My favourite Stanley Cup Finals I watched , the series looked completely even in every aspect

It really was; even before the Finals began I picked Tampa Bay to beat Calgary but I also anticipated a long and hard-fought series for both teams. And it was. A hotly-contested Cup Final right up until the final buzzer....what a series it was for hockey at the time. :-)

@@ckendall67 Yeah amazing series. I had picked Calgary beating Tampa in 7 in the finals at like the halfway point in the season when the flames weren't even in a playoff spot. I was almost right

This series showed how hockey can be successful in warm climates. The fans in Tampa were insane in that playoff run. Give then a good product to watch, and fans will come. Carolina had an amazing run when they won theirs too.

Mortskcab I'm glad Tampa has a chance to be on top again with talented players like Stamkos, Johnson and Bishop. They're definitely the underdogs tonight against the Rangers. I really wouldn't mind seeing them win their second Stanley this year, but it'd be pretty hard to beat both Rangers and either Anaheim or Chicago in the finals.

lol the Lightning were the second best team in the regular season that year, #1 seed in the East, and the puck didn't cross the line in game 6. The Lightning earned that Stanley Cup.
@ckendall67
@ckendall67 4 жыл бұрын
Exactly; about that 'did the puck go in' moment in Game 6, the play kept going, no one on the Flames ever thought to even ask for a review on the play, basically nobody on the ice raised any concern about whether the puck was in or not, & even if anyone did after the fact, play had already resumed and you can't go back and review once the puck is dropped and play goes on. Too little too late for the Flames, and they still had ample opportunity to close out the series on home ice in Game 6. They didn't and Tampa Bay got an 'extra life' by winning and forcing Game 7 back on home ice. Though the Flames battled them right to the very end, it was destiny for the Lightning to clinch the Cup at home. And they were actually very consistent( save for a bit of a midseason 'dip' in the standings before they recovered soon after )for the balance of the season. They looked like a Cup contender in my eyes months BEFORE they embarked on their playoff run. They were that good of a team and they earned their Cup that spring. :-)

Proud Lightning fan for over 30 years and the puck did clearly cross the line in the game 6 but was deemed a kicking motion so was disallowed ,the most crucial point of all the series was the St.Louis goal in 2nd OT to take it to game 7 in Tampa otherwise it would have been a 4,2 win for the Flames and the Cup would have stayed in Canada for the 1st time since 1993 fortunately it was not meant to be.

Kipper and Iggy destroy a Bertuzziless Canucks. When Yzerman got the puck in the eye, I felt like puking on my valuables. San Jose. If you were an NHL GM today, would you take Kipper or Nabokov? Daryl Sutter's best move as GM in Calgary was lifting Kipper from San Jose. If SJ had Kipper now, the cup would be a lock. Tampa: Gelinas won all four series: 3 for Calgary, one for Future replay technology and her rules. Brad Richards was that good and The Bulin' wall was amazing.

Both teams were solid that year. Honestly I remember following the playoffs intently that year and both teams played like they deserved the cup. As a Flames fan, I too believe that the cup should have gone to them when it comes to a disallowed goal but after that when it comes down to it, Tampa beat Calgary!

Great series, great stanley cup win for the lightning. I am Canadian, and this is why we won't be winning any stanley cups soon...every time a canadian team is in the final, we'll put so much pressure on them to win that they choke in the end horribly. Vancouver fucking riotted just cause they lost the final, wtf is that. I don't really care myself though, i just wanna see good hockey between two teams that slug it out.

I'm not sure what point you tried to make there. Re-read what I wrote. No stoppage, the players didn't think "goal" and the crowd in the arena at the time didn't think "goal". Calgary's "fanbase" didn't challenge the goal. They latched onto a digital exercise the CBC did after the game was done and THAT's what all this moaning is about. And just so we're clear: my team DID get shafted just last season. Game 7 of the ECF and we magically get the first no penalty game, in over 2 decades.

What all you guys who watched this series on CBC in Canada didn't see that ABC showed here in the States during Game 7 was a computer graphic that showed the "phantom goal" from Game 6. They highlighted the puck, the goal line, and the post, then rotated the view directly above the goal line. The puck was three inches off the ice and only half of it was across the goal line; the fact that you can see ice between the puck and the line on a camera shot from almost 35 degrees up isn't a true view.

What is it with Calgary fans? How do you call it a goal when nobody on the ice called it, there was no stoppage in play and even Gelinas went to the bench and gave no indication he thought it was in. No Calgary player on the ice made any motion or said anything immediately after the play to indicate they thought a goal had been scored. It wasn't until CBC does some very slow mo video playback and adds a computer generated re-angling of the view that some Calgary fans think they were robbed.

It's a shame that some people arer still upset about the 'goal' that wasn't in Game 6; OK, maybe it did go in, but why didn't any of the players ask for a video review? It happened so fast nobody really could tell what happened until well after play resumed; by then it was too late to go back & review. Not only that, the Flames had other chances, including OT in Game 6 but couldn't get it done. It was an excellent Cup Final in '04; the Flames played hard but Tampa Bay did deserve the Cup....

Sorry to lump you in. Not all calgary fans are like that anyways...but I can understand the frustration with a non-call on a close play..even one that doesn't get reviewed. But the best anyone can say is that they "think Calgary would have won with another goal in game 6." And that's not good enough. My response is that a team must play above adversity like that specific situation or they're not worth winning.

Tampa earned the Cup fair & square in '04 & I'm fed up with Canadians still squealing about it. Why can't Canadians learn to SHARE anymore when it comes to hockey? Best sport on the planet, but Canada is trying to cling onto it so bad that they don't want anyone outside of Canada to enjoy it either.
