@@p382742937423y4 Yes. Scottish top flight football was dominated by two teams (Glasgow Rangers and Glasgow Celtic) for decades. Rangers, due to financial improprieties were demoted to the bottom league, leaving Celtic to win the premier league title for years essentially uncontested. Hence the show jumping (versus horse racing) analogy. But they say you should never explain a joke. So I hope I didn't kill it for you.

Rangers got demoted multiple leagues for financial "irregularities" leaving Celtic to win everything for the best part of a decade. No longer a race with only one horse.. about the only way one horse can perform without any other horses in the vicinity: show-jumping.
