I cannot believe that nothing, NOTHING has changed in this b.s. business... I did this for six months about 27 yrs. ago but could not deal with the predatory sales people and how they try to convince you that customers are uninformed naive children that need you to hold their hand when buying a car. I had too much integrity to take advantage of people like that so..... one day I just walked out and never looked back. The plus side for me in this was.... when I do go looking for a car, I simply tell them that I was in the business and they back off because they know that "I know the game". So something good came out of this for me. love this video. I worked with a bunch of Steve Richards types....... too many.

So...to reach the goal...they lowered prices to the point that our commissions got smaller. So... every morning was a mandatory 30 class on how to screw customers over. Every day this shit. I got a MSRP statement for a new vehicle a week ago...going through a locater for the vehicle. The statement is full of shit to this day!!

That is a great opening. Smart and honest. The car dealership pays msrp and it’s the add ons is where they make their profit. They don’t go lower and they don’t make slot in the car itself. It’s easy to pick apart this guy after seeing the video and having hours to break it down and tear it apart. Which is pretty easy to do but in the moment I don’t see what he is wrong with trying to earn a living. My dealership sold me an experience insurance policy and my BMW. About two months later I tore up two wheels, 19 inch highly expensive and I laid. Nothing to get them replaced at no cost even for the larbor. I could be more thankful for him to sell my the policy and so get around 79 percent back at the end of my lease.
@WTV-fd8ju3 ай бұрын
Car dealers do not pay MSRP when they buy a car. MSRP stands for Manufacturers Suggested RETAIL Price. Car dealers buy cars from the manufacturer at a WHOLESALE price which is less than MSRP. Thats where they make their profit, on the difference less any discount they may offer plus all the money they make on add ons, financing, additional warranties and or maintenance contracts etc. In many cases even with the discount they give off the MSRP price, they will end up making a lot more than the difference between that price and their cost due to all those other avenues of profit. On average most car dealers make. Higher percentage of profit on used car sales because they low ball customers for their trade in’s. I have bought many cats over the years and would never sit and listen to the BS that this car salesman is throwing at his customers. He is the reason car salespeople have such a bad reputation and what people hate to deal with them. They don’t listen to what you want. They try to tell you what you should do that will make them more money regardless of it is beneficial for you. When they start doin this and really just tying to wear you down, LEAVE, WALKOUT.

My last car purchase about 4 months ago came down to the trade value. What I did was to get a trade value for my car from Carvana. Sight unseen they were coming to pick the car up etc. That amount was more than Kelly and some others. I had that offer on my phone. When the Dealer came back hemming and hawing about the trade value being to low, I whipped out my phone and showed him the quote from Carvana. About 2 minutes later, they agreed to match Carvana's offer. This was about 2k more than they were originally offering. Mind you, my car was in good shape with no damage. Anyway, I used the offer from Carvana and the threat to walk and take their offer before buying from them. Deal done. Very simple. Deal took all of 30 minutes. Although they did make me wait to finalize with the Lie-nance Manager. Shut him down too and that only took about 10 minutes. Stick to your guns.

"He's quite thin skinned and defensive if you're critical of anything he says." -- Glock Guy So was the Finance Mgr. at my Jeep dealership when the paper he handed me with all those usual "extras" (5-6 of them) he was trying to sell me. I slid it back to him saying I looked them all over (in seconds as I was anticipating them) and I wanted NONE of those things. His demeanor changed immediately and he went silent -- NOT a happy "friendly" Finance Mgr after that. And I wasn't seeing him because I was getting dealership financing -- I was using my own lender (USAA Bank) -- it was, as usual, just the last stop in the process so I could buy the extended warranty and other items. No thanks. Still, they DID rip me off big-time on my trade-in although it WAS almost right-on what CarMax and KBB Cash Offer would have given me (no, couldn't sell to a private party at that time) but at least I got a great out-the-door price on my new vehicle. I never like talking to a salesman in the open air environment where people are walking by disrupting you. At a good car dealer the salesman will bring you to an actual office so it’s nice and quiet.

I have had a few salesmen just like this. Go get in your car and leave. They said to me. I was blown away. Simply, I did what they said and left the dealer. They would call me and ask, "What can we do to earn your business?" my response is always, NOTHING! Then simply hang up the phone and move on.

I usually tally all my figures and let them know this is my "out the door" offer. I'm in Hawaii and I mainly close because there's no competition here

I recently bought a car and the finance guy got me a crappy APR. Our bank had approved 2.49% and he got us 5%. Our bank already closed so we had to take it. We got a 36 mth loan and I paid it off in two months. Wells Fargo not happy.

I love it when Steve gets exposed and he tries to respond like a foghorn leghorn

Listen, You are helping customers get the best deal, and he is helping dealers maximize profit. Im sure you are aware this is a training video for dealers that hire him to train their employees. Love your channel and what you do to help laypeople. Most educated consumers would run from a sales pitch like this, but his communication skills are great and I love watching his videos for entertainment

More to come! I'm sure Steve Richards is delighted that we are reacting to his videos.

The key is to get them off script. I can't imagine spewing the same line of bs for 30 years. Seems very redundant.

Simple strategy to "get him off script"........whip out a joint and politely ask he would like to "spark up, too"

Regardless of what someone personally thinks of Steve, his videos are informative from "his" perspective and both "sides" can benefit from them. Heck, just for the entertainment value of them I like to watch, and I never quite understood the personal attacks on him. It's not like he's ripping off the people in the video OR the ones watching them, who seem to love to throw vitriol his way.

Omg.. Where in GA is this?. . I am a new subscriber bc I'm in the market to buy/lease here and I do NOT want to end up in front of this man... Lol.. I don't have enough bearing not to laugh in his face.. After binge watching 6 videos so far, I feel like I will be ready within the nxt month or so or one of those "best times to buy" times

I would have walked out, real fast. I have had a salesman ask me how much my in I was putting down before I even looked at any vehicles. I looked at him and nodded to my wife and walked away.

You should have your out-the-door price and trade-in value agreed to in writing with the salesperson before you even walk into the finance office, right?

Went out looking for a new truck in Santa Cruz California. Found a sales man that sounded just like Mr. Richards. Couldn’t get him to focus on the issues important to me. Had nothing else to do that day so I drug out my visit to that dealership for 5 hours. Once he told me I could not get the truck I wanted for the price I demanded I told him that was fine so let’s go look at a different one. He started the same thing once again over the price of my second choice. Once I told him I really didn’t like the second truck I looked at I suggested we walk out to the lot and see if we could look for my third favorite truck. He caught on that I was jerking him off and things started getting nasty. Told him what I thought of his B.S. and walked. Two days later I stopped back at his dealership to show him the deal I got an a brand new truck from a competitor. If your so proud of yourself Mr. Richards maybe you could disclose the name of the dealership you work at. I’m currently looking for a new truck!

Fairly creepy for him to invite himself over for dinner. He would be one of the last people I'd ever want as a guest in my home.

Who lets a salesman have that level of control? He is able to ramble for minutes at a time without being challenged at all. This guy would get nowhere with me.

I will acknowledge and can appreciate that Steve is very nimble and adept. That client was a lost puppy. Very little pushback except for the trade-in. Steve zeroed in on that and the client followed. Steve was having fun. I have to imagine his contingency was to “surrender” the trade from the equation if it made the client feel like he “won” a battle, and move forward with the car purchase in a dominant victory with no real combat at all.

I am assuming that you do understand that this is role play. All of Steve's videos are.

Fact missed, the $18,000 the Customer wanted, and the (rounding off) $16,000 offered is WHOLESALE price. Retail might be $22,000? Customer prices it at $19,000, and is $3,000 below retail.

They don't state it outright but the 18k is at best the private party value. You touched on my biggest issue with this video. Kevin was so focused on mocking Steve he ended up presenting a flawed analysis that lacks critical thinking. It's a role play, so there isn't as much discussion and back and forth because there are other assumed details the role players know. Here's the easy version: You want 18k because you can sell it for that. We want to give you 16k. Right now, we would sell it for 20k in good condition, but we all know cars depreciate. In 30 days it will be a 19.5k car. In 60 days, 19.25k. Plus everyone wants a discount so I'll have to fight just to get the same 18k you would. Now you can sell your car as is. I cant. The law says I have to do a safety inspection and replace and worn "safety" parts so I'm taking a risk that you need tie rod ends, shocks, brakes, or other things I can't see without throwing it on a lift. I also have to fix the bumper snd detail it because I can't have scratched up dirty cars on the lot or people will think we sell junk here. I have to eat that cost. You have the same problem. You have to sell your car as it depreciates. You list it St that 18k clean private party it better be super clean or you'll be the one trying to fight for that profit. Plus if this is your primary car, you're adding miles the whole time. We're 2k apart, less than that when you consider expenses and the tax break, let's sign now and you can spend that time with your family instead of strangers on Craigslist who want your car for 16k because of the scratched bumper. Of course, it's just as likely the customer's 18k is pulled straight out of their butt or US what they saw a dealer selling a similar car for.
