Lol, Bol Bol ran into both players, feet moving and bumped them. The last example of applying Durant's teaching Bol still had his right hand on the hip. At his height hands up and out covers more space and may affect the shot, or keeping close enough at his height the chance of a block is high. Can't wait to see this kid develop. He has so much enthusiasm, determination and potential.
@cptfwiffo8 ай бұрын
Yeah. He ran into both players, drawing fouls *and not understanding what he did wrong*. He may have enthusiasm, determination, and potential, but held back by introspection and intelligence. This is 5 years of professional basketbal and he still doesn't know he needs to slide instead of turn his hips and lose his defensive position.
@DetroitTyler8 ай бұрын
What he needs to do is learning to contact partially with the hips and not drop his hands below his waist in the paint. They should be ready to explode upwards, as it's much easier to maneuver around an opponents fully extended arms. If he likes to hand one arm lower perhaps he could hover an arm/hand over a players point of release and threaten there while having 1 hand up. Dude looks like a novice out there.
@nicketosaunders76538 ай бұрын
That was exactly what I was saying...He's still hand checking on defense immediately after KD showed and told him the issue is....Old habits die hard I guess!
@11bornrich8 ай бұрын
@@cptfwiffo The issue was he would initiate contact using his body instead of just going straight up. People love talking about handchecking but that made playing defense easier. It's much tougher to play defense and takes more skill today because you need to rely on footwork, agility, IQ to use your body to send a defender a specific way and also remember to never jump towards or away from your man, always go straight up and only extend your hand towards the offense if you're sure you won't make contact with your body, arm or hand as a result as extending your arm can also alter the position of your body in the air. It's why Tim Duncan is easily the greatest big man defender and arguably the best defender ever.

People keep talking about hype and all that but it is these defensive iq issues plus his highlight hunting in his first years that had coaches benching him. He needed to resolve both of those, and that takes investment on both the organization and him. Thankfully, the bumping around on teams has tempered his ego for the most part, but that left the iq part, which I feel the nba teams dropped the ball on. Everybody expects a ready made freak nowadays (like a Wemby or Chet) and are too impatient to teach the kid fundamentals. KD is doing just that and I hope Bol continues to soak up all of that advice, even after KD retires.
