I will say this about Bruce Willis. When it comes to famous people to run into. He’s been one of the coolest I’ve met. I’ve heard otherwise but he was awesome with me. I just asked to shake his hand (and this was before good camera phones), he literally said “is that all, you want a picture?” I was speechless. I didn’t have a camera on me and a pedestrian literally took the shot and emailed it to me. Can I find it 20 years later. Nope 😔

Kevin is too over analytical with not taking criticism with his films (nobody should give negative reviews or hate his films or him but give a constraint opinion and compliment) and Bruce is very social with people and Kevin Smith needs to see this.

Bruce Willis strikes me as an actor who is bitter about the fact that he does not have a varied career. In his early days, he did a lot of different stuff - but since the nineties, he has been type-cast as an action star, and we only really see him in stuff that is either already associated with him... Or an action role. And I don't think he's had a break-out successful film in a while. Now, I don't think from this or anything Kevin Smith has said that we should make Bruce Willis out to be some evil person. In fact, I think if we add the context of that bitterness...the "prick-ishness" of Bruce Willis starts to make a lot of sense. We all deal with being unhappy in different ways. I'm not saying it's sympathy-worthy. I think in this situation, a fan has the right to be heart-broken. And there are actors and other celebrities out there who will sign every autograph with a beaming smile. But I don't think we can hold everyone to that standard.

Naw man, its not that. Its the fact that you are stuffing Demi Moore in her prime, and she leaves you for fucking KELSO. That shit is hard cos you go "I was stuffing Demi Moore man" and they go "yeah but she left for fucking Kelso". Wouldn't you be bitter? Willis was already huge when that happenned, Demi was just starting out i mean can you name a big movie with Demi in it?

Like, not just an action star, he has been in a few movies that were not Die Hard, but the character he played were very clearly influenced by his John McCain portrayals. But he does seem kind of pissed off in general, he has given interviews where he got pretty pissy about being asked about his political views. It's weird, because Hudson Hawk is not some super original awesome thing, and as I recall Bruce was involved in the writing and shit. Many of the roles he has clearly voluntarily taken reference that he has played John McCain and that he he is kind of the badass like that. The Whole 9 Yards took that slightly satirically (him talking about his tomato plants and shit) Kevin tells another story about Bruce being kind of proud to be the "gatekeeper" of Diehard lore and fighting with studio executives over it. He tells another story about Bruce being pissy about channelling a previous performance in his career (from some TV show that is before my time). But Bruce keeps going to this cash cow of playing John McClain or some version of him, and then he kind of whines about it. But then he also whines about being asked about his political opinions, and granted, he is not a politician, so it should not matter too much, and nothing he has voiced is overtly radical (he likes small government that has nothing to do with his private life and does not tax him much). I mean, my opinion, if I have an opinion on something and it is not something grotesque, then voicing and stating that clearly repeatedly is a good thing. If you are afraid of voicing your own views on things, you should probably think about changing them. If you hate the performances you have given, change it?

I’m 100% on Bruce Willis’s side on this one. It takes an amazing amount of energy to meet everyone’s expectations all the time. This is an incredibly weird thing to hold against someone. The way he set up the story i thought he (kevin) was going to say Bruce shoved him in front of the truck or something of that magnitude… Nope. He just didn’t act in the way that Kevin wanted him to act. He wasn’t flattered by being objectified. This is not unlike a woman who gets catcalled on the street, and when she expresses she doesn’t like it, gets called a bitch by her so-called admirers. Basically, why should Bruce enjoy never being called by his name but inly being called the movies he’s been in? That does sound annoying. Like being reduced to a consumable. He resisted it. And he actually was letting Kevin “in” to his actual human experIence by answering him honestly, “no, i dont like being yelled at, being reduced to the title if a movie I acted in. Thats not me.” (In the same way a woman might say, i don’t like having strangers yell out “nice tits!” Thats not me. ) The main thing Kevin is angry at Bruce for is not acting like the “consumable” that the fans wanted him to be. I dont blame Bruce for resisting this. It actually shows WHY he is such a great actor. He is holding on to his humanity and resisting buying into the façade and reduction that people want to make him. Treating someone more than human is a short distance from thinking of them as “less than human”. As this resentful rendition makes painfully clear. I’m embarrassed for Kevin Smith. Who clearly is tellint this out of a place of great neediness and insecurity, even in the midst of his accomplishments. Kevin should take his own advice: the sanctimonious and very judgey: “do what makes you happy; life is too short.” Clearly this objectifying and hero worship and judgeyness and resentment does not make Kevin “happy” . Maybe he should stop.

I would happily call bruce "harry stamper" in a heartbeat and from what i have heard of his reputation with the way he treats his fans, he would probably smile and wave. i think for kevin, the movie business is an obsession and that is truly wonderful, but for some actors it is just a profession they enjoy.

Bruce didn't admonish the people shouting it, was just honest with Kevin about how he felt about it. I like Kevin but I am more inclined to agree with Bruce on the issues with filming Cop Out. Kevin has made movies but Bruce has been involved in a lot more movies. I imagine a Director smoking weed at all during filming would seem like "all the time" because that is just not professional and should not be done at all. Bruce is a fantastic actor but obviously a bit of an introvert who does not want that kind of attention where Kevin feeds off it. Kevin not understanding that is his issue. I still like Kevin but I am with Bruce on this one.

It's actually not that bad a story, Kevin's just telling it like it's the most soul crushing thing ever. Willis would've had decades of morons addressing him as movie titles, like he's not even a person. If you consider yourself a real actor - which Willis has proven to be - people yelling "Die Hard!" at you whenever you leave the house would do your head in. He got bluntly honest & told Smith he hates that. Smith replied comparing it to Clerks fandom, which needless to say is nowhere near the worldwide phenomenon Die Hard is. Knowing Smith doesn't get it and never will, he simply walked away. He's not a super prick, they were just on different pages, which seemed to be every Smith vs Willis prob in a nutshell.

The one thing I will say about Bruce Willis, is that I was watching an interview with him and other famous actors, and the narrator asked Bruce if he had any advice for actors trying to make it in acting. I will never forget his response, as it applies to everything in life. He said nobody is there to tell you to get your a$$ out of bed and go on auditions. He said people complain how hard it is to make it when hard work is what you need to succeed.

100% I agree. Your comment shows a level of empathy that Kevin seems to lack. What a waste of ‘imagination’ to use it to construct a story that tears down the reputation of another person? I was really sad for Kevin hearing him tell this with such enthusiasm ans bloodlust… he is carrying this around like a weight… bruce willis isn’t. It must be a special kind of hell to have strangers judging your every move. Even when you act just like a normal person, you are reported to others aa being obnoxious ans rude and an SOB. Just becasue you dont LOVE being clawed at by people who want something from you every time you go out into the public. They even hold that against you. Sheesh. Humans are weird.

bruce is hands down my favorite actor alive. he has the full range, comedy , dramatic, action, talker, silence- you name it. am i surprised he acts like a prick to most people...not extremely. that being said...this isnt such a bad evil story. yea he has been given wealth and fame, but there is a flip side to it. old memorable movie roles tend to dominate your life. to the point where they suffocate your real self. not that he should deal with it by being unfriendly..but i understand

Yes, but he should feel fortunate to have succeeded, where other talented people try for decades and fail. He should be humbled he was in an iconic role that shot him to fame, not bothered by the fans that made him.

I'm the same way. I love seeing people being passionate about stuff they love. I mention it a lot, but there's this one video on the Elders React channel about Elvis that gets a smile out of me every. single. time. It's the one old lady gushing over Elvis the whole time, you'll know her when you see her. I hate the Fine Brothers, but that's one video I'll give them a view for over and over. And if that happened, which I'm not saying it did because it totally didn't surely, I wouldn't want a thing to do with the prick either. I still enjoy his films, though. This is why I don't really like knowing too much about celebrities and it's kind of my own fault going down this rabbit hole to find this out, but most of the time it just ruins your enjoyment of their content. Fortunately being a prick isn't enough to ruin his films for me. If he had done something *truly* heinous, like Bill Cosby levels of horrible, though, it could ruin it for me. I don't blame others for trying to push past it and enjoy something they always have despite it, but when it gets that bad, I just can't.

I'm from Idaho. There is a ranch dealer up north that sells Bruce all of his supplies. One day way back when he and Demi Moore show up to pick up said supplies, and of course people want autographs, which Demi Moore was MORE than happy to give. It's Idaho it's not like there is crowds at the ranch supplier. So while she is signing a handful of autographs he's paying the supplier (who didn't seem to know who Willis was) a few people kind of line up next to him for an autograph. After he pays the man he just PLOWS by the people like they didn't fucking exist, in a B line straight for his truck.

Thats a particularly rough one, considering I have it on good authority from someone who was a personal chef to a certain Hollywood financier who prepared dinner for Demi and Bruce when they were married, and he described Demi as "the most insufferable cunt I have ever met" (his words, not mine). I believe you, too; she may have been unbearable as a guest, but Bruce is absolutely unapproachable as a person. (side note, Bruce and Demi split shortly after the aforementioned meal.)

I understand being a celebrity is hard asf and you cant do normal people things etc and get talked too and asked for pics etc daily. But thats what you signed up for. And you should love and respect your fans who are the sole reason your a celebrity in the first place. If they dont like you or buy your films and work then your nothing. So you should love and respect the fans you have imo.

Bruce Willis was the coolest guy on the planet to 20-year-old me in the mid-80s. I had a poster of David Addison on my wall. I was never into Norris, Schwarzenegger, or Stallone. To me Bruce was much more accessible and Moonlighting and even Die Hard were SMART. It sucks to hear these stories but they’ve followed him for decades. Maybe Cybill Shepherd wasn’t the bad guy on that set after all...

first of all am i really the only person on Earth that has never liked Bruce Willis? when he first started getting big on "Moonlighting" i didnt understand what the big deal was and i still dont. and that Bruno thing he did use to annoy the hell out of me. the only film i can recall rather liking with him was "the last boyscout" which is odd because i dont like either of those guys. but i have to tell you after all the build up on this i was a little surprised that was the end of the story. i imagine if i were as famous as Bruce and had people on the streets screaming die hard to me every day for a decade i would feel about the same. i thought he was going to be an asshole and say something shitty to them or do something shitty. all he did was quietly say to Kevin "i hate the ones that say die hard, the most". big deal.

I understand it from Bruce's point. he's a actor who feels he's being remembered for a movie/a role. even though he's shown versatility by beginning with comedy. he's played different roles yet he's remembered for action. give the guy a break. off course Kevin loves to hear CLERKS yelled he says "you could throw a stone and hit a better director". Bruce spared/pitted him when he walked away.

Bruce is an asshole who doesn't realize that those annoying people yelling "Die Hard!" are the reason why his ass even has a career. If he doesn't want people recognizing him from that series, then maybe he should stop making shitty Die Hard sequels every few years. But of course, that's where the money is because no one cares about anything else he does anymore. So, he'll gladly take the Die Hard money out of the pockets of those annoying fans he so despises.
@rajakarim4381
@rajakarim4381 8 жыл бұрын
Admittedly the die hard sequels are awful (especially the last one) and he's in it for the money but in all honesty many of us would do the same. Harrison ford but to name one. Die hards give him the notice/financial security to do other projects. He does have a broad spectrum of work.

+Blah Playhard Well, the reason he has a career is because of fans. If no one paid to see his movies, he wouldn't have one. It's just a fact. So to say he owes them nothing is ridiculous. Gratitude, perhaps? That costs nothing to show.
@blahplayhard4092
@blahplayhard4092 8 жыл бұрын
Fans pay to see the movie, and that's what he gives them. It ends there. It's a 2-way street. If he is supposed to be grateful to them then that's the same as saying anyone who ever watched any of his movies needs to be grateful to him, which is absurd. Because the transaction ended when they paid for their ticket. Using your logic, he should be able to go up to people and be like "I'm BRUCE WILLIS - if you've ever seen anything I've been in, you must show me gratitude right now!" Do you now see how wrong that would be? The gratitude they show him has already been included in the price of the ticket. Please understand simple economics. Is ignoring fans a dick move? Probably. But he owes them NOTHING, unless they were charged more than they were supposed to be for their ticket. If someone saw you at work and started yelling about how awesome you were, would you owe them anything? No.
