4x100m Relay - amazing display of baton passing that cannot be lost, every time I watch this I still grip the seat as we are nearly pipped at the post by the USA even though they muffed up on a baton pass.

I was 9 years old when I watched this and I vividly remember this race. My dad is a huge pessimist when it comes to UK sports, he was completely silent until the last 50 meters and he got up and started shouting “RUN RUN RUN” I have never heard anyone shout so loud 😂😂

After attending a works event in Birmingham a few years ago, I saw Jason Gardener having breakfast in the hotel restaurant. I kept telling colleagues who he was and felt slightly annoyed that no-one remembered him. I was a bit star struck, so one of my colleagues approached him and he happily agreed to have a picture taken with me. He was genuinely happy to be remembered. A real gentleman.

Still would've held a grudge with you're friends for not knowing after telling them. Mark Lewis Francis ran the leg of his life holding of the USA but also man 1 Gardener to man 2 Darren Campbell was rapid as was Darren to man 3 Marlon whilst US man 2 to Gatlin man 3 was sloppy BUT of course the USA thought they just had to get the baton round even with caution would be enough 😂 OOPS!

Never look back. The incoming runner shouts hand, usually. The receiver then thrusts his hand back, grabs the baton and follows through for the first arm swing. Timing is critical!

In the weeks before Athens Olympic Games, there was a lot of speculation that the traffic will be terrible, nobody could move etc. So we chose to go on vacation with my family, even though we could have tickets to any event due to my job. Great to see this again. I remember screaming at the TV for Lewis Francis to hold on at the end. Michael Johnson and Colin Jackson had been questioning some of the GB sprinters dedication/ability on BBC coverage of these Olympics. The GB quartet were pretty upset about it...better than the race was the look on Johnson's face in the studio afterwards. The baton changing in this race showed which team had been training...

Individually the GB sprinters had an poor Olympics MLF and Gardener didn't make the cut for 100m final and Campbell and Devonish like wise for the 200m final so Colin Jackson and Michael Johnson as well as Crammy and Stuart Storey had plenty of reason to criticise them. But that race is shows the beauty of the sprint relay anything can happen who would have expected that American team of Crawford gold in the 200m, Gatlin gold in the 100 and bronze in the 200m and Greene bronze in the 100m to have been beaten. It was third and forth legs that did it for GB the change between Gaitlin and Coby Miller was awful Miller is almost at a standstill and the final change Aliu and Greene and looking for the baton and Devonish and MLF's change was faultless as Lewis Francis is not looking around to see where the baton is and that gave GB the lead but Greene was closing fast it was nail bitingly close.

Most of our half-decent sportsmen/women have to cover their training,injury and rehabilitation costs by themselves, with no assistance from the government. Then when the time comes to compete, they're forced to don the colours of said country. So many bright prospects end up naturalising in other countries so they can realize their athletic dreams. Great job by this GB foursome; although no one could have known it at the time, this turned out to be the last Olympics at witch the once dominant USA's mens 4x100 relay would receive a medal of any color. 4 consecutive Olympics and counting - it may very well be a good 20 years+ before the USA men win Olympic gold in this event given the rise of other nations at this particular discipline.

See that lean forward by Mark Lewis-Francis at 4:51? That pushed him faster into his drive phase and gave him the extra milli-second to bring the race home for GB...but Maurice Green from 4:57 to 4:59; now that's some predator-like sprinting, dang!
