diabetes - that's learning to live with it. That's like someone with celiac's disease saying they cured it by no longer eating gluten. No, you still have celiacs and you'll still get sick if you eat gluten again. You're not cured, you're just living with the disease. Am I missing something here?

Good to hear someone who knows what they are talking about. I started an atkins diet 30 years ago allowing myself 12 carbs per day. In truth I'm not a diabetic but my blood sugar stays at the bottom of the recommended range. My triglycerides have been as low as 45 and my hdl is 60+. I'd like to make a couple of points here. One low carb intakes don't make you lose weight. Controlling your calorie intake allows you to lose weight. A low carb diet allows your system to burn fats for energy because without carbs you'd run out of energy if you couldn't process fats for energy. Along with that low carb diets reduce your appetite making it easier to eat less and therefore lose weight. I'm 74 now and my doctor has been on to me about my ldl which is high, not outrageously high but high non the less. I finally went to my cardiologist and he gave me a speech about how ldl can stick to calcium deposits and cause heart attacks. He had me take an mri stress test last month and it came back negative for blockages. I put the fact that I'm still here and active down to my low carb diet. My cardiologist approved of my low carb diet and even went as far as to say diet has little effect on ldl levels.

The only way for WFPB diet to work is with zero added fats. You have to aim for 10-15% calories from fat. That makes it too hard to eat out at restaurants because they are always cooking the vegan foods with fats and oils. Most studies and articles about "low fat" diets are about diets with 20% or more calorie from fat, so they are irrelevant. You have to cook your veggies in water, not oils. But since you're still eating carbs, you still tend to be always hungry and still craving sugar. And then there's all the bloating and gas. Keto/carnivore is just easier for me and it's a lot easier to eat outside of home.

I can now eat carbs again without the resulting high blood sugar spike and lingering high sugar readings. I still limit my carb intake (technically I carb cycle) because I feel better on keto but when I celebrate or do some comfort eating my sugars dont spike as high as they use to and return to sub 100 levels quickly. Seems like evidence for increased insulin sensitivity to me, but I dunno how to be sure of that.

When I switched to mostly plant-based, and avoided meat, ate my biggest meal at midday, I started snacking and storing fat again. Sighhh. Strict low carb I can do. OMAD I can do. The typical “healthy” high carb foods diet .. i just can’t handle it (yet if ever). Maybe I have leptin resistance but I don’t reach satiety with carbs except from volume.
