With regards to "I don't know why I would want Bluetooth" (12:58) - I frequently switch between my work computer and my gaming computer, both of which are tucked away making swapping cables quite cumbersome. Having both a wireless keyboard and mouse connected to both PCs with Bluetooth and just pressing a button on each to switch between them makes everything so much easier. It also makes my desk setup exceptionally clean with no cables. I also have the option to connect the keyboard to the gaming PC with a cable to eliminate the 90 Hz polling rate and still have the Bluetooth functionality for my work PC.

I have a q1 and a q6. The q1 has no issues on any of my computers using VIA. However the q6 will not work with VIA on three of my computers. Keychron told me that when the q6 is officially VIA supported then it should work with via without any issues. I was going to keep it a secret, the zoom 65 has wireless capabilities, and there's going to be a version two coming out on the 26th of this month.

The Q1 is nice, but the V1 is better. The Q series is thick and heavy and cold and relatively steep, while the V series is lighter, thinner, flatter, and doesn't feel cold to the touch. It's also nice that V costs half as much. Regardless, I hope Keychron will figure out how to do dongle wireless on QMK boards soon, because it's a lot more convenient than bluetooth. (with a dongle, reconnecting is faster and doesn't require any host-side handshaking)

This keyboard is really tempting me to needlessly upgrade my current wireless 75% keyboard just for the build quality and VIA/GMK compatibility... But not having a 2.4GHz connectivity option is really giving me pause for some reason. It sure is a nice board regardless, though!

Here’s my use case for Bluetooth on a non-portable keyboard: I usually have a work laptop and a personal phone/tablet. Bluetooth makes it easy to switch between them. If I’m hopping on and off VPNs they might not even think they’re on the same network or the company might have locked down so I can’t connect the devices to each other. So this is a huge feature for me. I’m a little sad I already spent my remote office stipend on the Jris 65 (also a customizable wireless, but yet to ship), but that company just laid me off so I guess it’s good I didn’t wait. 😅

Wireless is nice but I don't care much for bluetooth. I have it with my Logitech MX Keys. But when I turn on my laptop and start typing, the first few keystrokes won't be registered. It's only after a few seconds that they will. Secondly, using BT means I have to choose which laptop to connect to from the keyboard. I'd rather have it connected to a USB hub (built in to a monitor for example) so that simply plugging in any laptop to that monitor will make the keyboard work for that laptop (think work/private laptops). Honestly, the Logitech dongle is pretty good. It's an RF dongle that plugs into a USB port, and the keyboard connects to that dongle. So you get wireless without the drawbacks. But to each their own I guess. As for this keyboard, I wanted to see one thing improved over the Q1: 4 buttons along the right side, AND the knob. Then at least you have both Home/End and PgUp/PgDn. But it's still the same 3 buttons. A missed opportunity AFAIC.

Thank you for comparing the keycaps with MT3. MT3 keycaps will run $100, and the KSA keycaps with the Q1 Pro are spec'd at 1.6mm so one of the thickest out there. I already have a GMMK Pro, but I wanna get the Q1 Pro :-) haha.
My big problem with the Q1 V2 (non pro) was that my space bar had hideous rattle out of the box - it had either no lube on it or extremely little. The other stabilized keys were also pretty poor with audible rattle and when I took the board apart I found some weren’t even screwed in all the way. For a board at this price point that is very disappointing and really shouldn’t happen imo. In the end I ended up doing total disassembly, cleaning, the relubing the stabs with Kyrtox G2050 + doing the force break mod + adding in the sticky foam strips that go onto the metal plate under the space bar (as by default they don’t put all of these in for … some reason). It helped, but I’m still not really happy with all the stabilized keys. I even attempted the Holee mod but had a very tough time getting the cloth bandaid strips to adhere to the stems even after washing and scrubbing off the lube so I gave up on that. Good keyboard overall, but they seriously need to make sure they correctly lube the stabs and fully screw in the stabilizers to the board. My unit was so bad on those fronts that I genuinely wonder if they have been sending reviewers specially inspected units or something. I see no reason they couldn’t do these basic things in house (e.g. force break mod + adding in the foam sticky strips to the plate under the space bar + using a high quality lubricant in enough volume on the stabs, etc). Side note I also wish they would’ve rounded off the space bars harsh/sharp raised edge and my thumb sits on it all the time. I ended up flipping it but it’s not really a perfect solution imo.
@cityoflights3808 Жыл бұрын
The stabilizers are sub par and assembled without much quality control. Their in house switches are cheap for a reason and their keycaps belong on a $50 board not a $200 one. Do yourself a favor and buy a real set of keycaps someplace else. Like an actual mt3 set or even a decent cherry pbt set from Akko.
@BlindBison Жыл бұрын
@@cityoflights3808 Are you able to recommend a better prebuilt? For me I’m willing spend a lot if it means getting a great product out of the box. Sadly the Q1 V2 let me down hard mainly because the stabilizers are truly awful. The rattle horrendous.

Q1 pro's features are great for the practicality. QMK/Via software compatibile meaning you can easily reprogram your keys to whatever you would like (both wired and bluetooth!!). There is macos compatibility too which is extremely rare in the mechanical keyboard settings for some odd reason. Then lastly, there is bluetooth 5.1!!! These three features are super big in a practical standpoint. The only think I should be concerned is the pricing. Honestly an aluminum board isn't needed because its more targeted to the luxury part of the hobby. So if keychron releases a V1 pro, thats where the ideal practical board would be. Then for those who are in the mechanical keyboard hobby, I think if keychron target's their case ping problem and offer different plate composition. Then the board would definitley compete against all of the luxurious $400 to $800 boards that you would see deep in the hobby.

I am in one of the country's in the world that uses azerty, is this adjustable through the software? Or can you recommend another mechanical keyboard that I can easily adjust to azerty through the software.
