IMO Keven was the most well rounded of all the Lannisters. He knew how to rule, receive income, lead armies, he could show mercy or show none, but he was also a family man, he loves his wife and children very much and is the only completely faithful Lannister. The perfect combination of Tyrion, Tywin, and Tytos' attributes. Too bad he was only given a few months (I don't know how long Cersei was in jail but he started ruling in truth then) before Varys noticed he was doing too good of a job
@Capt.DanInJapan9 ай бұрын
Kevan seems to be something of an understudy to Tywin. He lacks his older brother's stern nature and iron will but he is competent in every role he took to further the interests of House Lannister. Is he as effective as Tywin? Not exactly. He doesn't have the same aura of intimidation that the other Houses respect. But he was probably better balanced as a person.

@@Capt.DanInJapan Bro Tywin plunged the realm into all out war because he’s such a shit father he didn’t even know his own son and daughter were fucking since they were teenagers, and let his own men commit every single crime under the sun because “It’s just war” when he could’ve easily adverted bloodshed precisely because he was a stern commander and half the continent was terrified of him. He’s practically the worst scum in the story even worse than Ramsay. At least Ramsay became a disgusting psycho because of his upbringing since he was born. What was Tywin’s reason? Oh people laughed at him and his house, so now he’ll let women be raped, humiliated and murdered. Have children slaughtered by men who would kill him and fuck his corpse if he wasn’t a powerful lord. Tywin was a fucking disgrace not only to his family but to the entire world. Then when Cersei threw wine in his face Kevan had that bad ass line about how many Knights he can raise and feed and how people shouldn't want him for an enemy, right before he told Cersei he knows damn well Jaime is her children's father.

Kevan is a tragic character. We the readers all know what an asshole Tywin is, but really, can we really expect Kevan to despise his brother? As he told Tyrion when Tyrion was shocked Kevan loved Tywin, he is his brother. At the very least, in A Dance with Dragons, Kevan comes to regret the things he was forced to do under Tywin's leadership, but it came too late. Kevan was flawed, yes, but he truly was a good man. Kevan cheerfully went along with all of his brother's crimes and atrocities, with not a word to indicate he ever objected or tried to mitigate it. Tywin says he wants the Riverlands ablaze, and Kevan says "They will burn." Kevan has his niece marched naked through the city. He is aware of the crimes of Cersei and Jaime and keeps his mouth shut in hopes of profiting from it, because his son is being made a lord. Even the good that he ascribes to Tywin is basically nothing more than Lannister ego run amok. People were LAUGHING AT THEM! Oh no! Clearly mass murder is the only reasonable response. Also, given that Tywin is consistently shown as being greedy & hungry for power and pushing wherever he can, I think the Lannister narrative of a diligent and faithful councilor serving the realm and being undermined by a petty jealous king is a bit bullshit. Yes, Tywin did his level best and spent his own money on the crown's behalf, but Tywin does not do things without a reason, and it's pretty clear that his reason was getting more and more authority in the realm. The notion that he was the REAL ruler and not Aerys was the version of the story HE was putting out. It was his own guard captain who was caught spreading that version. He wanted Rhaegar to marry his daughter and took it as a given, as if there was no possible other course. Aerys might have been insane, but even the paranoid have enemies, and I think he saw Tywin's true colors, and that's why he made so many efforts to undermine Tywin and refused him greater power and punished Payne, to make it clear that Tywin could not protect even his own guard captain from Aerys' displeasure, to keep people from ignoring him and going to Tywin.

To set the Riverlands ablaze, unleasing ser Gregor and his bunch of murderers and rapists, and he didn't even use the Lannister banner, so Robert would not have clear proof (because he knew, if Robert found out Tywin broke his peace, he would have all kingdoms but Tywin's and Dorne, and if he Told Doran and Oberyn "I will give you Elia and her sister's children's murderers, and feel free to help" then all of Westeros would stand behind Robert (Balon burn't his fleet before, and would again, being an opportunist - Robert wasn't a drunken fool regarding war). His son were taken capture, yes. If he was a just man, he would demand the Stark's pay him gold he doesn't need, and demanded The Starks answer before the king, and Littlefinger's plot would unfold, and he would lose his head. It would still be an interesting story, because with all the might of the Seven Kingdoms, they coud kill some, or all, the dragons before they reach WMD size. Danaerys would be enraged and we would see Westeros vs Danaerys with a lot of threachery, but as Tywin, Ned, Stannis, et cetera, would work together, it would be harder to defect with sons of lord's put under armed Guard and killed if the lords defected. Interesting story, I sure hoped for conflict beween Dothraki and Westerosi, and we would still have the lying and betraying in Westeros. Oh ... the question was whether Tywin was a just man. No, you don't let your son go on trial for a murder he did not comit, nor sending out his own favorite mass-murderer to massacre people under a false flag because his son was imprisoned. To wait out the real war, until it was done (Joffrey WAS right, that's why Tywin was so enraged, but he could dominate Joffrey so he did), and then come as friend, open the gates and sack King's Landing, sending former mentioned murderer to kill children (yes, he did, but he did not order the rape of Elia) because the new king "saw himself as an hero, and heroes don't kill children", but in reality still wanted them dead. Was that really just of him, to quote himself? Opportunist, terrorist, but.... a good ruler, and the 7K did prosper under him. Too bad he had no way to become king, which would mean permanent power. During his second try as Hand, he was shot by his own son taking a shit after a year or two. That's not very successful. He did good under a stable reign (Targaryens), but failed during instable (psuedo-Baratheon, Lannister-puppet king, but Joffrey died believing Robert his father, and Tommen too, hell... even Tywin believed it until just before he died, because Cersei outright told him (he must've got it).

Tywin was a good man, unlike Rheagar, who condemned his children, his wife and half of the realm to war and death so that he can fuck another girl. Tywin ALWAYS stood for his brothers and his sister, protecting them, supporting them and keeping all of house Lannister safe and prosperous. For the good of his house and the he carried Aerys the mad king for years on his back, resisting decades of ungratful insults to his person and to his wife and the same time making the realm prosperous, he even paid House Targaryern debt to Iron Bank from HIS OWN POCKETS. None forced him to do it yet it did it for the realm knowing the Aerys will never thank him for that. Aerys hated him. Hated him for what?For being better then his ungrateful king in all things. He is accused of having ordered Elia's and her children death even though it is obvious that the order came from Varys, who was the true master of Kings' landing, to put forward phase 2 of his plan. Does when the mountain found the corpses he brough them to Tywin who brought to Robert who looked away. For Tywin having the Princess and her kids alive was WAY more valuable then having them dead and mutilated. Yet of you so called fans of the series, very few consider and remember this. Why? Because you are emotional simpletons.

@The Law Egomaniac sadist? When did he ever take pleasure in any political decision he made in the books?Never. He lived his entire life in function of his House, he was the definition of altruistic, for those who do not know someone is Altruistic when he lives exclusively for someone else. He became ruthless as was his duty, a ruler must be ruthless to keep his people safe. Main reason why Ned Stark failed miserably and his House is basically non existant at this point.Tywin did what needed to be done for his House and the Westerlands and when he was Hand for Aerys he went above the call of duty for the realm several times. For instance, just to give a little example, when Aerys wanted to go war against The Iron Bank,which means Bravoos,Tywin instead paid the entire crown debt with his own funds. He didn't have to but HE DID for the realm, since b then Aerys pubblicaly humiliated him and his wife countless times and the two of the were politically at war. He even tried to resign several times but he was denied for a long time. Who caused the war of the kings? Tywin?No,he end it and now a new is starting. The war of the five kings started because Catelyn Tully was a dangerous scheming imbecille who destroyed her husbands plans and ignored his orders and decided instead to be manipulated by Littlefinger, the main man behind the war. Tywin was the real deal that did what needed to be done for his kin and people and there is no greater call than that, he was cursed to have a wackjob for a daughter and a carpet for a son. When your family is at stake morality means nothing. Bring your delusions and misinformation elsewhere.

@The Law You have some serious problems. I red the books and additional information on the Song of ice and fire Official App very carefully. Since you proved very early that you are a naive bafoon who puts morality on politics, someone who didn't red carefully the source material you shoud really be ashamed of yourself for your ignorance. Ol'Tywin was a man in capital letters and always did what was necessary for his house and the realm Period. Nothing else matters in a ruler.There is no such things as sin. Since I destroyed your arguments about him being a " egomoniac sadist" just shut up because you have proved that you don't even know the meaning of those words.
@ravenstrategist13254 жыл бұрын
@The Law If you really think so then you are very limited. I will explain in simple terms what is my beef with your brand of stupidity and projection of insignificant morality in a political situation. You started with an idiotic statement proposing the unsupported notion that Tywin Lannister is an " Egomaniacal Sadist", a notion which is absurd. Tywin is ruthless but never cruel. He does what must be done to protect his House and further its interest. Something all competent individuals do, particularly lords in a medieval setting. Very simple very logical. Tywin is the perfect leader to have in basically all situations. He is a great politician, an experienced commander,a masterful schemer and lives in function of his House. If I was a Lannister I will feel safe with Tywin in charge because I will know that he will do whatever is necessary to defned the House. You don't like Tywin, fine, I have no problems, it simply a fictional charachter. The thing I have a problem with is that you are deliberately lying, attribuiting to him traits that are not his. If you have to dislike someone, dislike for true things not immaginary ones. Simple as that. I have no tollerance for non-logical people, morever the concept of good and evil is subjective to culture, time,place, circumstances and so forth, it is ludicrous to judge someone fictional or not on those basis.

"He's my brother." So what? Tygett and Gerion were Tywin's brothers as well, and it seems that neither of them had an overly rosy relationship with him. Likely because, unlike Kevan, they could actually see what an asshole Tywin really was. Even Genna states that, despite loving Tywin, she still didn't approve of everything he did in his life.
@bezukaking68603 жыл бұрын
wasn't that Genna speech more about how Tywin was an overachiever, and Tygett & Gerion's aversion to Tywin amounted to an inability to measure up to their Lord brother (something about Tywin's Shadow)? Kevan (if I recall) only differed because he was not so thirsty for personal renown that he was willing to support Tywin.

@@bezukaking6860 I think Tyrion even said that about Kevan to young griff: My uncle Kevan would make a passable ruler, but the gods made him a follower, not a leader.

The key difference is that Tywin lifted their families reputation up from the gutter and made them a force to be feared when before they were a joke. If you had a brother that single handedly made you a more influential person you would probably follow that guy no matter how much of an asshole he is. You might morally object to what Tywin does but you literally cannot argue that what he did wasn't in the best interests of his family, its what makes him such a compelling character.
