What makes key and peele brilliant is 1) Their depth of understanding of human behavior 2) The subtleties they capture with their incredible acting, both of them. 3) Their plain wackiness - they are just funny! We all feel the pull of deferring to the social group, especially as young people. It can be so painful that it causes us to renounce who we really are, and even to police others who dare to show some sincere authenticity and originality, embarrasing them into falling in line. The inner emptiness and loneliness lurking behind this behavior is captured in this skit more clearly than in a thousand psychology textbooks. Real genius!

This is honestly one of the most important sketches they’ve ever done. People are made to feel crazy because they have opinions that they stand behind strongly. The person that agrees with everything people say has no true sense of who they really are, therefore making them deeply insecure, and ultimately makes them feel like they need to make other people feel the same way just to feel some semblance of security in social situations. It’s so toxic.
