Kevin Paradis joins Benighted : REPTILIAN Live Drum Cam (live at Toulouse, Fr)

First time I played for Benighted as a session drummer was in 2013, and I had to rehearse the set list mostly on my practice pads, in my van ! 4 years later, I’m back in Benighted, this time as their new official drummer. I couldn’t be more motivated and proud than I am to be a part of this band. Our roads crossed several times during these last 4 years. I know I’m joining people with great stage and studio experience, and people who have kept making great albums over the years. I'm looking forward to rock the stage and to make brutal music with them!

Dragatis its not that difficult considering he's not hitting that hard. Dont get me wrong this guy is legit. But alot of metal drummers are not hitting with much power for the sake of speed. Triggers are doing the rest. Not trying to start a trigger debate on ethical drumming either, but that's the plain truth. I once seen Gene Hoglan with SYL. I was fortunate to sit in on the soundcheck. He was just as loud mic'd without triggers as he with them. And his front reso head was visibly moving air. Yeah Gene is the shit. 😉👍

I beg to differ, i have been playing straight ankle motion like kevin for 2 years, and i recently found a way to cut the stress i inflict to my muscles/ankles/knees in half, by applying the principles of the swivel motion, but with my knees i still play straight ankle, but i move my knees in a circular motion in order to cut the stress and gain in controll, speed and endurance. What happens is that my beaters are now hitting with what seems to be alot more power, but it's actually not true, i am not stronger than i used to be before finding that technique, in fact i am cutting the stress in half, which means i am not struggling anymore while i am playing and give some more space for my pedals to bounce and hit again but that's all! Now think about it in the case of Kevin, my max is around 240 to 250 bpm with this technique, which means kevin is actually able to endure 280 bpm without any different technique than just straight regular ankle motion, think about the struggle and stress inflicted to his body, and yet he manages to play perfectly in time and his single strokes are almost flawless !, that's sureal, in fact now that i learned swivel and my new technique, i have even more respect for the dude !

@@fartsare2023 i love when someone points out velocity when a drummer is doing 16th notes at 300 bpm.. really? thats the entire point of triggers.. so you can sacrifice velocity for speed. Not for lack of skill, but physics. You physically have to hit softer the faster you go. We aren't machines.

Kévin Paradis Be honest is he an influence on your playing? I see so many similarities, in your personal style (I was just thinking about this when I noticed you uploaded this, haha). Not that it's a carbon copy at all you guys have differences in your playing, but a lot of the small intriguing, hmm, flare if you will, that you guys add to you cymbal variations are just so uniquely you guys. Hope that kinda made sense. Congratulations on the new gig again and I have full faith that you'll carry on the torch.

If you watch carefully the video, you will see the gear I use to record ;) I use a zoom H4N. Then to make the sound better, I ask for drums in the monitor but not the trigger, as I have it in my in ear. So to have the trigger in the mix, I also record it apart, thanks to the inputs of the zoom. And that's it !
