I was there that day. First weekend of May 2007 in Edison NJ. It was advertised as “The Football Spectacular” but some wrestlers got in when Hogan was announced there as part of the main guys appearing. Warrior came in as a solo vendor and Sheik came in with another vendor with Bruno Sammartino and I think one other guy. While I was waiting on line for Warrior, Bruno came over and Warrior gave him a handshake and hug. They chatted for a minute or two and I snapped a photo of them while I was waiting on line. I wasn’t there when the Sheik came over but my guess it was sometime after Bruno. I didn’t see or hear anything about this incident till I got home that evening.

What Nash is referring to is the warriors boot camp. It wasn’t a wrestling school. He basically makes you run laps across the entire town with 50 pound chains around your neck starting at 5am in the morning: half the people hated it and felt that they spent a few hundred dollars just to completely exhaust themselves for 12 straight hours. Half the people refused to participate after a couple of hours of that pointless shit. Warrior made about 10 grand that day I heard

Bret had creative control as it relates to his exit, he did nothing wrong. He has every right to say, “I’m not going out like this”, because it was in his contract.
@fuzzluvver69
@fuzzluvver69 Жыл бұрын
You're sort of right, as in from the legal perspective. But in the wrestling business there is also doing what is morally correct. Creative control is supposed to be so that you don't have your character and therefore value in the industry damaged. It is, and never was, supposed to be a carte blanche to just say no to everything and have your own way. Decisions over who wins and loses a title should ALWAYS (with literally no justifiable exception that exists) be the choice of the promoter / owner of the company. Creative control should be regarding the manner of the construction of the match or how the loss comes about, as it can be done in a way that doesn't damage the wrestler in question and make them look weak. So in the bigger picture beyond the legal technicality Bret was absolutely, and indisputably, in the wrong.

It's funny how people STILL use the 'holding people up for money' line, when in fact the actual truth of the matter, when it came out was very different. Since WM6, warrior had an agreement that had been honoured for the entire year that he would be paid the same as Hulk for PPV matches, and then it was right before Summerslam 1991 (like a day or two before it) that the WM7 payoffs were made, and WWF reneged on the agreement and underpaid Warrior. Now they may argue that lesser payoffs all round were justified because of the late change to a smaller venue for WM7, but what WASN'T justifiable was that they also gave Warrior a lesser payoff than Hogan without any discussion or warning. So no, Warrior WASN'T holding Vince up for more money, he was demanding what was ALREADY AGREED and had already been stiffed on. That is the reality of the matter for anyone that actually cares to understand. And if you don't believe me? Just take half an hour to go and find the detail - it is publicly available - so I'm afraid this isn't a debatable point, it's a factual one.
@dont_follow5777

Nobody wants the truth anymore. They crap on Vince, but for some reason, side with Vince on the Ultimate Warrior Summerslam '91 story, because they love crapping on Warrior. 6:45 - I've heard Sean ask this before on one of KFC's releases (maybe the Scott Hall one.... whoever it was didn't really answer) and the fact that Nash here is also not really offering a response is a bit strange. You guys are overlooking the fact that the promoter in question had given Bret Hart creative control in his contract. So, Bret had the power to disagree and refuse to do something he didn't like, which invalidates the question.

"But how would Stu have reacted to a performer telling him he wasn't getting his belt back" You're looking at it from the POV that THAT is where the Montreal Screw Job originated.. That Vince launched the screw job as a reaction to this sudden and unexpected demand from a performer gone rogue, but it's a lot more complex than that. First, "Montreal" was the end action from a series of events which precipitated it. So in the "What would Stu Do" POV, lets look at some of those events. How would Stu have reacted to someone "losing their smile" ? (and why was it, he lost his smile ?) Would Stu, have ever made a deal with someone and then broke it ? This specifically applies to three factors.. 1st The 20 year contract (Deal) - Would he have ever made a deal with someone to work in his territory for an extended period and then broken his word after.. a few dates ? 2nd Would Stu have ever backed out of a promise that a performer could "work together with him, to book his exit from the territory" ? (had he made such a deal) 3rd in the apparent process of honoring the deal to work together to book the exit from the territory, would he have lied yet again.. pulling off a Survivor Series 97 ? I think the answer to all three of those is a very simple and flat no. If Stu gave his word (signed a contract with specific terms) he would have honored it even to the point of going broke, because his word is his honor and his honor is his word. And Vince going on and on and on and on about doing it to "protect the time honored tradition !" Pfft fuck off with that. This, on the same night that after 23 years or something they actually acknowledge on screen that Vince is the fucking owner and has Michael fucking Cole interview him and ask him "So Vince.. who's going to win ?" Not "In your years of sitting ring side and seeing the training these men have put in, Who do you THINK will be victorious ?" The only way it could have been more blatant would have been if Cole had asked "Yo Vinny, who ya book to get da belt ?" So all his blustering and bitching about not being able to honor the terms of a contract (Deal) he made with Bret because "It went against the time honored Tradition" is horse shit. He was already wiping his ass with Kayfab. And as for Shawn losing his smile, how would Stu have dealt with a performer like that in his territory.. Stu very likely would have made sure the guy never fucking smiled again because if he had there wouldn't be any teeth left to show for it. So everything that Bret did.. is exactly what Bret should have done. Be it by the book of modern contracts for performers or by "the Book of Stu".

I'm guessing the "wrestling class" they're talking about was the short lived Warrior Show series where he would put people thru hardcore gym training. The most notable one is with the band Asking Alexandria. He basically tries to hyper-motivate them into living clean, regimented lifestyles rather than boozing on the road. I absolutely think Bret is one of the best ever but Nash has a point. If you are brought up and trained in “the dungeon” I’m going to assume you’re institutionalized towards that life.

It wasn't Warrior,s firs time ,in public doing a autograph show , HE had it set up were he sold 200 tickets to fans ,so he could spend 5 or more minutes with each fan instead of just sighing stuff and move to the next person, and during it BILLY GRAM CAME UP TO HIm AND TALKED A FEW AND TOOK PITCHER, Then Bruno Samartino came up and did the same thing, they all respected each other and haven't seen each other in years Iron sheiks boy wanted him to do same thing Warrior didn't want him around, he was wasted and their were kids around, so Sheik acted like a drunk ass .People get the story,s right if you going to talk about it, some people just spin anything to what they want it to be. Some podcast should do little research before opening there mouth,s, so many people hear what they say and just believe it , and make false shit into their own truth. SAD

If i was nash or hogan or taker or even warrior. I would make them (the hosts like "Hannibal") sign a legal document stating that my crew has the right to record a 2ndary video and has the right to release it publicly if and only if they modified the audio and video. I would personally sign a legal document stating that if they didn't modify it then itd put into a bank vault so itd never see the light of day.

Nash doesn't get enough credit for his impressions. He has a few that are money, especially Tommy Rich.

Warrior is an international sensation and the only people who came close or overcame his presence were Hogan, Austin, the Rock, Piper, the Undertaker and Andre. I'm talking about international sensations and not guys that stuck to America. Some people outside of America have heard about Bret, Shawn, Flair and others. Sure they have had great and long careers but from the casual fan's perspective there was nothing special about them other than the fact that they stuck to the business for a long time. The Sheik should have licked Warrior's shoes when he was still around.
