Dr. Robert Atkins literally uses the word "ketosis" many, many times in his book and describes it as the guiding principle of his diet. It's where I first heard the word ketosis and learned what it is. Atkins is a ketogenic diet because "Ketogenic" is not a brand, it's a bio chemistry term.

TotPYsera Atkins is not a ketogenic diet.... Atkins uses protein macros for fuel, not fat.
@BoELoot
@BoELoot 6 жыл бұрын
No, it doesn't. I don't know where you people keep hearing this incorrect information but it's wrong. You can kinda use protein for "fuel", sort of, but you couldn't base a diet around the metabolic pathway by which protein can be used for fuel. First of all, it would be ridiculously hard to eat that much protein. If you're using protein as fuel, something is very wrong and you will likely be visiting the hospital in the near future. A "ketogenic" diet, is a diet that uses "ketogenesis" as its core mechanism. Again, this is a term from bio-science, not brand marketing. "Ketogenesis" has nothing to do with either fat or protein. The macronutrient responsible for inducing ketosis is "carbohydrates" and it is what happens when you restrict them. All you have to do to be on a "ketogenic" diet is restrict your carbohydrate intake for a few days or more, and you'll be in ketosis. That's it. Starvation is a "ketogenic" diet. Atkins is absolutely a "ketogenic" diet.

The original Atkins diet, as Dr Atkins intended it was based on studies he had discovered in the 60s. If you read his book written in 1972, net carbs did not exist. He recommended only about 10g of any carbs. This is why it helped those with seizures or other conditions, as well as weight loss. You should get educated on this if you're going to talk about the history of keto and not share equally about Atkins.

I lost 80 lbs in a year on keto. But at some point I plateau’d hard. I just couldn’t reduce my protein enough to not be hungry, and I cant really afford to buy the expensive fat supplements to actually make my meals filling. It did me wonders, but ultimately my plateau just felt like it was pointless to continue. Ive maintained the weight loss which is great, but I’d still like to lose more.

On a third day of keto diet I nearly died from critically low sugar. I woke up at night, my vision was blurry, I was sweating and my heart was pounding. Luckily I know a bit about medicine, so I realised what's happening. Somehow I managed to get to the kitchen and grab a spoon of sugar. Then I got much better. I think you guys absolutely must talk through the side effects and possible warnings when promoting anything.

Could it be the withdrawal of sugar effects? I’m just wondering as you caved and ate a spoonful of sugar only on the 3rd day ?? I mean, it’s to be a expected especially if one is use to eating high sugar content everyday. Your body still needs to adjust to the new eating habits.
@sofiadesora9806

@@yadanada4106 Yes, that's all correct, but not if your sugar gets critically low. If it's below that mark and you get all those symptoms (blurry vision and etc), you have roughly half an hour to fix it (by taking a sugar). If you don't, then the next step is that you faint and shortly after die. Google it if you don't believe me. And this is why I think people need to be warned about it - critically low sugar can be dangerous. Many people don't know about it and just jump into this diet without realising all dangers.

@@sofiadesora9806 this is why it's important to not go extreme on this diet and to eat the right kinds of foods. Here's the main differences I found between the two. (most are actually doing Atkins diet plan when they think they're doing Keto without knowing it)., or parhaps Atkins should just be called Keto since it's technically ketogenic with similar carbs count).. They both focus on ketosis, high fat, moderate protein, and very low carbs (20 to 25 carbs a day being most common for both). So they seem pretty much the same, but here's the big difference: Keto also focuses on calorie restriction and reducing meals and time between meals whereas Atkins doesn't. This is because Atkins didn't want you to feel hungry, and once you're ketogenic, you natrually tend to eat less anyways.. I also believe he didnt want to body to go into starvation mode.. So three meals a day and even snacks wwere okay if you're hungry, if you crave food.. Whereas Keto today, wants you to eat less meals and often tie it with fastings, to reduce calories.. Whether this slows down your metabolism, I'm not sure. So whether one shoudl focus on calories while being low carb, that's what I"m not sure which is correct..

Maybe they're burning the fat they eat in large amounts instead of burning the fat they have stored. Keto people always complain they're not losing weight and to eat more butter and fat bombs to lose weight. I got loads of fat bombs in my thighs that needs to be burned🤷🏻‍♀️ My dietician had me on a diet close to Atkins, but when I asked what my fat intake should be, she told me, "whatever fat you eat is less fat you burn off your body". She still encouraged eating fat though because it causes satiety and de-programmed us from the damaged thinking low fat diets caused. She's treating obese people and we all have great results, so I think she knows something. She did give me a target for carbs (25 grams a day or less) and a target for protein (90-120grams per day to prevent muscle mass loss). Taught us how to eat and control "head hunger", because a lot of us eat for reasons other than hunger (because we're sad, bored, stressed). But the diet itself is pretty much the same thing as Atkins, and it worked. I lost 120 pounds and have kept it off for 7 years.

Fish oil with DHA and EPA Omega 3s will help with cholesterol. Also... when doing a keto/Atkins diet it is totally possible to watch what kind of fats you eat. Try to avoid heavy doses of saturated fats and trans fats are a fast track to a heart attack. As stated in the video, you can add protein and reduce fat and still be in ketosis. Probably with a lower ketone count, but that's ok because protein Carrie's 4 calories a gram and fat carries 9 calories a gram. So while your metabolism isnt burning calories as fast, it also isn't taking as many calories in

Oh the cholesterol thing. When you say, cholesterol, are you meaning "total cholesterol?" or the HDL/Trig ratio (which is a better but not full indication of heart health) or the LDL. In the Women's Health Initiative, by eating a low-fat diet, the women in the control group lowered their LDL -- and they also had a higher or equal incidence of cardiovascular disease and all-cause mortality. The Minnesota Coronary Study was a study of over 9k people with controlled diets. They removed saturated fats from their diets and replaced it with a form of corn oil. This lowered all patients' LDL, but increased cardiovascular disease, strokes and all cause mortality. The Sydney Diet Heart Study focused on men who replaced saturated fat with a form of soybean oil. All subjects had a decline in LDL. They also had a 62% increased risk of heart attack and a 70% increased risk of dying. LDL was lowered, but the risk of heart disease and dying increased. Is lowering the LDL really in the best interest of our health?

Thomas was tripping on this one. First off, you clearly get ketosis as long as carbs are very low. Second, he talks about keeping protein relatively low with bad references. For example, he refers to a steak as too lean for keto... but most good cuts are roughly 1-1 fat to protein. Well, fat is over double the calories to protein, so you are at something like 2.2-1 ratio of fat to protein, calorie wise. Keto is something like 70% fat by definition, that steak is almost perfect. Please do not start eating coconut oil by itself based off this video.

I stay away from them because of the sugar alcohol content. While it's true that sugar alcohols have far less impact on blood glucose levels and insulin levels than regular carbs, they do account for some..... and they are still calories to be burned. Instead of just not counting sugar alcohols at all I usually count 1 carb for every 2 sugar alcohol. And of course..... fiber is a freebie. You can subtract fiber from the total amount of carbs because it is typically insoluble

If you want people to understand the physiology of the keto-diet, maybe you should explain it a bit more clear... You're talking fast and it's not making sense. Just because fasting is good, because you get in a state of ketosis, doesn't mean it's healthy to be in this state all the time. It's a state in which your body can clean up, get rid of some damages cells, bacteria, etc... Just by fasting 16 hours a day I can give my body time to clean up. The rest of the day I eat a whole food (plant-based) diet so I get all the vitamins and minerals I need. Also the ones in whole grains.

Revelation 16 ► New King James Version The Seven Bowls 1Then I heard a loud voice from the temple saying to the seven angels, “Go and pour out the [a]bowls of the wrath of God on the earth.” First Bowl: Loathsome Sores 2So the first went and poured out his bowl upon the earth, and a [b]foul and loathsome sore came upon the men who had the mark of the beast and those who worshiped his image. Second Bowl: The Sea Turns to Blood 3Then the second angel poured out his bowl on the sea, and it became blood as of a dead man; and every living creature in the sea died. Third Bowl: The Waters Turn to Blood 4Then the third angel poured out his bowl on the rivers and springs of water, and they became blood. 5And I heard the angel of the waters saying: “You are righteous, [c]O Lord, The One who is and who [d]was and who is to be, Because You have judged these things. 6For they have shed the blood of saints and prophets, And You have given them blood to drink. [e]For it is their just due.” 7And I heard [f]another from the altar saying, “Even so, Lord God Almighty, true and righteous are Your judgments.” Fourth Bowl: Men Are Scorched 8Then the fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and power was given to him to scorch men with fire. 9And men were scorched with great heat, and they blasphemed the name of God who has power over these plagues; and they did not repent and give Him glory. Fifth Bowl: Darkness and Pain 10Then the fifth angel poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast, and his kingdom became full of darkness; and they gnawed their tongues because of the pain. 11They blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores, and did not repent of their deeds. Sixth Bowl: Euphrates Dried Up 12Then the sixth angel poured out his bowl on the great river Euphrates, and its water was dried up, so that the way of the kings from the east might be prepared. 13And I saw three unclean spirits like frogs coming out of the mouth of the dragon, out of the mouth of the beast, and out of the mouth of the false prophet. 14For they are spirits of demons, performing signs, which go out to the kings [g]of the earth and of the whole world, to gather them to the battle of that great day of God Almighty. 15“Behold, I am coming as a thief. Blessed is he who watches, and keeps his garments, lest he walk naked and they see his shame.” 16And they gathered them together to the place called in Hebrew, [h]Armageddon. Seventh Bowl: The Earth Utterly Shaken 17Then the seventh angel poured out his bowl into the air, and a loud voice came out of the temple of heaven, from the throne, saying, “It is done!” 18And there were noises and thunderings and lightnings; and there was a great earthquake, such a mighty and great earthquake as had not occurred since men were on the earth. 19Now the great city was divided into three parts, and the cities of the nations fell. And great Babylon was remembered before God, to give her the cup of the wine of the fierceness of His wrath. 20Then every island fled away, and the mountains were not found. 21And great hail from heaven fell upon men, each hailstone about the weight of a talent. Men blasphemed God because of the plague of the hail, since that plague was exceedingly great. Revelation 18 ► New King James Version Par ▾ The Fall of Babylon the Great 1After these things I saw another angel coming down from heaven, having great authority, and the earth was illuminated with his glory. 2And he cried [a]mightily with a loud voice, saying, “Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and has become a dwelling place of demons, a prison for every foul spirit, and a cage for every unclean and hated bird! 3For all the nations have drunk of the wine of the wrath of her fornication, the kings of the earth have committed fornication with her, and the merchants of the earth have become rich through the [b]abundance of her luxury.” 4And I heard another voice from heaven saying, “Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues. 5For her sins [c]have reached to heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities. 6Render to her just as she rendered [d]to you, and repay her double according to her works; in the cup which she has mixed, mix double for her. 7In the measure that she glorified herself and lived [e]luxuriously, in the same measure give her torment and sorrow; for she says in her heart, ‘I sit as queen, and am no widow, and will not see sorrow.’ 8Therefore her plagues will come in one day-death and mourning and famine. And she will be utterly burned with fire, for strong is the Lord God who [f]judges her. The World Mourns Babylon’s Fall 9“The kings of the earth who committed fornication and lived luxuriously with her will weep and lament for her, when they see the smoke of her burning, 10standing at a distance for fear of her torment, saying, ‘Alas, alas, that great city Babylon, that mighty city! For in one hour your judgment has come.’ 11“And the merchants of the earth will weep and mourn over her, for no one buys their merchandise anymore: 12merchandise of gold and silver, precious stones and pearls, fine linen and purple, silk and scarlet, every kind of citron wood, every kind of object of ivory, every kind of object of most precious wood, bronze, iron, and marble; 13and cinnamon and incense, fragrant oil and frankincense, wine and oil, fine flour and wheat, cattle and sheep, horses and chariots, and bodies and souls of men. 14The fruit that your soul longed for has gone from you, and all the things which are rich and splendid have [g]gone from you, and you shall find them no more at all. 15The merchants of these things, who became rich by her, will stand at a distance for fear of her torment, weeping and wailing, 16and saying, ‘Alas, alas, that great city that was clothed in fine linen, purple, and scarlet, and adorned with gold and precious stones and pearls! 17For in one hour such great riches [h]came to nothing.’ Every shipmaster, all who travel by ship, sailors, and as many as trade on the sea, stood at a distance 18and cried out when they saw the smoke of her burning, saying, ‘What is like this great city?’ 19“They threw dust on their heads and cried out, weeping and wailing, and saying, ‘Alas, alas, that great city, in which all who had ships on the sea became rich by her wealth! For in one hour she [i]is made desolate.’ 20“Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you [j]holy apostles and prophets, for God has avenged you on her!” Finality of Babylon’s Fall 21Then a mighty angel took up a stone like a great millstone and threw it into the sea, saying, “Thus with violence the great city Babylon shall be thrown down, and shall not be found anymore. 22The sound of harpists, musicians, flutists, and trumpeters shall not be heard in you anymore. No craftsman of any craft shall be found in you anymore, and the sound of a millstone shall not be heard in you anymore. 23The light of a lamp shall not shine in you anymore, and the voice of bridegroom and bride shall not be heard in you anymore. For your merchants were the great men of the earth, for by your sorcery all the nations were deceived. 24And in her was found the blood of prophets and saints, and of all who were slain on the earth.” Revelation 4-20 The Saints Reign with Christ 1,000 Years 4And I saw thrones, and they sat on them, and judgment was committed to them. Then I saw the souls of those who had been beheaded for their witness to Jesus and for the word of God, who had not worshiped the beast or his image, and had not received his mark on their foreheads or on their hands. And they lived and reigned with Christ for [a]a thousand years. 5But the rest of the dead did not live again until the thousand years were finished. This is the first resurrection. 6Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years.

Most people stay in ketosis up to 50g of net carbs per day though. Phase 1 of Atkins is 20g of net carbs per day or less. Keto is higher fat while Atkins is higher protein, both will get you in ketosis, it really comes down to what you prefer to eat.

Revelation 13 ► New King James Version The Beast from the Sea 1Then [a]I stood on the sand of the sea. And I saw a beast rising up out of the sea, having [b]seven heads and ten horns, and on his horns ten crowns, and on his heads a blasphemous name. 2Now the beast which I saw was like a leopard, his feet were like the feet of a bear, and his mouth like the mouth of a lion. The dragon gave him his power, his throne, and great authority. 3And I saw one of his heads as if it had been mortally wounded, and his deadly wound was healed. And all the world marveled and followed the beast. 4So they worshiped the dragon who gave authority to the beast; and they worshiped the beast, saying, “Who is like the beast? Who is able to make war with him?” 5And he was given a mouth speaking great things and blasphemies, and he was given authority to [c]continue for forty-two months. 6Then he opened his mouth in blasphemy against God, to blaspheme His name, His tabernacle, and those who dwell in heaven. 7It was granted to him to make war with the saints and to overcome them. And authority was given him over every [d]tribe, tongue, and nation. 8All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world. 9If anyone has an ear, let him hear. 10He who leads into captivity shall go into captivity; he who kills with the sword must be killed with the sword. Here is the [e]patience and the faith of the saints. The Beast from the Earth 11Then I saw another beast coming up out of the earth, and he had two horns like a lamb and spoke like a dragon. 12And he exercises all the authority of the first beast in his presence, and causes the earth and those who dwell in it to worship the first beast, whose deadly wound was healed. 13He performs great signs, so that he even makes fire come down from heaven on the earth in the sight of men. 14And he deceives [f]those who dwell on the earth by those signs which he was granted to do in the sight of the beast, telling those who dwell on the earth to make an image to the beast who was wounded by the sword and lived. 15He was granted power to give breath to the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak and cause as many as would not worship the image of the beast to be killed. 16He causes all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hand or on their foreheads, 17and that no one may buy or sell except one who has [g]the mark or the name of the beast, or the number of his name. 18Here is wisdom. Let him who has understanding calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man: His number is 666. Revelation 14 ► New King James Version Par ▾ The Lamb and the 144,000 1Then I looked, and behold, [a]a Lamb standing on Mount Zion, and with Him one hundred and forty-four thousand, [b]having His Father’s name written on their foreheads. 2And I heard a voice from heaven, like the voice of many waters, and like the voice of loud thunder. And I heard the sound of harpists playing their harps. 3They sang as it were a new song before the throne, before the four living creatures, and the elders; and no one could learn that song except the hundred and forty-four thousand who were redeemed from the earth. 4These are the ones who were not defiled with women, for they are virgins. These are the ones who follow the Lamb wherever He goes. These were [c]redeemed from among men, being firstfruits to God and to the Lamb. 5And in their mouth was found no [d]deceit, for they are without fault [e]before the throne of God. The Proclamations of Three Angels 6Then I saw another angel flying in the midst of heaven, having the everlasting gospel to preach to those who dwell on the earth-to every nation, tribe, tongue, and people- 7saying with a loud voice, “Fear God and give glory to Him, for the hour of His judgment has come; and worship Him who made heaven and earth, the sea and springs of water.” 8And another angel followed, saying, “Babylon[f] is fallen, is fallen, that great city, because she has made all nations drink of the wine of the wrath of her fornication.” 9Then a third angel followed them, saying with a loud voice, “If anyone worships the beast and his image, and receives his mark on his forehead or on his hand, 10he himself shall also drink of the wine of the wrath of God, which is poured out full strength into the cup of His indignation. He shall be tormented with fire and brimstone in the presence of the holy angels and in the presence of the Lamb. 11And the smoke of their torment ascends forever and ever; and they have no rest day or night, who worship the beast and his image, and whoever receives the mark of his name.” 12Here is the [g]patience of the saints; here[h] are those who keep the commandments of God and the faith of Jesus. 13Then I heard a voice from heaven saying [i]to me, “Write: ‘Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.’ ” “Yes,” says the Spirit, “that they may rest from their labors, and their works follow them.” Reaping the Earth’s Harvest 14Then I looked, and behold, a white cloud, and on the cloud sat One like the Son of Man, having on His head a golden crown, and in His hand a sharp sickle. 15And another angel came out of the temple, crying with a loud voice to Him who sat on the cloud, “Thrust in Your sickle and reap, for the time has come [j]for You to reap, for the harvest of the earth is ripe.” 16So He who sat on the cloud thrust in His sickle on the earth, and the earth was reaped. Reaping the Grapes of Wrath 17Then another angel came out of the temple which is in heaven, he also having a sharp sickle. 18And another angel came out from the altar, who had power over fire, and he cried with a loud cry to him who had the sharp sickle, saying, “Thrust in your sharp sickle and gather the clusters of the vine of the earth, for her grapes are fully ripe.” 19So the angel thrust his sickle into the earth and gathered the vine of the earth, and threw it into the great winepress of the wrath of God. 20And the winepress was trampled outside the city, and blood came out of the winepress, up to the horses’ bridles, for one thousand six hundred [k]furlongs.
