When I did the extended ARP studs on my 2017 BRZ I ended up taking the rear emergency brake shoes apart and it was a big pain. Cool that you can do it by pulling the hub out a little bit without disassembling the ebrake
@RealWheelDeal2 жыл бұрын
Instead of an 18x9.5 +45, wouldn't a +40 with a 5MM spacer work better? Might be able to skip the extended studs with that.
@KevinVo2 жыл бұрын
I'd still need to run extended studs. I wouldn't be comfortable running any more than a 3mm spacer on the OEM studs. As for a +40, that would cause more issues with the rear fitment, which is more of a headache to deal with than the front.

Kevin…subscribed and watching your videos, but have a question sir…just ordered the base GR86 for my son, so we can add the wheels and exhaust we like. It will be his daily, no plans to track, so will keep oem suspension. We are trying to find a definitive answer about wheel/tire combinations…what is the max wheel width/tire width with appropriate offset without any conflicts in the f/r wells for factory suspension? Going to 18in wheel, just don’t want to order something that won’t fit…and all the hassles that will present. Really hoped a 245/35 18 on a 18x9 wheel would do the trick, maybe 40-45 offset, can you help please?

The downside with wheel spacers is that (at least in my area) most shops won't reinstall a wheel with a spacer. Makes it difficult for those who don't do their own work.
@KevinVo Жыл бұрын
I've never ran into that situation before so can't comment, but you could just remove the spacers for that short period of time if needed.

Hi Kevin, how wide is enough offset without any modifications?? Or 18x9.5 +45(your offset) + 245 tyres. is it ok???
@dragoontwo2 жыл бұрын
Three things Kevin. Where did you get your torque specs from? The FSM shows different then what you say in the video. I was able to install the 2.5" studs without fully removing the hub bolts on all 4 corners of my BRZ. The overlay that you have for the reverse light bar. Does it fully cover the lens or is it cut to match the opening? It's only 3 body clips to remove the cover and I would prefer the whole lens to be covered.
@KevinVo2 жыл бұрын
I may have been referencing the FSM for the previous gen. I'm surprised they've changed that much with the parts being almost identical. As for the studs, I was installing the 3" studs so those didn't have enough clearance. The overlay for the reverse light bar is larger than the opening. It covers 95% of the lens apart from the "ridged" outline of the lens.

Another excellent tutorial Kevin! This car is coming along so nicely. Also, why do the new stud threads change color after install? Is that deposits from the lug nut threads on the new studs?

It's the coating on the studs coming off due to the friction when threading the lug nuts on and off.

I was under the impression that 7mm was the thickest spacer you could run w/o extended studs??
@KevinVo2 жыл бұрын
If we take some rough estimates, the stud length with the wheel off is ~25mm. The wheel is going to take off another ~8mm so that leaves us with ~17mm of stud length. If you add in 7mm spacer that's ~10mm we're left with. For thread engagement, we want about 1-1.5 times the diameter of the stud which is ~11.8mm. I like to err on the side of caution so I'd like at least 1.5 times that which with a 7mm spacer that would not give us. With a 3mm spacer, we're left with ~14mm which still isn't the 1.5 I shoot for, but at least it's more than 1x the diameter of the stud.

Kevin, I did the arp extended wheel stud install on my 2022 BRZ I did however every steps, after I bring everything back. When I run the car, I'm hearing a grinding & clicking noise coming from the part where I worked on. Tried to diagnose what could cause the noise but do you think that pulling the hub on the rear will damage the CV joint enough to get replaced?
@KevinVo Жыл бұрын
It shouldn't cause any damage at all. I would run through everything again and double check things. Get the car up in the air and spin the wheel to see if you can locate the noise.
