Absolutely phenomenal drumming all-around. The only thing that always perplexes me about this drumming (and other drummers) is at 0:49 where that thrash beat comes in. Why is it that drummers who can play mega fast blasts, such as this guy, don't want to double-up the hi-hat on this bit? It sounds way more intense when the hi-hat is doubled to every beat. This isn't to discredit this drummer because he is extremely good, but it just always bugs me when a thrash beat is done half-heartedly when the drummer is perfectly capable of keeping that sort of speed going on the right hand.

Pretty much. With push pull technique you're kind of throwing the stick down (or 'pushing') and loosening your grip a bit so the tip of the stick can rebound, then bringing your hand back up ('pulling') and tightening your grip to bring the tip back down again. It's tough to get it down fast but once you do it's a really fluid motion that doesn't strain your hands nearly as much as trying to muscle it out.

Obviously everyone should be floored by this performance, even those who aren't into these extreme kinds of metal (that little snare lick @2:35 anyone?). But the sound of this kit is huge as well. That double china hit @3:05 could kill your newborn.
