I was just reminded of an audition I played where the singer brought in an obscure French art song, 11 pages long, single photo-copied sheets, not attached, OUT OF ORDER. Some pages had some of the piano part cut off and there were seven key changes, most right at a page turn. I was trying to figure out how to put the pages on the music desk in order when she glared at me "Start!" I did, and the disaster which ensued did not cause me any loss of sleep.

Two words: Accompanist Binder. Somehow a lost skill. Singers, it's something you should plan out and have for ANY audition, coaching, lesson, competition or concert. If you're totally lost, you can ask your regular accompanist/collaborative pianist what formats are easiest for them. Also, if you make any changes to your music, you have to make sure they've been duplicated in the accompanist's binder. I don't understand why this is so hard to think about. I'm just being a bitter bitchy Betty. :)

Aaaaaalways! Always greet and thank your accompanist. Geez, that’s such a pet peeve of mine. As a singer myself I want to show my best self at auditions and that can only happen when you collaborate with your accompanist.

I'm going on a huuuge audition-thingy-thing tomorrow and I'm literally screaming just after the sickness excuse because I feel f***ed if I just walk into the room and start coughing and don't say anything about it, but I don't want to tell them I'm sick either??? Hahaha. I've had a throat infection for a couple of weeks now and it's getting better but ANYWAYS... hahaha, loved the video tho!

Curious about the toilet paper tip. I thought you were supposed to bring in sheet music taped side by side, accordion style? So the pianist doesn't need to flip pages/flip every page.
@skyelarbloo39796 жыл бұрын
TonyLee id only do that under 5 or 6 pages, otherwise it's more of a hassle than not
@mcwyman79286 жыл бұрын
Use a hole puncher to make it possible for that accordion to go into a binder. That way they can turn the pages OR pull out the accordion if they want. That's what I do, and I've had different audition accompanists that have preferred both methods.

am I still a dick if like, the tempo is marked in both musical terms and an actual number? bc I don't want to act like my accompanist can't read a piece of music but I also don't want them mad bc I didn't tell them how fast.

The toilet paper looks like if someone wanted to have a book, but couldn’t get the book, so they just printed the whole thing out, and then they don’t know what a binder is.

In the skit where you're explaining to the pianist version of yourself about Rubato and Libretto and etc etc, it really confuses me....don't Pianist in audition rooms know all this already? Why does the auditioner have to break it down? Asking in general, I'm curious.
@thirteenfury6 жыл бұрын
Meghan Robertshaw It's not that the auditioner has to break down the tempo for the pianist. The joke is that some people act like they're the only ones who properly understand musical terms and therefore feel the need to explain everything like you're five years old and never sat at a piano before. But there's people like that in every profession, tbh.
