Would it work if you computer only has 4GB Ram or does it require at least 8GB..Ram..?
@KevinStratvert25 күн бұрын
You can use multiple monitors with a computer that has 4GB of RAM, but you might notice some performance issues, especially if you run resource-intensive applications. Ideally, 8GB of RAM or more is recommended for a smoother experience when using multiple monitors. It helps your system handle the extra load better.

This is crazy to say; however, I will. I just realized I've been watching your videos for help since your "how to use your iPhone as a mic" from 8 years ago. I have used some as guides, and here I am landing on another as I'm contemplating adding my daughter's monitor to my computer since she doesn't use it. Look at you with 3.35M subscribers! I can see from back then that you were not so sure what to do with the channel, having some family and tech together. Continue to have the time of your life, Bud.

Hi Kevin, great video. But only one thing: not all usb c ports does support extra monitors. The usb c port must support DisplayPort alt mode or Thunderbolt. Otherwise it will not work. Import thing to know!

In an effort to minimise the number of cables I connect to my laptop (saving on wear and tear) I use the USB-C to a dock which has a number of HDMI, Display ports, audio in/out, and USB-A ports. That way I only need to plug one cable into the dock to get all the peripherals I need via the dock. I also disconnect the laptop display when using the 2 x externals. By the way DisplayFusion is a handy application for dual display.

One hint, if you are stacking your monitors, drag them on top of each other in the System / Display so you can move the mouse up/down between monitors instead of side by side.

Do all these additions slow down the computer? (a layperson asking)
@brendonoleary519Ай бұрын
Not in my experience.
@KevinStratvert25 күн бұрын
If your computer has decent hardware, multiple monitors shouldn’t slow it down much. But if your graphics card or system resources are already stretched thin, you might notice a bit of a slowdown.

The best answer is to get a monitor with a dock built-in to it. Like Dells P2425he then get the non dock version P2425h and link it to the first screen. This way one usb c cable to your laptop and it charges does dual screen, ethernet and usb peripherals. Such a tidy setup especially with wireless kB/mouse in the back of the screen

What if you have two monitors that have a 240 Hz refresh rate? Are you only limited to what the split extender offers, such as one monitor at 60 Hz in the other monitor at only 30 Hz? Do they make split extenders that can handle a much higher refresh rate?

Is there a version of this splitXtend product that uses an hdmi input instead of usb-c? My laptop has a micro hdmi port, but no usb-c ports (but it does have usb 3.0 ports). Isn't hdmi a better connection method for video than usb-c or usb 3?

I couldn't work without multiple monitors. I don't think I could ever go back to one. Of course when out and about, e.g. on a plane, I have to only have one, but then I'm usually just killing time on my tablet or phone. I also use the wireless function to add my phone screen to my display, to save me switching between devices.

@lukeheatley4148Ай бұрын
Sorry but the best solution is to get a monitor with: 1 x DisplayPort version 1.4 (HDCP 1.4) 1 x DisplayPort (Out) with MST (HDCP 1.4) This allows you to take a single cable (minDP to DP) from your laptop to monitor1 and then a second DP cable from monitor1 to the next monitor2. I used a SurfaceBook with 2 monitors like this for years.

This also works well. I believe it's referred to as daisy chaining, but as you mention, your monitor needs to support this (as well as your cable).
