Absolutely loved this film. Very refreshing to see something that's not presenting itself as the most difficult, most dangerous, most badass, etc. Though this was no doubt an awesome achievement, the vibe is of fun climbing in an inspiring place. The shots stay on the climbers for multiple moves which is such a welcome change from the usual hyper-speed, ADD style of editing seen in lots of other climbing films. Hats off. Hope there's more where this came from!

Digital Stoke Media really has it all together now! Great climbing, great camera coverage, excellent music, good commentary, all applied to one of Yosemite's most exquisite formations IMO. Wonderful!

Thanks for the positive critique! I'm currently working on a bit of a longer version but, running into some budget issues. Hope to have it up soon though.

So much climbing content nowadays is produced in such a quick cut, loud, in-your-face fashion, that this was such a cool change of pace. Really well done. I wish more videos were like this.

Thanks. The feedback is really appreciated. And, I'm glad you appreciate our style and, will definitely strive to bring more content out like this.

A wee bit of a historical correction. Royal Robbins & Tom Frost we’re not part of the Stone Masters. Frost & Robbins we’re part of the Golden Era , covering the 50’s through the 60’s. The Stone Masters were approximately 1.5 generations later, starting in the mid 70’s with climbers like Tobin Sorensen, John Long, John Bacher, Lynn Hill, et al. Proud line & awesome editing. Thanks for inviting us on the adventure

Loved the content. It's great to hear from Kevin again after the Dawn Wall! Only change I'd like to see is choosing music that embodies Kevin and this ascent better than the gratuitous 10-minute guitar solo we're stuck with :)

Hey you guys, Great effort! So nice to see the evolution of the sport. Me and Mike Corbett did the Northwest Face route in a day back in 1981. Beautiful location with very featured rock. I led the Chimney of Horrors and it was gnarly with the gear back then. Some steep A3 to finish it. Lots of nailing. Aid climbing with a pin rack in about 20 hours. My hat is off to you! Cheers!

I always dreamed of doing the Spire when I examined it intensely when climbing the Braille Book on Middle Cathedral. I took some nice photos of it. Thanks for filling in my void. That was absolutely beautiful. Great Camera work too, Kodos! (By the way, We were washed off the top by a relentless thunderstorm that soaked us to the bone. Got back to get the last wasabi snacks at the Curry Bar when it closed! )

Great job! Climbed a few routes up in that area many years back. Always eyeballed the lower pitches (at 1:50) while on approaches....thinking they looked cool. Did the Reg route on higher with Steve Vinson(?)...good times.

What about High Life? Rob Miller and Jay Selvidge. It was freed 15+ years ago and shares 4 or 5 pitches with this route. The "Jorgeson Roof" and other pitches were done as part of that ascent in the early 2000's. Please, give credit when credit is due. I freed most of High Life myself 15 years ago (I bailed at the "Roof"). Not to take anything away from the climbers or the film, looks good, but please credit those that did the work before you.

Second the motion. 10:42 "Higher Cathedral Spire; first free ascent" Not quite. "AClimber's Guide to Yosemite Valley" by Steve Roper, Sierra Club Books, 1964 says "Route 1. Southwest face. III, 5.8. First ascent on April 15, 1934 by Jules Eicorn, Nestor Robinson, and Richard leonard."
@brianprince25874 жыл бұрын
Also Scott Cosgrove worked and sent up through the crux on this route, AFAIK. That's cool you tried the High Life, how was it?

Christ, couldn’t handle the guitar solos. Felt like I was watching a dramatic action television show from the 80’s. Of all the climbing videos on KZbin, this video has, hands down, the most annoying background music. It almost feels trolly. Poor Kevin deserves better.
