I'm so happy!! ^^ I won this board game off of eBay for just around 20 dollars, and another 20 dollars to ship it from the UK to me in Sweden, I just got it today... and it is 100% complete. :D Everything is there and the game itself is not worn at all. Its the british version, but its basically the same as the american version, only its published by Waddington's instead of Golden, so it has a different cover-art, but that's about it. I'm so excited and looking forward to play this with my friends. :D Thanks to you, James, this is everything I have ever wanted in a good adventure board game since I was a kid. ^^

You know I own a ton of newer board games like the ones mentioned below, and I'm going to say this much- This game STILL kicks just as much ass today, as it did when it came out. This game, along with others like The Omega Virus(Played Space Alert? Same level of chaotic fun to be found here), were and are a ton of fun to play. They aren't anywhere near as complex as a game like, say Ghost Stories or Merchant of Venus, but are they just as fun? Hell yes.

I happen to own the game. You have 3 moves to get to safety before the board opens up. If you get hit, you have 3 turns to roll a 1 or an 8 or else you lose all your treasure. This would be an interesting feature, except that players can step off the whirlpool and then just step back on again. So you need to set ground rules with other players or else you just have one asshole standing by the whirlpool waiting to fuck with everyone else. And then that becomes the whole game.

Alpha King I managed to buy it from ebay recently, cost me $35. It is in pretty good shape, only bad thing is missing three warriors, but everything else is there, so it is playable. If you really want to play the game I recommend to buy one 90% to 95% complete, it costs a lot less and is equally enjoyable (unless you are a board game collector).

NicDoesDumbThings Board games are being made and their better than ever. King of Tokyo, Dominion, Catan (+ expansions), Ticket to Ride, Munchkin, Pandemic, Forbidden Island, Bohnanza and SmallWorld are just some of my favourites. But I guess the game to come closest to Key to the Kingdom would be Talisman, it is made of pure awesome. I wonder why James does not review any more more modern games, everybody knows that the the best board games came in the 70's and the "right now"-ies. He only reviews the board games that came in between, during the board game drought...

***** Guess it's just his preferred era. I know any night having my mates round wouldn't be complete without at least one board/card game being involved. Catan, Munchkin, Spacehulk, Talisman are some of my faves. I like Runebound and Bloodbowl too but they do take a long time leaving other players out of action for a while. Well I'm just glad people still love their good old board/card games is all.

Wow, this looks like a rather dynamic and well-conceived board game. Wish I had it when I was kid.

This has me thinking about Dungeon! from TSR. Memory has faded too much to remember much about it. All of these vague memories from 30+ years ago get frustrating.

You know, there is another great game that I found out earlier this year is worth hundreds now due to how rare it is and how good of a board game it is. I happen to have it, as it was given to me as a birthday or Christmas gift when I was younger (I just remember that it was a gift). Back then, it was just a board game. It's called Star Wars Epic Duels, and it's basically like one big turn-based battle similar to those seen in Advanced Wars or Final Fantasy Tactics Advance.

Really loved this game as a kid, myself and my two brothers would play it for ages! My favorite monster card was always this one with the description of 'You can't kill this monster, you're dead'... Well, it didn't read like that 100% but that's basically it and nothing would be funnier than my brothers going against that monster and flipping the board game into the air! I can't remember the monsters name though..

I really like how the world expands, I think more board games need to include that.

One question though, for anyone familiar with the rules of this game..... please tell me.. the treasure cards; are you supposed show what treasures you have gained, or are they supposed to remain secret to anyone but the one who gets it? I ask only because the rulebook doesn't state anything in particular about that, except that it vaguely hints in the description about things like "..take the corresponding treasure card-holder, SECRETELY look at the treasure you have won and keep it safely by you in its holder", which would imply that you are not supposed to reveal it to anyone else. It also says that when you find the Key to the Kingdom, it is "time for you to DECIDE wether or not to head for the exit" which would indicate the same conclusion, that anyone who has the key can just sneak away and hope to avoid suspicions so as not to be robbed of his/her key and treasure. However, in this video, James states that when the key has been found, "everyone is against you". How can they actively be that if you haven't actually shown the key to the other players? Sure, it might just be a figure of speach, that your foes indeed are against you, even though they don't know you if you have the key or not. But the rulebook doesn't say. I also find it pretty illogical; I mean, if its supposed to be a guessing game about who has what, then the pulse-pounding race to the finish won't exactly play out the way you'd expect; without people knowing who has the key.. there will be no real purpose, just random looting. Why the rulebook would omit something like this is very strange to me... and btw, it also forgot to mention the 6 Deep Magic cards in the content section. Anyway.. does anyone know about this?
