Looks like real plywood, not the pressed sawdust kind they use to build houses with here in the states. Neat video.

Hi Mark. Yes it is real plywood. I always wondered how they made the boats we see and use, now I know. Thanks for watching.

There`s different kind of plywood which I have met while building in the Philippines ( of course somewhere else too) I hope they can afford the MARINE plywood which does resist water much more than normal used for the dry land buildings. Nice looking boats!

Thanks Leo. I am not sure, but I think this is regular plywood. They do have a nice look to them, I agree. Thanks buddy.

@@leolopponen9010 actually it's a marine plywood, fishermen don't use regular plywoods because it doesn't stand the harsh saltwater and weather. Unlike marine plywood that is more resilient.

Interesting look at the boat building. I purchased plans to build a sailboat many years ago. I had the space to build it behind my house but would have never been able to move it out of the yard without a helicopter to lift it out. lol.

Nice to hear from you and thanks for watching and making a comment. Yea getting the boat together is one thing, but trying to get it ti the water is something a little more difficult. I would love to see how they launch that fishing boat really, but I am not there now. Maybe another time I can. Thanks!!

I saw them do it once. They just dig out the sand under the boat, and let the tide come in.

Man that plywood skin looks awfully thin. It would give me more confidence if it had at least a quarter inch of fiberglass overlay on the outside for added abrasion resistance and durability. Alot of the marine grade plywood they sell there are actually just the regular locally manufactured run of the mill plywood. Thanks for sharing

Ajai01niner In that large scale of boat they usually use FUSO engine from a mitsubishi truck. It has a incredible amount of HP. I know this because I am a Filipino and we usually go on island hopping and I take the time on asking about the engines they used.

Did you ask any of the guys there how much to build a Boat? I promise my husband that we'll get a small fishing boat but has sun cover so he can go fishing anytime he wants to. He goes deep sea fishing with his son once in awhile.

Hi Jane. No I didn't ask them as they were not there, but my wife talked to someone and the smaller boats are around 1,000 USD as far as we have been told. Next time we go back I will ask someone and do a video on it. Thans for watching.

I believe the individual who presented this video should have been more knowledgeable about how Bangka's are actually constructed, as I just recently finished the construction of a 9-meter Bangka, which holds between 8- to 10-people and, will be used for commercial and, private fishing on Iligan Bay, here in Northern Mindanao. This was a very long and, arduous task.

I never said I was an expert on these boats. I was just letting people know how they are built and wanted them to see it. If you are an expert then do your own video on it. I am sure people will watch it and leave comments as well. Thank you for watching. I see you have a big following on your page.

I am too old (68) to be doing a video on my Bankga as I wouldn't even know how to make a video - just photographs (which I take a lot of) whenever I do anything major. I was going to provide you with a complete history from start to finish of what it takes to construct a Bangka but, after writing the full length article on your site, I decided otherwise and, copied and, pasted it into a Word Document for me to use at some time later down the road and, then deleted what I was going to provide to you. Additionally, I didn't say anything derogatory about you NOT being an expert. Unsure where you got that idea. If I had, I would have provided even more in my response. By the way, in regards to "how a bangka is launched", it's usually done by placing large heavy duty hard wood (Tugas or Nara) rollers under the Bangka and, rolling it either up out of the sea or, down into the sea. It takes 6- to 8-men to launch my Bangka. I have seen commercial bankgas, that are launched with as few as 30+ people. I recently was thinking of a less strenuous way to launch my bangka and, that would be using a Winch mounted on a rebar reinforced concrete post just beyond the concrete pad where my Bangka currently rests when not in use. I thought of using a very long cable to be able to haul the Banka up the 33-degree incline but, read an article about how cables have a tendency to snap after being exposed to Salty Air (like where we reside). So, I then thought of using a Synthetic Rope as an option but, I don't want to use something that might snap when going up or down from the concrete pad, thus injuring a bunch of people in the process. So, I guess we'll stick to the original plan. Hope to see you do more videos and, do you reside here in the Philippines?

Hi Paul. Thanks for your response.I appreciate the info that you did send about launching the boats. Very informative. I never seen it done before. Sounds interesting to see in person. We got off on the wrong foot my friend. I apologize to you. We use to reside in the Philippines but lack of money brought us back to America to work... I will post more videos later. Thanks again my friend. By the way Where are you from?

Well, I am originally from Buffalo, NY and, when I retired from the Air Force at Edwards AFB, my wife and I decided that we had enough snow in our lives (from being stationed in South Korea on numerous tours of duty and, in Northern Japan to last a life time) and, thus we retired to Sacramento, CA with the intention of moving back to Seoul, S. Korea to retire when our careers were finished. Unfortunately for me, I lost my S. Korean-America Spouse to Stage 4-Ovarian Cancer in 2006 (she was an RN Operating Room Surgical Nurse) and, the Lord blessed me with a Philippine-American Lady (also widowed) and, born in the same year as my deceased spouse with numerous similarities. After a period of time, we decided to retire back to the Philippines, where we now reside in Clarin (North of Ozamiz City), Misamis Occidental, Philippines. We are just a short 10-minute walk from Iligan Bay at the end of our street. We are here until we die and, have no intentions of returning back to the U.S. unless either of my two adult-children have an emergency medical condition that might arise, calling for us to return back to the U.S. to be with them. Been living in the Philippines since May 2014 and, I love it. Not hard to getting used to residing overseas either (taking into consideration that I spent almost my entire Air Force career overseas in the Far East). P.S. Apology accepted.
