Even without downforce it could still, in theory, affect handling. It could affect the rotational speed, so for example when it wants to swap ends on him, it's less likely. Pay attention to the wing design on his other speed build. Tall wing, no downforce.

One problem I’ve noticed is when the ref reach a certain speed it spin out so since the wing is flat it can either create negative lift or positive lift, in conclusion the front isn’t griping toward the ground and causing the front to be light or less grip then the rear

Try stiffer springs and running higher rake, so the back is higher than the front. This increases the area the air needs to fill effectively sucking the car to the ground with no added drag
@narrowempress1625
@narrowempress1625 2 жыл бұрын
the reason why the car keeps swapping ends because you put silicone earplugs in the diff, which locks it up and you lose all of your rear end traction. if you want traction you need to go for really thin diff and shock oils, like 3k rear, 5k centre, 5k front and you will have plenty of traction.

@kasuraga
@kasuraga 3 жыл бұрын
@@_M_a_r_t_i_n_M Yeah you really can't rely on having just a flat surface if air can go above and below it. The angle of the car is then going to determine if it's making lift or downforce. He at least needs to put some sort of a kick up on the trailing edge to give it enough downforce to keep it stable. Looks like every time it got up around 60mph the rear end wanted to come around like it was on ice.
@Blaquer17
@Blaquer17 3 жыл бұрын
@@kasuraga true, it’s probably making downforce due to attack angle right up until it hits a certain speed, then once the rear is lower than the front the attack angle switches to generating lift and it spins.
@xKevmachinex
@xKevmachinex 3 жыл бұрын
so basically the rear wing is flat sitting still, but I suspect the front lifts while the rear end sinks which would point the rear wing down to the ground slightly creating lift, thus spinning out, the rear seemed like it was a bit soft and low, so he's gonna have to either give that wing some positive angle or raise the rear end up with with some thicker springs/tighter. Either way its a mixture of imbalance in the overall form of the rc, with the larger battery, the foam wheels, the wing and the suspension set up as well as the size of the rc. I also suspect the rears are locked up while the fronts might have a bit of play to them with the silicon plugs so more power is getting sent to rear effectively pushing its own self into a spin.

It may be a bit late, but if you want to use plastic that can be heated and bent, but isn't too brittle, you could try sheets of ABS. I used it quite a bit in custom applications for car audio back in the day. We frequently used the 1/8" and 3/16" sheets. It's pretty tough but a heat gun makes it bendable and it will hold its new shape. You can sand the thicker stuff to a sharp edge if you need to, for aerodynamics.

1.Try to completley lock the diffs up (because when it hits bumps on the surface , one wheel is gonna catch air and will get more power than the others, and when it touches the ground again it will spin faster than the others and will make the car spin) 2. Put harder oil in the shocks (the soft bottoms out and as it hits the floor it will make the car unstable) 3.Put harder springs in it (so when the shocks compress it doesnt take such long time to get to a normal position again) 4.definetley put a wing with some degree on it, the big 200mph goes straight because its heavy and the body has a lot of downforce. but this is a small and light car, so a wing makes a big difference 5. move the shock position to make the shock less straight but the main thing will be the wing. that turning effect was so big, it gotta be the wing

In physics, an object always wants to have the center of weight in front of the center of drag, so if this car is turning round then it may mean the center of weight is in back of the car and somehow the center of drag is at the front. It can also be tire setup, so I think the camber and toe adjustments can be played with.

It’s trying to plane What this means is that it’s creating a cushion of air for the car to glide on. The reason it spins so easily is because when you go in reverse it creates a vacuum that pulls it towards the ground. The way to fix this is create an air escape in the frame. Or lift up the back end. While also making the rear suspension very stiff. With cushiony tires to absorb the bumps.

@businessraptor134

The diffuser doesn't create downforce persay but a vacuum underneath the car. You want the front end low as possible. And you want the diffuser to funnel the air to a more narrow channel at th back end o the car between the rear wheels. That accelerates the air leaving the back of the car and creates the vacuum that holds your car down. I learned all this for actual cars

Hi Keen, I'm pretty sure you made the rear diff too stiff with the silicon ear plug that's why it is swapping ends like an old car with positraction, Also you need to add more rears toe in and front toe in. You will lose a little speed not much but it will hold a straight line and not swap ends. Try running 40k front 20k rear and 50k center diff. Foam tires are really only for prepped surfaces. spray brake cleaner on the foam tires as it will increase traction. Hope this helps. Just some of my personal experience from racing 1/8 scale on road cars. We hit speeds in the 70 mph range on the short-back straightaways. Anyway, you usually figure it out. I hope you get back to the 205 mph car. I miss that build serious and tests. My favorite videos of yours are the wrenching on the bench going out testing changes and your Monster Truck. You're a Legend, buddy.

its spinning because the rear is now heavier, so any left or right momentum spins the car, the rear fin stops the car spinning when it reaches to the front, because of the air flow. regarding the 203hp project, drag cars have a wheelie bar to stop flipping, and bigger rear wheels for more torque. Also would recommend, more foam on the wheels, and smaller rims.

difussing the air around the back of the car is key. what is happening is a low pressure zone behind the rear of the care at speed this then reduces the traction of the rear tires causing them to spin faster and during a moment of traction on a rough surface they spin the care around. you NEED to have zero pressure or some possitive pressure on the rear end. During acceleration keeping the front end down is good which you thought of early on in the first video I believe. The trouble is you need continue thinking of what forces are happening on the care at different speeds : ) your life is amazing and I love you. Please tell me you're not on adderall or some other stimulant, only your life and how you have directed it as the propellant. Thank you for all you content, your editing is fantastic.

You need to expand the chasis to fill the gap between front and back wheels at the sides. You also need to balance weight by setting two batteries, one on each side on top of that expansion, probably outside the body of the car each as they won't fit inside, finally lower suspension is better, see sports cars.

Inspiration taken from Le Mans (the film) attach some bits of string all over the car with some tape, blow air over the car and notice how the string reacts, you want the string to be as calm as possible off the back end of the car. If the string is flapping about like crazy means you’ve got rather dirty air which as there’s next to no weight for traction, could be the source of the instability

The homemade wing has considerably more mass than the stock wing. Since all that mass is behind the rear axle, it acts as a counterweight to the front end. Either go back to the stock wing, or add a proportional amount of weight to the middle/front of the car. All the extra wing weight is also why the back rides low and the suspension seems too soft.

Should lock the front diff and leave the rear open. The car overall doesn't provide enough downforce and with the shape of the rear of the body and the angle of the wing, it might actually be decreasing the rear end downforce. Each wing, canards and the shape of the body need to line up to channel the air and not disrupt the air flow.

It’s not the rear wing The problem is you’ve locked the rear diff and not the front. Lock the front diff and put light oil in the rear diff Stiff front shocks and limit the travel in the rear shocks so the front don’t raise up when the rear squats

Kev, pls add camber to rear wheels. also make sure that the front camber is good and you have down force for the rear. Keep building that monster truck!

maybe also a cender diff would help keeping it straight. as power kicks in the waight should be more on the back wheels and with a center diff the front wheels would just spin a bit faster as the back ones to "pull" it straight. but i dont know if there is something like a center diff for that RC.

Maybe put thinner stuff in the rear diff The back end is driving around the front Thinner stuff in the rear will let the front pull harder and the rear not so much The front end will pull it straight

the flipping problem might be caused by the diff modification, when the differential is this locked up, the vehicle cannot turn, or else it goes straight to slide

front is lifting up, harder rear springs should fix it, or better aero, front weight, could add a front splitter too but be careful to keep the angle flat or slightly down, the harder rear springs will help keep this right
@thetravelbubble

It might be because when the rear squats due to the body's downforce at speed, the rear wing you made will cause lift due to its angle of attack. That little guy was actually on the right track...smart kid!

i personally use these 5200kv 3650 things. they usually explode at topspeed with 4s. DONT REV IT OFF THE GROUND KEV!!! just dont. the rotors explode. i've killed 5 of them already. but the provide good power and work perfectly on 3s.

Ha Kev, I would definitely make a diffuser because with that you create a vacuum at the back of the car. the vacuum sucks the car on the road, I would also not make the suspension too stiff because then the car will bounce and with that you also disrupt a lot of downforce.
@mikaeljauri7594

Your rear wing is probably lifting it up. If you can, also put a front wing there, and get a little bit stiffer springs.
@MooretheBetter51

Stiffen the back with some stiffer springs. Get to a point where if you were to lift the back up and drop it, the suspension hardly compresses without bouncing the car

the rear wing is tipped back making the rear end float, when it swings around and goes in reverse the wing is causing the down force which is why it was so stable in reverse. also the "fast car" has fins vs wing so the back end cant swing side to side
@pdxeagleeye9895

I think you need to make it more heavy. the reason being is because all the speed is giving it lift, and possibly one side has a little more weight, and as it takes drag, it could be wanting to pull to that side. Could be wrong, but maybe not
@masjuggalo
@masjuggalo 3 жыл бұрын
I think you need weight or downforce in the front. I believe the front is lifting or spinning and the locked up rear diff is causing torque steer once the front end loses traction. Maybe a wing off the back of a larger buggy mounted on the front

HDPE is what I would use as the bottom plate, but it would require a stiffener. They use HDPE on Kayaks and coolant bottles, you can plastic weld it with a heat gun and you will be able to shape it however you desire.

so by running toe-out makes the car more responsive and wont to turn in better. but at the same time, it makes the car less stable. so if you go toe in by 2mm or 4mm it should be more stable at speed. by raising the back it will also make it more stable and give the rear more grip. try stiffening the front and then lower the front and it should be better. good luck.

U need taller vertical stabilizers with a wider wheelbase in the back and if you stiffen up the suspension it will resist the down force more and hold its angle

Kev you put a ear plug in the rear diff pretty much locking the rear diff on that little car take that out and use some 10k fluid or something thin so it can work the right way then stop using foams on that little thing and try some street slicks something good but be careful it will grip much better. Try that i bet it works that wing will make no difference its kicking around because its got somuch power to both wheels

Add a little weight in the nose. That's why it keeps flipping around backwards. If you totally balance it it should "Rip" as you say. Cool video!

You need a front splitter so you have downforce in front, because right now, air is getting under the front end and lifting the front end, making it spin.

Also you might wanna put some weight on the car, it's not very heavy if a small boy can take it with single hand. So the gear ratio in front and weight, these come to my mind. Next step what I would do is to leave out front diff all together and go 2wd and big tires rear

Mine sticks to the road hard with the stock spoiler. I think you need limiting screws in the A arms for lower ride and more rear downforce. Also you definitely shouldn't have locked the diffs. Filling them with grease is the way to go. With white lithium grease on all the gears you might gain a few MPH.

So if it drives great in reverse, than spin the rear wing around, then it should drive good fwd. Or flip it upsidedown. Also, the earplug in the rear mite be making it spin to fast and it is overtaking the front. Thanks fpr the great vids!
