Hi, I've been to 5 different Home Depots and they all tell me that they can't cut the keys... that only the agency does it or the famous locksmith 🤦🏻♂️.. so I just brought the fob keys for nothing.. thank you for ur advice video..

I’m sorry to hear they wouldn’t cut it for you. Did they have the same Hillman machine that was in my video? The associate that helped me was very skeptical that it would even work and warned me that it could ruin the key. After I assured him I was ok if it didn’t work, he had to “trick” the machine to cutting it by scanning the barcode on one of their #28 blanks and using the “B” slot on the machine (he did have to hold it in the whole time for the machine to cut it). So, their machine WILL cut it, it just may take the right associate and possibly a little coaching. An older, more basic key cutting machine will also work, but that would depend on if you have a local hardware store that has a machine like that.

I'm going to correct what I said, I managed to make the keys and all the steps you mentioned and they work wonderfully, thank you so much for sharing it.

Thank you so much for posting this video I’ve been wanting to do this for so long but didn’t know if it was possible and you answered all my questions.

You’re welcome! It’s been close to a year now and mine is still working great. So much better than the key and fob separate.

What I am looking in a good key fob is the distance it can receive the information what’s the range on the key fob is it good
@FixandMaintain12 күн бұрын
I haven’t done any scientific testing, but I’d say it’s average for an aftermarket fob. OEM fobs seem to have the best range and this can’t go quite as far as the original.

Does it work for a 2008 chevy silverado? I don't have a remote for the truck. I just have a chevy key.

Getting a fob for you should be even easier than this. If you have a column shifter, this switchblade style of key probably won’t work, but you can get just a basic fob like this: amzn.to/3CZn7qN. Double check to make sure that specific fob is compatible with your truck. Then, I believe you should have a “Relearn Remote Key” option on the DIC by pressing the Vehicle Information button several times. Once you activate that mode, just press the lock & unlock buttons on the new remote to pair it!

Is there a way where I can just get the programmer and not the fob, I already have 2 fobs I bought
@FixandMaintain3 ай бұрын
Not that I’m aware of, but I’m not sure why they wouldn’t sell it separately. I hate that Chevy removed the fob program feature from the menu. With older models, it was a setting in the info center to learn new remotes.

FYI this won’t work with column shifters. The key fob is too long which contacts the shifter when in drive.

Thanks, good to know! I don’t have one with a column shifter, so I didn’t realize that would be an issue.

That’s exactly what I was worried about. It didn’t look like there was much space. Thanks for letting us know.

Will this work on my 2014 Tahoe?
@FixandMaintain Жыл бұрын
I can’t say for sure that it will, but according to Amazon’s compatibility list, it should. Just double check the number on your current key fob before ordering to make sure it matches.

Anyone have luck with a 2015 Traverse?
@FixandMaintain9 ай бұрын
The vehicle I was using for the demonstration on was a 2012 Traverse. The 2015 should be the same procedure.
