I agree with Kevin. Gordon Solie was the best commentator in professional wrestling. He was articulate, quick on his feet, had a steady tone, and was well-versed in the sport. He added class and authenticity to professional wrestling.

Gordon was the Best! He was so scientific with Latin Terms, Medical Terms, and proper Wrestling Terms. Gordon was as big to the match as the wrestlers. He was a great storyteller (Dusty's face becomes a crimson mask or it appears Colt has a foreign object in his hand.) We all remember the infamous phone call from the NWA President. Backstage Gordon was a wonderful person and I am proud to call him My Brother. Alas, my brother!

Grew up in Tallahassee watching Gordon Solie on Championship Wrestling from Florida, went to several events at the old Tallahassee Sports Arena, an old tobacco barn, Gordon was always there walking around talking to people, great times! Gordon always sold his wrestlers' back stories with dead seriousness and did his best to give them a more 3-dimentional personality.

Gordon's catch-phrases never grow old- "His face is a crimson mask!" "It's a pier-six brawl" "We'll be back once order is restored!" "Certainly no question about that." Gordon and Dusty Rhodes were to wrestling what Howard Cosell and Muhammad Ali were to boxing. So much of Championship Wrestling from Florida's huge success was due to Gordon Solie. I agree with Sullivan, Gordon was the best at calling wrestling. Jim Ross was the best when things changed to "sports entertainment."

I loved Gordon Solie and nobody’s gonna have a clue who I’m talking about but I grew up on Ed Capral who did GCW from 1955-1972 and All South Championship Wrestling with Ann Gunkel and then spent a little while in Mid Atlantic in South Carolina. He wasn’t charismatic but I liked him. He once knocked Freddie Blassie out with a microphone (Kayfabe I’m sure).

I loved Gordon Solie. I grew up in LA with Dick Lane, who did commentary for wrestling and roller derby at the Olympic Auditorium. He too respected the business, working with wrestlers like Freddie Blassie, Edouard Carpentier, Sailor Art Thomas, Count Billy Varga, Rikkidozan and other greats of his time. He deserves more attention than he has every received.

Lane, Ray Morgan, Michel Normandin and a couple of others from the late 50s and early 60s were incredibly respected, and were terrific on the mic. Sadly, very little of their work has survived (although some of Normandin's Montreal Canadiens announcing from before 1963 is still around , which might give you an idea of how he was. Of course, it's all in Quebec French, but still.....

Gordon was a master of putting guys over.He would put the talent from the main event guys to the enhancement talent over and treated wrestling as a serious sport like nobody else I ever heard.Only thing was in Continental wrestling working for the Fullers he would get wrestlers names mixed up and tell people to look at their monitor under their seat or something strange like that. But he would be a bit tipsy 🥴 sometimes

Gordon Solie was considered the Dean of professional wrestling I agree with that point, but to me, the greatest tv wrestling announcer was Larry Matusik out of St.Louis he could get the wrestlers to perform on tv as intense as they would perform at a paid live event. Wrestlers at the Chase were rarely paid for their matches, but they went all out after hearing Larry's commentary. Matusik rules! !
