So Many Switch 2 Questions Still

While Nintendo has finally unveiled the Switch 2, there are so many questions left still to be answered at their upcoming April Direct. Launch games, battery life, new features, price, release date, and so much more. Here's all the biggest questions I have, and what I think, or at least hope, the answer is to many of them.

It’s a shot in the dark but I would LOVE to see Streetpass make a return from the 3DS. Such an underrated feature and it actually gave me a reason to take my 3DS out the house with me, my Switch has largely been kept indoors in the dock or just played on a couch / in bed.

Yes I totally agree with you! The only problem I really ever had with the switch is they never updated the OS to do anything fun, themes specifically. Themes for Switch 2!

@ 5:59 - Nintendo officially released a Joycon- charging station back in October which lit a fire under Switch 2 speculation. I imagine if they do let you connect the old joycons wirelessly they'll probably still sell the old joycons, potentially we could see a Switch rebrand called Switch "1" that's simply coexists with the Switch 2, simply just get to make Sony find another 10 million PS2s. I do hope for some kind of enhancement for Switch 1 games, even if "Dock" mode was used for Switch 2's handheld mode.

​@@sansmojo From 2013 to 2019 the PS2 had sold 148 Million worldwide. Then Sony updated it to 153 Million when the Nintendo DS "outsold it" In 2024, Jim Ryan updated that total to 160 Million, despite the Switch only being 14 Million behind the PS2. It will happen again.

Regarding backwards compatibility, I think games like 'Labo' or 'Ring Fit Adventure' will RUN on the Switch 2, but a notice will pop-up telling you that the game card you just inserted 'might require' you to connect extra or legacy peripherals such as the original Switch Joycons with the IR sensor in order for it to work correctly. After that you just hit 'OK' and the game will run just as it did on the original hardware.

I'd love a New Mario Paint, so I can share my drawings and my animations with my friends. The "C" button might be a "cast" feature instead of a social feature. Some games could require two screens and it'll be great. On the other hand, as a competitive Splatoon player I don't think the "mouse-like" controls or the "cast" feature will be in Splatoon 4. Also, for Splatoon 4 the original Pro Controller will be still enough for playing the game. If there's a social feature like the MiiVerse or the DS pictochat would be very fun for sharing drawing made with the "mouse-like" joycons

I think it will be LCD because since the bezel size is pretty similar as the original Nintendo Switch. I really concern about the magnetic parts of it. Some Macbook users had an issue with Apple's standard Magsafe powercable. Charging was not the problem, the metal chip that attach on the charging port was the problem. I actually removed one from my classmate. I really hope some metal chips won't damage the rail or the new Joy-Con. Since it has a hole on it, I really hope any dust damages the connection pin. Welp! Time will tell!

The "C" is not a button, it's to control the "cursor" in handheld.

My prediction is during the April Direct it will be announced that GameCube games are coming to NSO. However they will be exclusive to the Switch 2. Possibly another pay wall increase but I hope not.

It’s greed at the highest level. Oled screens are better, they are an extremely standard at this point, inexpensive. They are also thinner so you could’ve actually put in better and stronger hardware. Nintendo decided nahhh we’d rather save this for a mid refresh on a device that is 5 years behind in hardware. Like bro I’m not expecting the latest and greatest processor or graphics but they are actively making decision so they can make more and hold back their own eco system

@ it’s not about just beauty. LCD will NEVER get as dark. It strains the eyes when playing in the dark, and again you can’t put as much hardware in a device with an lcd. So the actively made a choice to cut their own foot off and make a cheaper device and change you out the ass for it.

The Wii u gamepad functionality recreation idea was killed by the fact that I don't see a single camera or microphone on the body of the new switch. That's kind of a letdown for me, I feel like a lot of games would have benefited at least from a microphone.

The most important thing to me is enhancements for backwards compatible Switch 1 games! Even if no new games ever came out, I'd still buy a Switch 2 if it could run old games at higher frame rates & resolutions... I got so burnt out on how ugly games looked on every 4k diaplay in my house, along with struggling through such poor performance. I don't believe Nintendo would ever put in the effort MS has with multiple gens of free upgrades to Xbox games, but at least allow the old games to take advantage of the more powerful hardware without dedicated patches (like PS5 Pro).

I think Switch 2 won't have the same issue for a couple of reasons. Playstation 5 even now has a very small exclusive game library, and a big chunk of those are PS VR games that not everyone is interested in. Alot of PS5 games for a long time still came out on PS4, so the reason to upgrade was pretty small for a good while. Nintendo tends to sale well because of their exclusive library, and I doubt most of the games they make outside of maybe a couple at launch will come out for Switch 1 as well. PS5 also had bad stock issues that wasn't helped by scalpers and rumors are that Nintendo held off on the Switch 2 to make sure they had a big stock lined up for launch.
